Rate this book

A really good report on the repression, the Muslim women face, when they want to break away from the patriarchal structure.

It is not a book which opresses against Islam, but only against this kind of interpret
Everyone - whether Muslim or Christian - should read this book. And after that work to ensure that Muslim women are finally being perceived as a person and obtain a right to self determination.

How this liberation is accepted and carried on is a private matter, as well as whether those women want to wear the veil or not. After all, this is freedom: accepted by other cultures the way I want to live personally.

I still can't get the hang of these kind of books. I suppose the differences in upbringing / background and circumstances are just too big. Why not (en masse) protest. But that is my western eye. I can't imagine how it would be like to live in circumstances like that. (At least not the whole way).

About the book. I gave it 2 stars, because i found it disappointing. In the beginning th author already tells what the whole book is leading to. The big bang or something like that. And then she starts anew at the beginning of her life, following here years more or less chronologically, leading the reader to again that very bad event. I'm sorry she coose this building of the book, in my humble opinion it would have been better to tell her life from start to the end of the book.
This was like those detectives you see or read where the puzzle is already solved for the reader / viewer, but the detective has no clue (yet). For me this spoilt a lot of the reading pleasure this book could have brought.

Touching story but it’s unfortunate is once again the stereotype of the submissive Muslim woman… It’s as if Europe has solved every problem and white people’s tradition is exempt from all of that.
Boring.
