Adopted at an early age, Atlanta Hart remembers very little about her birth mother who died in a car accident when she was only two. Raised by her father’s family, she has little need to hunt for information on a woman she never knew. That is, until she turns thirteen and begins to have powers she can’t explain. However, once she begins to dig, Atlanta can find nothing about her biological mother. As if the woman were a ghost.

With the trail cold, Atlanta gives up hope of ever knowing the maternal side of her family or finding an explanation for her unique gifts. That is until she meets Roman, a man with similar powers to her own. After informing her that she’s a lost witch from a unique bloodline, his connections in the Clandestine World help Atlanta hunt for her mother’s family again. This time she finds a lead and travels from Boston to South Carolina to learn all she can about the Setti family and the curse that surrounds them.

Not all legacies should be dug up.

The Setti family has spilled blood in the past.

Atlanta or her friends could be next.

"Windfire" is book one in Tamsin L. Silver's "Windfire" series. It was such a great read with awesome characters. I enjoyed Atlanta and her friends Gray and Jensin. Atlanta is figuring out that she is different and is trying to figure out who she is. Her parents died when she was little, so she doesn't really have anyone to ask. She runs into some people while at the bar she hangs out at, and they inform her a little about who they think she is. She then goes to search for some answers. If you don't like cliffhangers, this is not the book for you. I will definitely read on in the series because I need to know what happens next. This is my first book by Tamsin, and I really enjoyed the writing style.

I met Tamsin Silver at Dragon Con two years ago. (Note to publishers - being at events like that really does work, I never would have picked up the book otherwise.) I really liked her so I bought the two first books of this series. It took me a while to read it. And then reading turned into skimming just so I could get to the end.

There is the skeleton of a great story here. Some of the characters are well thought out and engaging.

But most of the book is an information dump. Characters aren't allowed to learn things by experience. Someone comes along to tell them EVERYTHING. There is no real discovery in the novel. In between information dumps are overly dramatic, over the top, life changing scenes. A few are so detailed that I got bored midway through. Others are so short that they seem fabricated by the characters. Let's have a fight so we can make up. It will last four paragraphs. Then we can dump more information.

Like I said, I love some of the characters. Roman and Phoenix are great. There's a lot of depth to them. There's still enough mystery to the character that I want to learn more. Sean is also great, but his whole background is an information dump so it feels like there's nothing left to discover. Ironically, the protagonist of this book is the least interesting and most inconsistent character of the whole book. She doesn't have real life. She moves through life, letting people tell her all about her status in the world, and takes it all in stride with minimal questions.

Give me some mystery. Take some time telling the story.

Atlanta has a sense that she is different than her friends but is keeping it under wraps. It isn’t until they meet Roman in a club that things start to fall into place for her. Atlanta learns that she is a rare wind witch and the fact that her powers have evolved means the prophecy is coming to light. Watching Atlanta deal with her unfolding powers and the knowledge of who she is interesting. I like that she sees the bigger picture and isn’t necessarily swayed by those around her. Looking forward to seeing her story unfold in the next book.

Windfire is the first book I’ve read by Tamsin Silver and now I want to read the rest of this series. #toomanybooksnotenoughtime 😊

Atlanta doesn’t know what she is but she knows she’s different. I became so engrossed in this story that I couldn’t put it down. This isn’t my normal kind of book to read but I read it for a reading challenge and I’m glad that I did. I enjoyed the world-building and all of the very interesting secondary characters. Vampires, witches and werewolves, oh my!

This book is similar to every other " fantasy " " paranormal " " relatively " dark " book in the shelf. Although this book was interesting, for the most part it drags and seams to try too hard if not a bit rushed, its almost like a gothic industrial version of paranormal books. Personally I was a bit bored with reading some of the chapters, it seamed like Buffy The Vampire Slayer in a book.

The book really needs an editor/proofreader. I know this book is part 1 in a trilogy, but I think in most trilogies, each book is also a self contained story. I had a difficult time figuring out where the climax was. The story is however cohesive and I will be looking forward to reading parts 2 and 3. It's very much your "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"/Laurell K. Hamilton book.
