Finished! And I have to say, I had to force myself to not abandon it. The blurb really sounded interesting, so I was looking forward to reading it, sadly it didn't measure up to my expectations. I was puzzled when Percy, 'boss' of the company, acted like a 15year old with jumping up and down in front of his computer after receiving answering mail from a new contact, Max. Then the story flowed along with all the thoughts of Percy regarding Max and with his infatuation and on the other hand his anxiety to suddenly being outed as gay. The whole development left me rather impatient and not really involved. Then there was a turn near the end which for me was totally unnecessary. I had the feeling, it was just added because some drama was missing. Sorry, nope, for me the book would have been fine with a nice HFN/HEA after meeting for the first time in RL. The added chapters didn't relate to previous two thirds of the story.

Summary :

Percy Giannopoulos is a successful young businessman and the head of his own company. He’s looking to expand his business and his influence but has one huge fear. There is one secret that he has kept hidden that he believes could ruin his career. Percy is gay. Keeping his private life private has been a main focus of Percy’s life, so much so that he goes on far-away vacations for anonymous hook-ups. Little does he know that one of those hookups will come back to bite him in the ass. Back at home Percy leads a lonely life. He turns to the internet to find someone he can call a friend, who won’t care that he’s gay. Turning to the online world, Percy finds Max, and then immediately sets up strict rules so that Max never finds out who Percy might be for real. Only Percy is developing feelings for Max and doesn’t know if he can continue on just meeting Max in the chat room. Not only that, Percy literally ‘ran into’ a gorgeous man at the coffee shop the other day that he can’t get out of his mind either. So who will it be? Max, the funny, open, confident, friend Percy’s met online and who’s beginning to turn into someone much more. Or will it be “Mr. Too-Close?” Who Percy has tried running into again, but always seems to just keep missing.


Review :

Mr. Anonymous is told in third person limited omniscient pov. Or that’s what it seems like to me. I will tell you right off the bat that I do not like this type of pov at all. I’ve read other books in this style and they’ve always left me feeling distant from the characters. I don’t feel invested in them as people. That is exactly what happened in this story. The other problem with this type of pov is that I continually got the impression that the author was reading a book to little children as they all sat in a circle at her feet. It was an odd contradiction in the imagery because of the subject matter of the story. The narration had a child-like voice to it, almost sing-song in the same way that a parent would read a story to a child. Sometimes it even felt as if the story was being read as a fable because of the narration style.

At only one hundred pages on my NOOK, the story was a super quick read. One of the other things that made the book easy and comfortable to read was the font style chosen. I don’t know the different style of fonts very well, but I think the one chosen for this story was one of the easiest styles on the eyes I’ve read. I didn’t find many grammatical errors in the book which also made the book pleasant to read.

I like the cover of the book. The image of a man looking out the window fit the image of a lonely Percy in his corporate world. It's a good choice. I think the only thing I would change would be the font style and the color. They don't strike me as quite right.

The characters weren’t very deeply defined nor was there any character growth. There were many instances of Percy acting quite similar to a child, and with the type of narration of the story I didn’t think it was appropriate for an M/M book that contained sex. It was too odd. I liked Max in that he was a more interesting character because he came across as mature and confident.

The story mostly centered on Percy’s interaction with Max in the chat room and Percy’s desires to go home so he could get online to chat. The angst level was pretty low to non-existent. The event that forces Percy to come ‘out,’ is solved way too simply and quickly at the end of the book in only a few pages.

I’d say that Mr. Anonymous is an OK read. Because it was told in third person limited omniscient pov it affected my abilities to relate to the characters. Also the sing-song way the story was narrated made it read as too childish and I didn’t care for that either. The length of the story didn’t allow for any character development or for really getting into some deep scenes. The climax was way too easily resolved. In the end I give this book 2.5 stars. Some people will probably enjoy it because it’s a very fast read and they won’t have to think when reading it. But I prefer more substance to my stories and with characters I can relate to and feel for.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It was cute, fun, sexy, and had its fair share of unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing. I'll admit, I even gasped once or twice!
