This gorgeous, full-color book introduces readers to the histories, locations, and personal lives of sixteen extraordinary people who have impacted the world and changed the author's life.
John R. W. Stott is known worldwide as a preacher, evangelist, and communicator of Scripture. For many years he served as rector of All Souls Church in London, where he carried out an effective urban pastoral ministry. A leader among evangelicals in Britain, the United States and around the world, Stott was a principal framer of the landmark Lausanne Covenant (1974). His many books, including Why I Am a Christian and The Cross of Christ, have sold millions of copies around the world and in dozens of languages. Whether in the West or in the Two-Thirds World, a hallmark of Stott's ministry has been expository preaching that addresses the hearts and minds of contemporary men and women. Stott was honored by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World."
I enjoyed reading this book after reading the biography of the author. It has beautiful pictures which illustrate the people and places he describes. It brought to life much of what I'd read in the previous book.
John Stott was a avid bird-watcher - mostly of birds I've never seen. I enjoy seeing the different birds of the world - and praising the Creator with John!
This is a gentle, accessible and generous book. John Stott writes warmly if a selection of people whose histories and views have been influential on him. He cannot resist references to his beloved birds! It was refreshing to see such godly and biblically based man write so warmly of Gandhi and Darwin. Many Christian writers would not have had the same generosity of spirit.
A John Stott coffee table book? I think he just wanted to indulge his photography hobby and tell some stories. Pretty light, but I enjoyed the chapters on Hudson Taylor and Paul White among others. Not a bad way to spend of a couple of hours.
