the blurb below contains spoilers for the first book in the series. If you haven't started the series yet, begin with Pretty Dark Vows .
* They lied to me. They used me. They almost broke me. But I won’t let them win.
I should have known better than to trust the Reapers. Should’ve known better than to let myself feel anything for them.
Beneath their possessive kisses and stolen moments lurked a dark secret—one that changes everything.
And the worst part is, even though I hate Maddoc, Dante, and Logan, I still need them.
Because my sister is in so much more danger than I thought.
And they’re the only ones who can help me save her.
This is the second book in the Ruthless Hearts series, a new adult romance. It contains steam, violence, and dark subject matter. Please venture between these pages at your own discretion.

Ok.. so I'm just going to say this.. that ending was so painful to witness and I am mad as hell about it! 😠😤😡🤬
My heart is breaking for so many reasons with this 2nd installment in this 3 book Trilogy. I will attempt to not go on a long rant though. Let me just say that this story was written well, I just was not crazy about what many major things were shown to me, and how certain things unfolded. 😕
This book gets 3 ✨ because Riley truly ticked me off. The choice she made at the end of book 1 that leads you here, caused alot of dangerous and unnecessary things to happen. The fact that it took her forever to take full ownership of that choice, THAT made me hate her even more.
So because majority of this book is also in Riley's POV, it took me a long minute to be able to tolerate her presence. Which hurt, cause I really liked her in book 1. Was proud of her really.. So, I definitely enjoyed being inside of Maddoc, Dante, and Logan's head more, for the brief times we get these repreives from Riley's, because I was just too mad at her to even try to be mature enough to empathize with her.🤨
Then there was also the limited and too far in-between personal one on one time and growth, we get with Riley and Logan. I didn't like this imbalance at all.😩 They did not get equal time emotionally or physically like Dante and Maddoc did. And when it finally reached the finish line with them, it was incomplete and off its mark as well. 😮💨 Not saying what we did get wasn't fascinating, 🥵🥵 it was, just not equal when you compare it to her emotional and physical relationship with Dante and Maddoc. 🧐
🗣🗣🗣 So I say this with complete conviction, that this better be way more of what I want to see in the final book with Riley and Logan, or this Trilogy will be a complete fail for me.💯
Also, the twist you find out within the last 6 chapters really fell kind of flat for me here. Cause it really just made this entire book 2, a waste of time, frustration, and anxiety if you're looking at the big picture.. so this is why book 2 gets 3 ✨ from me. Plus, the explanation given in how this was possible, was not explained clearly so it was lost on me.
I do have every hope 🙏🏼🙏🏼 that the final book (3), will be tighter in its execution and reasoning. That it will make all this suffering and frustration I witnessed here, actually mean something.
So, Ms. Rose please, please don't disappoint me, this coming September. 🤞
Now, based on book 1, I would definitely recommend this Trilogy. Book 2 is just a beast you'll have to get through, if you're invested in this story/characters. So push through. Book 2 still has its high points as well.🖤
Please someone make it so that I don't have to wait till September for the final book🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
first things first: justice for Logan 🗣️ his connection with Riley still doesn’t get as much attention as Dante and Maddoc’s.. so basically, he was robbed of page time and now I’m hating. I liked this book a lil more than the first but my brain keeps forcing me to notice all the things that annoyed me. I still like Riley but I have to admit that a lot of what happens in this book is mostly her fault, even though I understood where she was coming from in making those choices. I also became very aware of some repetition in the descriptions the author used, which started to distract me too. but the ending did get me though and everything is so much worse since the mmc’s were finally opening up to Riley and now it’s all being ripped away from them again.. Austin Mckenna you better count your days mf ! 🔪
side note: the painting and tattoo shop scenes .. Dante really didn’t have to step on my neck like that 😮💨
Still got no complaints! This was equally fast-paced with solid progression on the relationship aspect. I am loving all the Hs but am beyond thrilled with the change in Logan. Gahhh 😍. Dante is so all-in.. and then with the praise *falls over*. Maddoc is such a steadfast and solid leader; one of the best I've read. I wish we got more of him, but I think we'll see it in the final book.
Although this ended on a cliffhanger, it was a good stopping point and not where one wants to rage (as much) that the next part isn't released yet. It's a bummer that the next book is the final because I just want MORE from this group.
Not just🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 but you can feel the passion and protectiveness in here. It's all so well done.
Ok. When it comes to ‘spicy books’, I feel like my ratings are often very lenient because I expect more smut than plot and that’s totally fine. But I feel like the author realized they wrote themselves in a tight corner in the previous book and made everything a bit more mild to make sure it could still work.
Logan’s issues, the fact that they had a plan for Riley’s sister, Riley’s own feelings of betrayal… Everything seemed more mild and pushed into the background until seemingly enough time has passed for the characters to be “Oh, we don’t feel that way anymore.” Which… Ok, I guess.
I feel like Riley lost a lot of her likeable personality in this book, sadly. Babe, it’s your fault your sister is gone again, take some responsibility. You sent her away after hearing one conversation. Also, how sinister the guys were talking in the last chapters of the first book truly does not match what was going on.
Also, sorry if I’m spoiling this for anyone but the ‘plot twist’ is the most obvious one in history. That combined with a ACOMAF style ending, and you completely lost me. I have no interest in reading the conclusion, sadly. I’m pretty sure I can guess how this story will end…
After a 5 star review of book 1, I've been thoroughly disappointed at several points in book 2. I understand having to write in adversity, but the main gang, the reapers are supposed to be so much smarter and stronger than the weasles of West Point gang, yet they've out smarted & over powered the Reapers at every turn, multiple times (i can understand having to fight them and them even getting the advantage once or so in each book) but every time is ridiculous! And aparently, with the other gang outsmarting the reapers at every turn, they never suspect a traitor. It just doesnt match up to what the reapers are built up to be by the author. Its all words but the actions shes written for them doesnt match the gangs hype. As a reader, it disappoints me and pisses me off that she would think her readers so stupid. Furthermore, Riley went from being a strong kick ass character in book 1, to a weak character always in her head who couldnt keep her shit together in book 2 when her sister is on her own and eventually taken by WP. This from the strong woman who went to a Gang leader and put everything on the line to get them to help her find her sister in the first book. Book 2 was also too much in Rileys point of view and she just made one poor decision after another. Im sorry but i could have done without the stupidity of Book 2. Its starting to feel like an unnecessary filler book. So Disappointing.

I'm sooo annoyed. The fmc is so stupid and caused the whole issue that lasts the WHOLE BOOK. How hard is it to find a girl in a town??? Why did I waste my time even reading this???
I have been away from it for too long and don’t see myself going back in the near future, so I’ll try again when I’m in the mood for something like this again.
I found it really hard to DNF this book, and regrettably it took me days to read what I can naturally read in a few hours. The book just lagged on and on because it’s failed to capture my attention in any meaningful way despite the oversharing of the character’s histories.
While technically the book is well-written, it’s missing a lot more that smells it hard to read.
The FMC is continuously advertised as a strong woman, but she’s not at all. Her logic is badly twisted so she makes bad decisions, like agreeing to help finding her sister after literally shooting a guy to help her sister get away; she agreed with no promise that they won’t hurt her sister.
By one of the MMC’s own logic she’s not a strong person- even though he’s thinking of how strong she is when this scene occurs. Somehow the MMCs are constantly lauding her as strong and smart, but I can literally only think of two instances in the first and second book when she was either of those things. The only thing she has going for her is that she’s loyalty, but that’s literally it.
The FMC breaks down every other page and is constantly in need of comfort from one of the MMCs. It gets so bad she can’t even focus on actually finding her sister when it’s supposedly her worst nightmare (although that fact doesn’t stop her from distracting or being distracted with sex). Is that what a strong person does?
Would a strong person allow someone who flippantly betrayed her back into her life so easily? Would a person who was betrayed make a deal with the enemy that betrayed her? No, especially not if she was falling for them- that would twist the knife even further and cause a depth of pain that wouldn’t easily be overcome, especially not in a matter of two days. But a day or two after her sister escapes, she makes a deal with the people that betrayed her anyways.
But thank goodness she did because between the four of them they might have a fully functioning brain.
It may not be stupidity, it could just be the MMCs lying, but I don’t like that either. They constantly claim that they’re better and smarter than their rival, but they somehow can’t see that they’ve got a mole and can’t find a girl who was written as “soft” and also are constantly losing people and business to them? Hello?
The character motivations in this book are muddled, despite being multiple POV, and it’s honestly annoying af to have to read multiple POV and have no clarity on the extra characters POV; it’s also pointless writing all that. This book was definitely only written for the spice.
And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but there’s too much spice, and not enough plot. Seriously never thought I’d say that, but there’s WAY too much, and it’s compounded by the FMC’s dreams- which had no actual point in the story; it was all filler. Most of the scenes in this book seem like filler and contribute nothing overall to the storyline.
I think the author intended all these scenes to contribute feelings of love and goodwill between the characters, but I can’t see it. I can see that they’re obsessed with having sex with each other, but that’s it.
The only reason I’m going to read the third book is for some kind of closure for the stupid ass decision she made at the end of this book.

Took me forever to get through this book because I was bored halfway through. FMC starts to get very repetitive and annoying. The smut scenes are too short lived! They start to get good then all of a sudden they are done??? Also.. I can’t help to notice the massive similarities to this series and the filthy wicked psychos series by Eva Ashwood. This series straight up feels like a knock off of it. The characters and storyline are extremely similar.
If I had to read one more scene of them looking in the city for her sister I was going scream. However, the plot development for the romantic leads helped me continue with this one. Will continue on!
Right out of the gate author Callie Rose gives the reader a recap on how the first installment ended to trigger our memory bank. I for one am grateful for that. Better than before the the storyline was weaved in a fashion that did an excellent job keeping me interested in reading.
As I love reading a strong female leads, Riley blows me out of the water. She never says how she feels but the way she feels shines through the pages. Riley is a character that any woman would be proud to emulate. Riley is strong of character and will. She's extreamly brave, incredibly loyal, sweet, and caring to the ones she loves. She falls hard for Dante, Maddoc, and Logan.
Speaking of these 3 dominant alpha male leads they have their own personalities that bleed through the pages.
Dante who Ri fell for first is built, sexy, and dangerous. However he is sweet, romantic, and a bit cocky. Maddox who Ri finds herself tangled up with the feels is a strong, caring leader. Maddoc may be dominate, strict with his men, and brave; but he caring and loving to those loyal to him. Logan is a mystery wrapped into an enigma...until he reveals himself to Riley. He is terrifyingly controlled, a little OCD, a lot dark, and physically has a need to care for the ones he love in his own sometimes frightening way. In a bonus, he is a virgin, until Riley knocks him off his axis. All 3 want Riley as theirs to love and will do anything to protect her. Riley wants and loves all 3 men and her sister and will do anything to protect them even sacrifice herself.
Just like book 1 this ends on a cliff hanger. However, this was written much better than the previous books and I can't wait for the end of September 28, 2023 when book 3 is scheduled for releases!!!!!
I love strong fmc but Reily is anything but smart and strong. PLEASE can she just think for once. She pissed me tf off in some scenes honestly. She put her sister in danger, and it’s clearly her fault, she couldn’t even wait to ask them and came up with the dumbest thing she couldve done, letting her sister go ALONE. “I’ll distract him” hell no??? Just fucking GO with her if you plan to???
I was a little irritated when it looked like all she could think about was fcking them and the type of relationship she has with each of them while she was there for her sister in the first place.
And also what’s pissing me tf off is that they’re literally going around to show pictures of Chloe when ALL they had to do was literally calling Riley’s phone to find Chloe.
“I won’t let them marry my sister, its not that im jealous” ??? Girl you’re literally fucking them all shut up.. this thing she has for being literally obsessed with the “chloe NEEDS me” but quickly shove it aside to think about sex and the men.
When Maddoc just saved her sister AGAIN , for the SECOND TIME and the first fcking thing she does is having sex with him instead of sleeping next to her sister, girl FFS😭. “that I realize it didn’t even occur to me to go back to my own room. I’m exactly where I want to be.”
The way she talks about her sister makes it seem like she’s like 12 when Chloe is 18, it gives the image of her kneeling down to tuck her hair behind her ear and all that, which is good and i get it, but it just rages me.
This had me pinch the bridge of my nose in annoyance “She sucks in a breath, covering her mouth. “They were killing him.” But they didn’t kill him. They left him alive. *He died in my arms*. Whatever Chloe heard over the phone must have been frightening and terrible, *but she didn’t actually hear him die*. It’s not much, but it’s something, and I cling to it.” For how much i want to read it like she’s somehow relieved Chloe didn’t actually have to experience that, it rages me because it looks like she’s dismissing the fact that it’s the same fcking thing she experienced. Chloe was there ON THE PHONE when Frank got shot, while she picked up his call on the phone one hour later because she was having sex in the tattoo shop. So yeah, i hated her pretty much in this scene. It doesn’t matter that he died in her arms, it’s the same.
Also the spicy scenes got boring, all she does is moaning and repeating herself and the brothers did all the work. Not to mention the repeating of the word “delicious” got my eyes rolling in annoyance. And right when the scene got spicy they end???
LOGAN. More Logan’s chapters wouldn’t hurt tbh. Way too much from her pov and the dumbest decisions she could’ve ever made, got me hating her even more. The reading slowed for me, which is strange. It took me 1 week to finish Filthy wicked psychos series (since it’s identical and it also bothers me), and it’s 4 books, but idk it’s getting boring now for this series. The first time she does it with all of the three of them was… 😬. It’s logan’s first time and she didn’t care much about it, some time with just him yk? I didnt enjoyed it much, even dropped the reading after another spicy scene.

This book felt way too long, a little boring and so much of the same stuff written over and over again. It should have been a novella, not a book.
Riley was so good in book 1 but in this one I can’t describe my feelings for her. I don’t hate her but she annoyed me more. And please, don’t get me started on the whole fave her your phone but spend the whole book not knowing how to find her. Please. Ring or text the phone before it runs out of battery. You already know she’s turning it off but has turned it on. Or are we supposed to just assume she’s done that. I mean the whole book is pretty much not finding the sister. The plot was annoying.
Not much happened until towards the end. I felt like we waded through boring to finally get to end, something happens and oh no we have to get through book 3. All I can say is Riley better step up and bring back her strong a-game in the next one.
And the inconsistencies/mistakes were annoying as well.
I’m really torn about this book. I’m actually giving it 3 1/2 stars, and would have given it four, if I hadn’t spent MORE than half of the book wanting to beat my Kindle against the wall in frustration with the h! I really liked the first book (until the ending), and I wasn’t expecting the h to have such a negative impact on me throughout so much of this second installment. Sure, she shot Maddoc at the end of the first one, but I expected her to come to her senses and stop blaming everyone else for Chloe being out on the streets alone. Own up to your 💩 woman! At least she had somewhat redeemed herself by the end, but now there’s a whole NEW set of problems the Reapers have to deal with. Hopefully Riley lives up to the title of the next book, Pretty Vengeful Queen.

I don’t know… I am considering DNF it. The first book was all about finding the sister just to get her back and then mess it up and now we have to find her again… like why. I’m bored and there is not enough spice in this book to hold my interest.

Better than the first because at this point she's thrown away all of her principles
They should just call her or the series, "I can't help it," since Riley says, thinks in her inner monologues, and rationalizes every bad decision and mistake with the phrase to the point it should be her anthem or her name. I hate that the author doesn't take the time to give Riley a reason other than "I can't help it," to develop WHY she jumps into sex with men who are obviously breaking her vows to herself other than "I can't help it," why she's throwing away all her principles, values, the reasonable rules she set for herself etc. Because when guys are treating a female like garbage her saying, "I can't help it" makes her a detestable character to women who DO have a brain in their head, a will beyond their libidos, and the self-respect and self-control to demand better treatment before sharing their bodies or know when to cut and run when you don't get it. "I can't help it" doesn't develop the story that facilitates readers regard for the characters, and "I can't help it" certainly doesn't cover for a woman swearing she's not going to make the same mistakes.
Instead of "I can't help it," reading something like, "he exuded the kind of danger and confidence that I was addicted to and wanted to taste for myself at every opportunity," would have developed the kind of unashamed sexuality that I could have gotten behind. Instead we get "I can't help it," and I ended up hating the female lead for being portrayed as an out of control, easy, flighty, libido-driven idiot too stupid to learn from her mistakes. I needed reasons, I needed development, not lazy writing and falling into the trope to have it do all the heavy lifting with the relationships.
What saves the book is the tense action scenarios, the hint of mystery and adventure, the search for her sister, the plot twists regarding the guys' betrayal and the heir. But I have to admit I'm still not fond of female lead, but what regard I have for Riley comes from the one quality that is developed about her character: her love and loyalty to her sister. It was for those reasons I continued into the second book of the series despite detesting the female lead and loathing two of the male leads. So I guess what I should say is that it does have plot development in some areas but is seriously lacking in others and portraying a woman as cheap and easy is not a way to endear her to strong-willed, independent, and reasonably intelligent readers who will likely not take well to seeing some idiot girl cheapen herself by betraying herself repeatedly and failing to learn from her self-admitted mistakes.
i wasn’t completely sold on Riley’s character in the first book but this book has me LOVING her. she’s the kind of FMC i love to read about, just straight up badass and while she has extremely intense feelings about the guys she’s not dickmatized to the point where she’s moronic. i loved reading the progress between her and logan / her and maddoc. the ending though?! ugh i hurt and for some reason i’m sus of chloe …..
I had a feeling that was going to happen. Twists and cliffhanger. I have to wait a week for final book release. The last scene when she leaves, "I'm not her." "I know." 🔥🔥🔥
This is a good book in a good series. So far anyway. This is book two. I believe there is only three books in the series but a pretty good series so far.
I liked the first book but this book fell flat to me. I think the way they all just forgave her and she forgave them. How she wasn't really thinking about finding her sister but them. It was a bit rough with plot holes.
