Winner of a 2012 Moonbeam Children's Book Award! At just 14 years old, gymnast Gabby Douglas left behind her close-knit family in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to train under Liang Chow, famed coach of Olympic legend Shawn Johnson. The move to Iowa was not an easy decision for the focused teenager. For many months, she suffered serious bouts of homesickness. Still, the girl with the golden smile believed her sacrifice would someday lead her to Olympic gold. A children's biography, Gabby Douglas: Golden Smile, Golden Triumph will grab readers as they experience the thrilling path the popular gymnast from the Fierce Five took on her way to becoming Olympic Champion and America's Sweetheart.

The reason I chose to read this book is because it is about gymnastics and I love gymnastics. The other reason why I chose this book is because my mum accidentally bought it on her tablet so I kinda had to read it.
This book fills in the category on the wide reading bingo board as “ A Diary, Autobiography or biography” I like this category because it gets us reading a very different type of book to normal.
My favourite character in this book is Gabby Douglas off course because she is pretty much the only character in the book. I love her determination whenever she is about to do a routine. Also I like her attitude towards never giving up.
My favourite quote in this book is definitely “The hard work always pays off in the end, so just keep fighting for your dream.” I like this quote because it really will inspire anyone who reads it. And again it shows her share determination.
The thing I have learnt from this book is that you should never give up and you have to keep fighting for your dreams. An other thing I have learnt from this book is if you put in the hard yards you can accomplish anything.

Most definitely this book would gain the interest of girls. The book cover is very motivating and it looks interesting to read because she has a gold medal around her neck. I would use this book during a 6th grade English class. We would read the book together and then I would have the students write their own biography.
