Someone went too far, no one is supposed to die, but two players have and the Tournament will be forever changed. GREY WINTER by B.B. Griffith takes off with a chaotic twist to the long established rules of the game. Someone has broken with their code of honor, and one team is gone and must be replaced only to become fair game for every other team out there in this international high stakes game of survival and power. Not only that, they have been exposed. The world knows and the world wants in on the action, even if only in a peripheral way.

As the foundation of the Tournament begins to crumble, each team must decide for themselves, who can they trust, who must they eliminate and how far they will go to do so. What started as a bizarre way to end conflicts and fatten the purses of power has become something ugly, something less and the public is eating it all up like candy. The secret lives of the players are now non-existent and their every step has become fodder for entertainment, just when their lives have never been in more danger and evil has leached into the very fiber of the Tournament.

I couldn’t help but feel this time out that the instability and the lowering of game standards echoed the world today, still filled with good people, but losing some sense of humanity in the pursuit of “more” of everything from power to control at any cost.

Another high-octane, high tension and highly chaotic tale that races past in a blur. Who can be trusted and why? How did the world find out about the Tournament, and what made them actually believe? So many characters, so many personalities and so much action woven into knots of barbed wire! Mind boggling, brilliant and not so far-fetched?

I liked this better than the first one. I think because there were less teams, which meant less character so they were easier to keep track of and you also got to know them better. The twists and reveals really kept you guessing.

Team.Blue is gone, there have been murders, killers on the loose. Stakes are higher as new players are choose . Secrets,,and they are young and inexperience, causing problems. This go more into the player then the actual war game. Intriguing of knowing what makes then a player.

Loved the second book in this trilogy, although devastated by the events unfolding. Definitely a good story and keeps one engaged. Would be good to have all the characters listed at the front though to make it easier to keep track of who’s who. Can’t wait to read the next one.

One or more players are responsible for the murder of two of Team Blue's members, and word about The Tournament is reaching the masses. As the rules underpinning the contest are seemingly falling apart, the race is on to recruit a new Team Blue before another Tournament is called. Ian, from Team Green, is fairly certain he knows who the murderer is, but is called in to help train the new Team Blue, who are all very young and have no experience. In all likelihood, they'll be the first target for easy 'kills'—but not everything is as it seems, and the next Tournament might not be as unknown as before, nor have the expected outcome.

There seemed to be more action in this book, as the action moves between teams and our stolid insurance investigator accompanied by a Tournament courier. Ian became a more likeable character this time—he was a bit of a blank slate in the first book, and he came more alive in this one. Ellie also has promise, although whether that will change as she becomes a fully-fledged member of Team Blue remains to be seen. There's also the intrigue of who committed the murders, and a couple of the characters I especially disliked got a certain amount of comeuppance this time.

On to book 3....

I recieved this book for free from Goodreads First Reads.

Grey Winter by B.B. Griffith is the second book in the Tournament series. I haven't read the first book however enough references were given to it to kind of understand and follow along with the story. The only time I really stuggled was either empathizing or relating to the current characters loss of characters either dead or dying from book 1. So those deaths didn't impact me as much as they probably would have had I known these characters.

Grey Winter was very fast paced and it seemed like I was done with it in no time. However I was a little disappointed because most of the book was about finding and training the new recruits for team blue and the tournament didn't actually take place in this book so that felt like a big let down. However the author made up for it because even though the enemies of team blue weren't very featured there was an epic show down between them and team blue at the end and not everyone survived. Some big twists in this book. Some big deaths.

My favorite characters were Ellie and Ian. Ian's character was so smart and quick that all his scenes were either somewhat intellectual or adventurous. Ellie quickly grew on me as a captain. She was never egotistical but still not really supportive of her team until the battle and she really became the captain for them. I liked Tom and Cy but didn't like how Cy seemed closed off much of the time and Tom just really unsure of himself. But like Ellie, after the battle, I think their characters will change.

This book really made me want to go back and read book one mostly because this book was so great and mostly because it really made me want to know what all the fuss about this tournement was actually about. I have an idea that it's dangerous, deadly, and highly publicized but that's about it.

All in all, I found this to be a great follow-up to Blue Fall, which I quite enjoyed. Good pacing, compelling new characters, great twist at the end. I found the setting for the final show-down to be really disturbing, given recent American history. Maybe that was the point, but it felt a little... tasteless? I dunno. All in all, a quick and enjoyable read, especially after slogging my way through the entire ASoIaF series!

Grey Winter is an exciting follow up to Blue Fall, and excellent holiday reading. If you want a techno-thriller that keeps you coming back for more this is your book: Griffith has created a vivid and enthralling world of high-stakes, fast-paced action and suspense, which like Frank Youngsmith, I don't want to leave. Can't wait for the third installment - Black Spring!

I enjoyed the continuation of The Tournament series, with the introduction of the new Blue team it gives a peek into how the teams were formed with out relying on flashbacks. I have one small complaint though. Part of the story is set in Cheyenne, and while I don't mind fictionalizing a town, I would like the town to still be somewhat recognizable. Other than that I really enjoyed the story.

Well, the mystery from the first book was answered in this one. I did not really like the solution either. It was very sad. We meet new characters, and I didn't think I would like them. But, I did eventually warm to them. This one had a sad ending, and I wanted to read the next right away in the hopes that it would improve that feeling.

Jumped right in to volume 2 and read it straight through. It really is a fascinating premise and the whole background of The Tournament starts to be developed and revealed. I await the publication of volume 3....

Better than the first book. There was more action and no longer 10,000 new characters to keep track of.
