About the author

Steinar Kvale was professor of educational psychology and director of the Centre of Qualitative Research at the University of Aarhus, and adjunct faculty at Saybrook Institute, San Francisco. He was born in Norway and graduated from the University of Oslo. He continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg with an Alexander von Humboldt scholarship and was a visiting professor at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and West Georgia University, Carrolton, and the University of Bergen. His long-term concern was with the implications of such continental philosophies as phenomenology, hermeneutics, and dialectics for psychology and education.

Contains very little actually useful information to people wanting to conduct reviews. For instance, the book does not cover interview structure, such as how to select questions for an interview. The benefits of unstructured vs. structured interviews. No empirical studies are mentioned regarding different interview techniques.

Generally a useless book. Don't read.

The book is well-written, gives a lot of tips and insights in the actual studies and is a good tool to use when preparing the interview study. Only as it is not recent, it does not give insights into the digital tools to analyse interviews

Another practical guide but this time about interviews. I really like the waythe author writes about the knowledge conceptions of interviews, about the epistemological grounds of interviews and recommendations for improving and enhancing a report on the results of the research. Another adavntage of this book is that it gives various modes of analizing the data collected through interviews. Unfortunately, there is very little information about focus group interviews and no information at all about mediated focus group interviews.

Sage publications are the best when it comes to academic type literature. I am never disappointed. This book is sort and sweet and packed with gems. This book is written for the post graduate student and balances the level of descriptive detail given with assumed background knowledge to follow the arguments. The format and layout is easy to follow. Too many text boxes makes it cumbersome to read and distracts from the flow.
