On the verge of her twentieth birthday, Vivien’s worries are those of a typical young woman: doing well in college, gaining more independence, and maybe managing to show Brad, her classmate and sometimes jogging partner, that she wouldn’t mind taking their burgeoning relationship to a different level.

Everything changes in the blink of an eye. Vivien stumbles into a knife fight, watches a man die in front of her, and soon listens, stunned, as Brad and his brother Aedan tell her a story of magic, vampires and a murderous ruler intent on killing a princess in hiding – a tale in which she is the princess and heir to a realm she didn’t know existed.

Vivien’s first instinct is to refuse to believe this incredible tale, even if it comes from a man she is attracted to. But when her self-proclaimed bodyguards use magic to take her to a different world, the edges of reality start blurring and Vivien has to figure out who she truly is.

Kallysten is a writer of romance novels and short stories, most of them with paranormal elements.

Her first eBooks were published by Linden Bay Romance in 2005. The defunct Venus Press subsequently published a few of her short stories. Because so many of her stories are linked as series and part of the same universe, she decided it would make sense to have them all in the same place, which is why she self-published, first with the co-op Alinar Publishing and now on her own. When she sees calls for submissions that speak to her muse, she sometimes tries for them, and was published this way by Samhain and Torquere.

How this story came to be...

The very first incarnation of Bodyguards came from an idea I had a few years ago while reading a ‘special calls’ page from a publishing company – I can’t remember which one, but I do remember they offered a monthly subscription, in which the subscribers received one chapter from a few serials every month. They mentioned were-creatures in the call for submission, and I immediately started thinking of werewolves, which I had never written. What if the heroine was a werewolf, instead of the hero? Of course, I couldn’t let go of my vampires, so the hero would have fangs. The call for submission also asked authors to push the sensuality a little higher. Fine, then. Two vampire heroes. And to make it a little spicier, they’d be brothers, and they'd both fall for the daughter of their employer, a werewolf king, after they had to run with her when the king was attacked by enemies intent on destroying his bloodline.

With that initial idea, I started planning out the chapters and developing my submission outline…and then the publishing company discontinued their monthly subscription feature. I was so annoyed, I set what I had started aside and focused on other projects.

Fast forward to 2012. When Whitney Houston passed away, The Bodyguard started popping up on TV channels. It had been a favorite of mine back in my teen years. It made me think again of that file I hadn’t looked at in a long time, titled ‘Bodyguards,’ with the first outline of the story I had abandoned. I opened it, just to see... and immediately, it started tickling my muse again. The werewolves would have to go, I decided, because I’ve found out since that first outline that I don’t enjoy writing shifters all that much. So what could I do with my heroine if she wasn’t a shifter? Magic, of course! As for the heroes… I liked the idea of brothers fighting side by side to protect the heroine, but maybe they didn’t need to both be vampires. One of them could be a magic user instead, and teach the heroine about her power…and about a lot more than that.

I started jotting down an outline, thinking I had enough material for a short story or novella, and maybe two or three sequels; I ended up with a full novel, and the bare bones for a series that might end up being 7 or 8 stories. All that from a shelved idea that popped back to the forefront of my mind with an old movie...

What if one day, shortly before you turned 20 you were suddenly thrust into an alternate universe, told you were heir to the throne, and that people wanted to kill you? That is exactly what happens to Vivien, and the resulting story shows us Vivien’s journey and her struggle to understand all of these new changes.

I love the way this author creates a character; providing depth and a sense of the struggles that are detailed with heart and well described emotions and events. Worlds are created with enough similarities to be familiar and yet different, and the fantastical pieces are defined with a majesty that brings forth a vivid picture to the reader.

While this is the first in this series – there is some unfinished business that leaves you guessing, and there are still the characters of the bodyguards, twin brothers Aeden and Bradan that have not been as fully explored as Vivien would: I can only assume that we will find they develop more fully as the story progresses. A superb lead in for a series and it leaves me wanting to read more for the conclusion of this series.

I was provided the eBook ARC by the author for the FMB Blog Tour. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

My opinion:
While I wanted to read this book I’m still agreeably surprised to see how much I loved it and how I want more something I should have thought since it’s written by Kallysten and that I’m so easily swept into her story thanks to her clear captivating writing style.

With the QuickSilver codex we are immersed in a sort of parallel universe where magic users (called “channelers”) live side by side with vampires and elves will be present too later… As her habit, Kallysten built a complex but enchanting universe that we discover along the heroine, in this case Vivien.
Vivien is a princess from that world called “ Foh’Ran” however since little she was raised in our world and forgot all about her origin….when her twentieth birthday approaches people are sent to kill her and the boy she had a crush on reveals himself to be is bodyguard sent with her to protect her.

Brad aka Bradan grew on earth to protect her like he swore to do…..as a child him and his twin Aedan took a oath to protect her by all costs…and since then both did it. Bradan living on earth started to have feeling for Vivien while Aedan left on Foh’Ran was alone… worse on Foh’ran time isn’t the same than on earth so wghat was days for Bradan was weeks or months for Aedan….while we learn about their past I could only feel draw to Aedan because he is the one who sacrified the most in my opinion and sadly he is suffering from it while Vivien reject his sacrifice and his helps. She is quite accustomed to Brad but Aedan is unknown for her and thus she is acting rudely with him and I wanted to slap her from time to time..
Oh it’s not I don’t like Vivien, I mean with everything happening to her she is adjusting quite well but sadly she was a little focusing to much on herself in my opinion… she is judging with searching for answers first and how she acting with Aedan wasn’t fair…. He protected her for years, he did things for her he never thought he would, he sacrificed his channelling ( kind of magic even if he would hate that word) for her and at best she is ignoring him….She is acting like a child when they wanted her to be a queen but she has first a lot to learn.

Kallysten is also a master at slipping tips or doubts from time to time and thus we are after this book wondering what the supposed king is accusing the late Queen of…now his action don’t make me doubt he is a bad man….he is cruel, arrogant and a killer for sure but his alleged accusations do me make wonder what he has under his sleeve and how Kallysten will certainly surprise us.

There were a lot of moments filled of emotion: when the brothers reconnect with each other, Annabel return and what to say about the first attempt at channelling from Vivien. Brad is really in love with her but put his duty first a long time while Aedan is ready to be left behind even if it means his death…the ending is a cliffhanger and I hate those with passion but to be honest even without it if I had the next book ready I would just read it without waiting more.

If you want a good paranormal romance with parallel universe, vampires and magic this one is for you

Review of Bodyguards by Kallysten
5 Stars
Reviewed for Full Moon Bites Blog Tours for Nov. 10

A rapid-paced, smooth, vividly imaged paranormal story with good characterizations and a twist on the conventional “Other Side”-is-Fae fantasy approach. There is an alternate world here, and it is one in which our protagonist Vivien experienced her unremembered childhood, but Virginia, it isn’t Fae. It’s vampiric, and the guards are hot and sexy. Vivien is an unexpected princess-unexpected to her, but we the readers could have guessed, because this chick is “entitled.” She gets irritated with her loving aunt who raised her, teed-off because a cute guy won’t date her (he turns out to be a Bodyguard and bound to her by the Quicksilver Code), is saved from kidnap and possible death by another hot guy, and then gets mad about that. Yes, “entitled.”
Luckily, Cute Guy #1 (even though he won’t date her) does manage to point her onto the right track.
For fans of Kallysten, and those who aren’t yet but will be, this is a great choice. Don’t miss it.

Coming close to her twentieth birthday, all that Vivien wants is probably excel at school and go on a date with Brad, a cute guy she got used to go running with. But finally getting to know him is certainly not what she expected, and her world literally turns upside down. Discovering the existence of the Quickening, a magic of sorts that can be chanelled, the existence of mythical creatures such as vampires, or even the existence of another realm that hides a legacy of hers endangering her life... that is definitely not what she imagined. And the care of her twin bodyguards could be definitely infuriating for a young woman that grew up in the modern world.
I really enjoyed this YA fantasy. The heroine is feisty girl with a temper similar to mine, and I was able to connect with her very quickly. The twin brothers' characters are also calling to me, although each one in a different way. The magic Vivien and Brad are able to wield is beautiful and enchanting, and seeing the power of a thought in colorful action is an experience. The plot develops at fair ´pace, although sometimes I wished to skip some descriptions to just rush forward with the plot. Nevertheless, the book was a good read and I will certainly continue with reading the next one in the series.

This is my first book from author Kallysten and I’ve been totally blown away. I really loved Bodyguards. Bodyguards tells the story of a 19 year old woman, weeks shy of her twentieth birthday. Her name is Vivien. And her whole life is about to change.

Right away the book starts on an eerie note – a nightmare. Something about getting this type of an insight to a characters mind always makes me empathize with them a bit more. Dreams are pretty intimate, and when they are nightmares you really get to get a peak at what can really drive a person. The whole first chapter is just filled with this foreboding aura, and it had me flipping pages as quick as I could.

But its not all doom and gloom. There’s a love interest here by the name of Brad. And Vivien has a crush on him. And she gets the courage to ask him out. And Brad denies her. I really had to laugh at Vivien’s reaction when he turned her down. I would have (sadly) reacted the same way. The fact that I could see a bit of myself in Vivien really endeared me to her a bit more.

As the blurb says, Vivien witnesses a knife fight, and then learns the truth about Brad – and his twin brother Aedan. They are sworn by oath to be her bodyguards, and she is a princess. Then they take her to Foh’Ran, an alternate world. I really am not a “portal” person. I don’t go for the swirling mist, the rippled circle, whatever it is that characters use to jump from one world to another. But Kallysten may change my stance on that. There’s not all kinds of focus on the actual portal, which is something I am grateful for. And the other world of Foh’Ran, although it may not be as modern, is certainly an interesting world. It is full of beauty, and for lack of a better word, magic. Although its residents would scoff, and insist you call it what it is – The Quickening. There are vampires and channelers, Quickening shields and castles. And this is where Vivien really learns more about herself, and how she is descended from Foh’Ran royalty.

A bit about Brad, cause I love a leading man. He’s everything a leading woman dreams of, aside from available. Brad has a thing about being “proper” and as it annoyed Vivien, it annoyed me. But luckily for us all, Brad is not all brawn – he definitely has brains. And ladies, keep an eye out for him. At one point he makes a speech to Vivien that made me stop breathing and pant at the same time. Killed me and repaired me all at once. And I am more than sure it had the same effect on Vivien.

One character who I thought was infinitely interesting was Aedan. Aedan, whose life took an entirely different turn than his brother, has some obvious issues he should work out. But I really want to know his back story in more depth. I found him to be so intriguing and… barely harnessed. I won’t blow any secrets about him, but suffice it to say I thought he was fascinating. And as I like to harass authors, I might have to see if I can pry any information to see if Aedan will be featured more prominently in the future. There is also the matter of a woman named Ciara, whom definitely needs more face time with the readers in the future!

I really enjoyed this story. I can’t wait for the rest of the series to be released. The characters and the world were captivating. And there is a beautiful first kiss, one befitting a princes – or any girl who has given her heart away. I am a sucker for a good kiss, and Vivien’s definitely lived up to my hopes.

I just finished the book this afternoon, so I have not yet researched (read: stalked Kallysten’s website) to see what’s in store, but I know I definitely will be in line when the next book in the Quicksilver Codex is released.

4.5 Stars for this one!

I received this book for review without knowing anything about the author, I hadn't read anything from Kallysten before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Now though, I am impressed. Starting this book I was thinking it would be ok but not a favorite and now after reading it I really enjoyed it. It has all of the things you could ask for in a sweet paranormal romance like this, action, adventure, a fascinating world and characters that make you fall in love with them (well maybe not Vivien but definitely the guys). And I loved the different look on vampires! I'm always excited to read a story like this with a new look at a favorite paranormal creature.

This story had a lot to it but was pretty simple and easy to follow but it also has a lot of info thrown in there. From the very first word I was interested, which can be a difficult thing for me since I've read so many books. But this one was surprisingly easy to read and enjoy!

I really liked Braden and Aedan's characters. They were everything you could ask for in heroes. They protected Vivien with their lives and would have done anything to make her happy. Vivien though, she is a spoiled brat, or she acted like one anyway. I didn't much care for her attitude towards Aedan, it kind of made me mad throughout the whole book. She should have just been grateful for everything they sacrificed for her but no, she has to act like a spoiled 5 year old about everything, including the fact that they fought to protect her. But in the end she turned around, mostly and won my respect with the way she handled herself with the King.

All in all, I enjoyed this book a lot. It's still not my favorite but it's close enough to being one. And with the way it ended, opening things up for the next book in the series, it really makes me wish I could continue on with the next one right now! I am very much looking forward to seeing where Kallysten takes these characters in the future and I'm also kind of hoping that poor Aedan gets his happy ending in all of this. I have my guesses but I'll keep those to myself until I can read the next book and see for myself. :) Until then though, I plan to catch up on all of this authors books that I haven't read yet because this book has made me a definite fan!!!

(I received this book in return for my honest opinion. I was not compensated for this review and the opinions stated in it are mine and mine alone.)

This review also appears on my blog Amy's Book World:

I am one that just recently started reading Kallysten's books and have loved them. This one though is not among my favorites. The reason this is not a favorite of mine is because of the main character Vivian. She is the heir to the Foh'Ran throne and has living in the Otherworld aka Earth since she was little. What makes her not a favorite is that she has 2 bodyguards risking their lives for her and they want to bring her back to Foh'Ran to claim the throne. She turns around is is ungrateful and rude to them. The only time she is nice is when she thinks she is getting what she wants or seducing Brad. She is naive and childish at times. I get that she only remembers her time in the Otherworld and not Foh'Ran so she may be scared. Jeez if someone tells you to stay behind during a fight, stay behind.

I love the other characters, Brad and Aedan. I think that they have an interesting storyline. Brad has spent most of the time tailing Vivian in the Otherworld. While Aedan became a vampire in order to get closer to the enemy to protect Vivian. You can see that Aedon is envious of Brad. He has the life that he wanted. Seeing him with Vivian makes it harder.

Like I said I have read the author's work before and loved it. She has a way about writing erotica/adult novels and have them come off as contemporary but still appeal to your naughty side. I think that with this book her writing was imaginative but the execution just fell a little short. This one is a little more on the tamer when it comes to sexuality compared to her other books.

Overall thoughts are that I think that this is a series that has potential. I hope that as it progresses the main character changes with it. I think I would give a second book in this series a try. It may just be a book series that gets better with each book.

Disclaimer: I received this book as a part of a book tour for the purposes of an unbiased review.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Vivien’s a jogger – I applaud that she can, me – not. But the jog changes in an instant and then the story changes. But is it all a dream or is it of things to come? Why not take a chance and read in order to find out for yourself.

Bradan and Aedan are her protectors and they also happen to be twins. The reader gets to see some of the special bond that twins seem to have. It’s something that most of us can only imagine. Yet they are also individuals who are as different as night and day.

What I love about this book is that Vivien is not accepting about what she’s been told. No matter that you may be a fan of paranormals, are you really going to believe someone that you really don’t know? Makes the story more believable that way – especially about something that you really believe doesn’t exist. And the other world isn’t made out to be a romantic place either. All of this makes for a great adventure/suspense tale.

Kallysten gives her readers some fight scenes and it just reminds me of the swashbuckling scenes in the old movies. Our three main characters all seem to be stubborn and none wants to give an inch. Just like in real life, the romance comes naturally. The author goes about building the story first and then when the time is right, that’s when things start to change.

The reader gets the perfect ending. It leaves you ready for part two. And this author was nice enough to include an excerpt of Quickening, which came out in June 2013, but it’s just a teaser. It’s also an incentive to continue this series to see what Kallysten has in store for her characters next. I can’t wait!

Bodyguards is about a young women who is turning 20 soon, and also learns that this is going to be one of most important birthdays ever.

Vivien is the princess and heir to a realm she didn’t know existed. When she was little, her mother sent her away to Earth for hiding.

Everything changes in the blink of an eye. Vivien stumbles into a knife fight, watches a man die in front of her, and soon listens, stunned, as Brad and his brother Aedan tell her a story of magic, vampires and a murderous ruler intent on killing a princess in hiding.

This book was good, I really want to read the rest of the series so I can see what happens. This first book is basically about getting to know the story and the world and the situation that is going on.
I have to admit, I really didn't care for Vivien, she is very selfish and self absorbed. Here is this other world that is dependent on her return to her world and take back the throne and all she wants to do is run, hide and go back to being a simple human.
I get that, I really do. but there is a bigger picture here to look at, and life isn't all about her and her wants. She can't seem to look past that.
She finally does, to a point, but not until the end and even at that I have to read the next book to see if does finally come through for her world.
DONT get me wrong, I liked the book, Kallysten is able to create a world that draws you in and keeps you there. I just didn't care for Vivien.
So you can only guess what I will be adding to my next-up-to-read list.

The first book in the QuickSilver Codex is an intriguing fantasy that whisks readers to another realm.

Vivien is a typical young woman on the verge of her twentieth birthday; she’s going to attending college, gaining independence and hoping to take her burgeoning relationship with her classmate Brad to a different level. Now she’s in a different realm, she has bodyguards, learns magic and vampires do exist and the icing on the cake she’s a princess and heir to the throne and has a murderous ruler intent on killing her. What’s a girl to do when all this happen; run and hide or try figure out whom she is really is?

This steady paced story is full of action, suspense, romance and adventure as the author brings this fantasy to life with vivid imagery and strong bewitching characters. The story captures the imagination and keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end and gets them totally caught up in the events that take place.

There is romance between Vivien and Brad but most of this portion of the story focuses on her new situation which the author describes in vibrant detail that has the reader totally empathizing with Vivien’s plight. Vivien captures the heart, but seems a little whiney until she steps forward, but then she had a lot thrown at her at once and I think she will prove to be a force to be reckoned with once she’s on her feet.

Kallysten always produces the best stories and this time is no different. She has created an intriguing and enthralling fantasy that promises a great reading time and I can’t wait to read the next installment of the QuickSilver Codex.

I devoured both QuickSilver Codex installments, Bodyguards and Quickening, over the weekend – now I am forced to wait for the next release, Bloodchild.

I am not sure why I keep letting Kallysten do this to me. I find myself so entrenched in the worlds she creates that it is often a couple of days before I recover and can attempt to read another book. I find myself wondering what Vivien, Braden, and Aedan are going to face next. Her ability to fully develop characters without subjecting the reader to prolonged dictions is startling. As a reader, I thrive on her sharp-decisive writing style. She has introduced me to a triad of characters that I am eager to see find their happily ever after.

~ Keep these intriguing stories coming ~

Bodyguards was a great read for me. I have been reading a lot of erotica an YA books and this one was a breath of fresh air. To me I would consider this a New Adult read as the characters are in college. Vivien lives a simple life pretty normal for any college student who is going to school, working, and lusting after a guy. Vivien likes Brad and wishes there could be more between them but Brad is just her buddy right now who talks to her and jogs with her on occasion. Then things change in the blink of an eye when Vivien witnesses a knife fight and the death of a man.

What Vivien learns stuns her and she simply can not believe it because she thinks it is all a lie. But as time goes on she is starting to see that their is truth to what Brad and his brother have told her. She is a princess in hiding and someone very powerful wants to kill her before her 20th birthday. She will learn that magic is real and Vampires are real and room the earth.

When Brad and his brother use the magic to take Vivien to the other world she is stunned to know that what they said is true and is also intrigued by what she finds. At times I got very angry at Vivien because she did not act like a proper lady but a spoiled little brat. But she started to come around towards the end and I am really looking forward to reading book two which I need like right now so I can find out what happened.

Give this book a try! It is different and unique all wrapped up into one lovely package.

Vivien's world is turned upside down when she discovers that everything she believed about who she is was a lie told to protect her. But now Rhuinn, who has taken her rightful place as ruler of Foh'Ran, is determined to make sure she doesn't make it to her twentieth birthday and accept her rightful place as ruler. He doesn't count on Viven having to sworn QuickSilver guards who will stop at nothing to ensure her safety and her true place as queen.

Vivien had a lot to take in when she was finally confronted with the truth that she was not an ordinary human girl, but rather the heir apparent to rule Foh'Ran. She didn't always act like the girl who would be queen, but you could understand her fits and acting out as she tried to adjust to her new reality. What I found interesting is how she could have such strong feelings on opposite ends of the spectrum for her bodyguard brothers, Bradan and Aedan. I would have expected more animosity towards Bradan for the untruths he told her for most of her life, but she was quick to forgive him and save her anger for his brother. The relationship between the three should make for interesting reading in future installments for this series, as it appears there is so much more to Aedan.

I would have liked more backstory about Rhuinn and what is the relationship is between Ciara and Aedan (because it seemed to be more than just her being his maker). I'm hopeful we'll get more of those stories as the series moves forward.

As usual Kallysten has yet to disappoint. This is the first installment in the QuickSilver Codex, and considering my love for the lady who wrote it, the only series that I have yet to read. It wont take me long to get caught up, however, especially if the next books are as great as this one. There is no setting the pace with this lady. You are instantly roped into the story, caught up in the characters and their emotional struggles. I have yet to meet a character of Kally's which I didn't like. They are all beautiful, sensual men and women, plagued by their own demons and needs, who you can't help but fall in love with, - and Vivien and the twins are no exception. You quickly find yourself becoming enraptured by them, eager for more, anticipating which path Kally will take them down next. In my opinion this is what makes for good reading. You are always pleasantly surprised, be it an action packed fight scene, or a more intimate one between the heroine and the object of her affections. The of course their are the brothers themselves, their relationship is one that had me intrigued and a little curious. If you are anything like myself then you will be glued to your seat lost in your imaginings as Kally's words expand and grow into something amazing in your mind. The need to experience it all, and see the characters get their HEA will drive you insane. This is definitely the makings of another amazing series, and one I would recommend you read.

I received a copy of this eBook from Kallysten in exchange for an honest review.

About The Book:
Vivien's worries are those of a typical young woman who is turning twenty in three weeks - college grades, independence and taking her relationship with her classmate and jogging partner, Brad, to a different level. Everything changes in the blink of an eye when she stumbles into a knife fight and watches a man die. Stunned, she is told by Brad and his twin brother Aedan, her self-proclaimed bodyguards, that she is a princess in hiding and heir to a realm she didn't know existed. Also about magic, vampires and the murderous ruler intent on killing her. She refuses to believe. But then they use magic to take her to the realm and Vivien has to figure out who she truly is.

My Opinion:
Highly recommend to everyone. It's a great story and another example of Kallysten's amazing talent. She never disappoints with her story's. Always leaving you wanting more! I was hooked from the beginning and read it in one day. Can't wait to read the other books in the QuickSilver Codex series.

Another great series from Kallysten. This hooked me from the start to where I read it straight through til the end. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book.

I loved all the main characters in it for different reasons. Vivien was very relatable in the situation she was put into. She finds out that she's this princess from another world no less that needs her help to over throw the king since she's the rightful heir. Where all Vivien wants to do is finish college and maybe date her cute running partner Brad. Only to find out that he's actually one of her bodyguards. Both him and his twin brother Aedan. They took an oath when they were young to protect her. She has her moments where you definitely get frustrated with her and want her to think about it from their side of things but again it is understandable that she's thrown into this position out of nowhere.

I was definitely torn between the brothers. Brad is so sweet and loves Vivien but is torn by his promise and what is proper. He wants to be with her but he knows that he shouldn't. And Aedan who has been alone for so long and sacrificed so much for her without her knowing.

Vivien falls for Brad but I have a feeling that she may come to love Aedan too. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens.

This is definitely a great start, I'm loving the characters although I do have a fondness for Aedan because he is a vampire lol. Vivien is a little bit weak for me but I look forward to seeing her mature throughout the series. There are some new to me elements in this and not sure if they have a premise in other books but I enjoyed learning about the Quickening and this whole new world parallel to our own.

I love Kallysten's ability to make her worlds both different but familiar, I enjoy being able to relate to the characters in some way and the relationship dynamic with Aedan, Braden and Vivien is something I look forward to seeing evolve.

I did not read the excerpt for the next book because I knew I would just have to buy it immediately upon reading more but for now I will wait, conquer a little more of my TBR and return to this great world when I get a chance. This is definitely a cliffhanger so if you are opposed to reading them I suggest you buy the next book before reading this one.

As Vivien nears her twentieth birthday she is busing with college life and trying to get the attention of Brad. Brad is a student and her jogging partner but he seems so shy. Vivien finally gets the nerve to ask him out and is hurt when he turns her down. She decides that she doesn’t want anything to do with him and will start running on her own in a new place just to avoid him.

As she starts out on her new run she is attacked. Brad comes in to save her and she is shocked to see that he kills one of the men. Only it’s not Brad that comes to her rescue but rather his twin brother Aedan that she didn’t even know existed. Now the brothers tell her that she is a princess hiding on Earth and is from another place. They are sworn to protect her. They tell her of her birth place, vampires and rulers and it just doesn’t seem real.

Great new series! Anything is possible with magic and new worlds. This book is filled with all those things that I would like to experience. Sweet romance intermixed with danger keeps you turning the pages for more. A definite keep read for this series.

Vivien is feeling tense with her impending birthday, but it mainly has to do with her crush with fellow student Brad. When she decides to take a chance and let him know how she feels, it ends up with her huffing away and embarrassed by the incident. Needing to blow of steam, she heads for her daily run only to end up in the middle of an attack and meeting Brad's twin brother Aedan. Everything Vivien knew is about to change, she is a princess from another realm and Aedan and Brad are there to serve as her bodyguards.

This was the beginning of what I believe will be a series, it was intriguing because Brad and Vivien definitely have feelings for one another but Brad wears his duty of her bodyguard with honor and it interferes with what both want and what they can have. Impending danger swirls around Vivien as she moves closer to the date she will become Queen. Can't wait to read the next one.

Since I like my books a bit grittier, like Ward of the Vampire, I would classify this as a YA book. I tend to get annoyed and impatient with the naïveté of the younger H/h and find myself rushing through books that lean towards the YA genre. However, I found myself not rushing through this book. I liked the world Kallysten has introduced in this series and as always her writing style pulls you into the story and gives you what you need to feel like you are right there with the H/h. Although, I still wanted to bang the characters' heads together occasionally because of their immaturity. Even though I was given a free copy of the book for an honest review I rated it 5 stars because it's got what it takes...good plot, well developed characters, crisp writing style...can't get much better than that. :)

I really enjoyed this book, so much so, I immediately bought and read the second book! The characters were well developed and you can really feel the emotion. Vivien finds a completely different life waiting for her and Kallysten makes it easy to sympathize with her reluctance and fear. The struggle with what the twin brothers Aeden and Bradan felt was their responsibility to each other and Vivien was complex. Although they each went about life completely differently, both brothers gave up a lot in order to protect Vivien. By the end of the book I found myself struggling with which one I liked best. This book provides enough romance, adventure, vampires and fantasy to keep you captivated until the end.

Vivien, almost 20 years old, lived at home with her Aunt Anabel and attended college. She had a crush on fellow student and running partner, Brad. Life was simple until she found out she is the princess of Foh'Ran, a world far away from earth, and Aunt Anabel and Brad are two of her three bodyguards. Things are never as they seem.

Fantastic story! So much happens in this book but to tell you more would be a huge spoiler. I just have to say that her bodyguards are fiercely loyal and terribly sexy! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

So the one thing that sucks about this book, is the wait for the next novel! I thought this book was great! It took me no time at all to read it! Without giving away too much: Vivien's life as she knows it changes drastically, and the only family member she has ever known is in trouble. She's introduced to a whole new world and has to fight for what is rightfully hers. It was a awesome book and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Here is a link where you can find her book, enjoy!

I have to admit, this one drew me in and I was excited to read the sequel, Quickening, immediately afterwards (although it was farther down the TBR list). Good character development, and while the story seemed dragged out in places, I think overall, the story ad plot were well done. I will give the same review for both parts. While book one did not have one of those annoying cliffhangers, it was obvious there was more to the story. I am curious to see were this story goes, as Book two did leave the door open for a lot of drama in the third book. A great series.

This book was a cute, fun read. I would categorize it as New Adult. The MC is almost 20, it has some sexual references and light sex. I liked Vivien and Brad, but I adored Aedan! I would have liked to have seen more from him. The writing flows nice. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but by the end, I really wanted to know what was going to happen next.
