Dylan doesn’t do relationships. He and his older brother watched their dad go through hell and back, so they made a pact years ago—no girl would come between the Gibson boys. But his brother sells out. He's getting married anyway. To the sister of a chick Dylan met at a party, who's probably the angriest girl he's ever met. Unfortunately, she happens to be hot, too.
Ziah’s life is upside down—her safe boyfriend turns out to be not-so-safe, and now her sister is getting married before college is over to the older brother of a spoiled, party boy who drives her crazy. And also makes her heart beat too fast.
There’s no denying the attraction, but there's also no denying how much they irritate each other. When they’re thrown together as forced wedding planners, they find an ally in each other--neither wants this wedding to happen.
But instead of putting a stop to the crazy nuptials they find themselves at fittings and cake testing. And maybe even…a few dates? Dizzy is a novel about what happens when two people who are determined not to fall in love, maybe do anyway. Maybe.
I am a compulsive reader and writer who loves YA fiction.
I love nothing more than writing about young adults. There is something so fresh and fun about it. You can pretty much always find me with a book in my hand or open document in front of me.
I live in Southern California with my husband and two children.
First of all, Nyrae and Jolene's dedications are too cute for words :D
Lol. Anyway, I'm doing a short review. --> I had soooooo much fun reading Dizzy!!! This book is a mixture of romance, drama, comedy, and angst rolled into a beautiful package that will make you smile, laugh, swoon, and be in love. I think the chemistry between Dylan and Ziah is off the charts! Plus, they are likable and funny. I loved how the authors have written the alternating POVs and how they blended perfectly together.
Dizzy was such a fun read! It starts out with lots of chemistry and snark, and ends with a lot of heart, and maybe a couple of tears. I just adored this story!
Ziah is finishing her senior year concentrating on good grades and moving onto to med school with her steady beau, James. The last thing she wants to do is go some drunken party, but her boyfriend and best friend, Alyssa want to go, so she’s there. This is where she runs into Dylan, or rather where he runs into her, spilling beer all over her shirt. She saw him before and was mesmerized by his stunning good looks, but then saw him draped all over a girl, and dismissed him on sight. She knows his type, pretty, rich-boy used to having girls throw themselves at him. So the whole beer spilling incident is just another point against him.
Dylan doesn’t do girlfriends. He likes girls, he just never lets them close. His father and brother, Derrick, are a team and stick together, because they’re all they’ve got. Dylan’s mother left them and they haven’t heard from her in years. When Dylan sees Ziah from across the room at his party, he’s immediately attracted. She’s gorgeous in a natural way. Unfortunately, she has nothing but a scowl on her face as she looks back at him. He goes to help her find a soda, and accidentally dumps his beer on her. Who cares, he’s never going to see her again, right? That would be a WRONG!
These two are about to be closer than they ever thought because unbeknownst to them, their siblings, his brother, Derrick and her sister, Lora just got engaged. So Dylan and Ziah are thrown together to help plan the perfect wedding, to their horror. Dylan feels betrayed that Derrick would get married and he’s afraid he’ll end up like their father, alone and miserable. Ziah thinks her sister, Lora is crazy, getting married before she’s finished with college. They’ve always said school first, career second and boys third. There’s no way she’s going to support Lora’s insanity.
It’s always fun to read about antagonistic relationships that turn into romance. They irritate, affect, and push each other’s buttons, because there’s a spark there. I love seeing the slow transition from hate, to like, to more. There was heaps of chemistry in this story. Here’s a little teaser:
I give her a cocky grin and then see the stupid strand of hair fall into her face. I don’t know what makes me do it, but I push it behind her ear. She does another of those little gaspy-breaths, and it makes me start feeling all sorts of things I shouldn’t for a whole list of reasons.
Their time together forces them to see each other in a new light. Ziah has a lot of hurt to deal with because of her relationships, and Dylan deals with his issues of abandonment from his mom. Unintentionally, they each witness the other struggling with these issues, and because of this they become close. I was sad for both Dylan and Ziah at different times. Poor Dylan, it was just so heartbreaking when you find out everything about his mother. I was in tears again! I don’t know if I would’ve been as forgiving as Ziah was in her situation. That was pretty messed up. I have to say, Paul, Dylan’s close friend, came off as sort of a moron at first but he was smarter than he seemed. Although, there was this quote that had me laughing:
“Why? Why couldn’t I see it before?” Paul shrugs. “I don’t know, man. Maybe it’s like Postpartum depression or something.” Looking at him, I shake my head. “That’s for pregnant chicks, you idiot. It’s post traumatic.” “That, too. Maybe you had both.”
This story was co-written by Nyrae Dawn and Jolene Perry. I think they did an excellent job bouncing off each other, crafting the story seamlessly. The story flows perfectly, and at an addictive pace.
A copy of this was provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
4 1/2 Stars ”He’s the need and the sparks and the laughter, and he touches my heart in a way it’s never been touched before. It’s terrifying and so honest it makes me dizzy.”
With just enough drama, angst and wedding preparations Dizzy is a fun YA read! I laughed and smiled through each and every page of this book.
At Dylan Gibson's home a Halloween party is underway...the flyers went out, the alcohol is chilling, and his best friend Paul has the music pumping. Dylan's happy with the way he lives his life. Since the heartbreaking departure of their mom, Dylan, his father and his brother Derrick made a pact: never letting a girl come between them.
There is a girl at his party who has caught his eye. She stands out because of her casual attire and gorgeous looks. This girl doesn't appear to be interested in his charms or his apologies for spilling a beer on her. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. Both Ziah and Dylan feel the strong attraction but don't get each other names, before Ziah leaves the party with her boyfriend and best friend.
Dylan's big brother Derrick is guilty of pact breaking. He has fallen in love and is coming home from college to present his finance and start wedding preparations. Dylan and Ziah are shocked when they come face to face again at their sibling's engagement dinner. The two are sucked into all of the wedding planning. Dylan and Ziah's irritation and also intense attraction to one another makes for some fun scenes. Especially when Ziah was drunk...absolutely hilarious and sweet!!
Ziah falls for Dylan and Dylan falls for Ziah. Staying friends doesn't quite work out when chemistry between a couple is as strong as theirs.
"As much as I should keep my heart in my chest, part of it runs away with him. And maybe that means part of his might be here with me."
Closure on pasts hurts, personal growth for both characters and a happy wedding day for Derrick and Lora made this book a happy light read!!
“It’s so strange how one choice can derail so many lives. It was so huge to me, I expected her answer to change everything, but it didn’t. I guess that’s life, right? You never really know what’s waiting for you. You never really know what’s going to happen or why. You just have to be able to deal with it. Big or small.”
Dylan doesn't do relationships. Ziah doesn't do break-ups. Both don't do weddings.
When Dylan - one half of the 'Gibson boys' with their 'party hard' motto - hears that his brother Derrick is tying the knot, he flips. Girls aren't worth it. They'll never stick with you and, to be honest, Dylan hasn't met a girl that's worth sticking with.
When Ziah finds out her sister is marrying the brother of 'party boy' Dylan, she's reluctant to help with the wedding. The last thing Ziah needs is guy worries, after the 'incident' with James and what with her goals for med school. Guys are not on the agenda.
But both Ziah and Dylan - differences aside - realise they're the only ones on 'Team Sanity' and the only allies they have are in each other. They joke about their siblings, about how dumb love is and of course how they would never be so stupid as to fall for anyone. Ever. And these conversations may just so happen to occur over coffee, whilst eating pizza or watching movies.
Not that they're friends - that idea being ludicrous! - but they're just Wedding Denial Buddies. That's it. Purely buddies.
A determination to avoid love at any cost may just be the pair's undoing, as emotions run high and laughter's on the menu in this novel that is sure to have you dizzy!
While it's not without problems, DIZZY is romantic comedy worth reading because it is packed with genuinely funny moments. The two leads is full of humor, charm, & spunk, and that's saying a lot.
Dylan is a hot party boy and he so knows it. He's motto in life is to... And yeah, party some more. With hot girls. Without ever getting his heart involved of course. He learned it the hard way as a child. From perfect to shattered. He became... But not anymore. After all, he learned from the the best, his brother. And he sure is not going to allow himself to end up like his dad. Not ever.
But then an accident at his very party happened. It involves the angriest girl he has ever seen... Okay. Maybe not that brutal. This book is still oozing with enough fluff so more like cute Disney anger. Yup. That's more likey. ...a beer and a crispy white t-shirt. And even though he felt dizzy upon meeting her, he sure as hell don't go for girls like her. She's clearly into the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing. Relationships? Pssh. Relationships are just messy. Lo... lov...
Like seriously, why does he need to have a "girlfriend" when it's clear that it's the Gibson boys against the worl... Wait, isn't that his brother? But why is he getting married? Sellout! Seriously...
Enter the angrie... err the sister of the bride and also the maid of honor. Ziah's own theory of human motivation states that school should always be first, then career, and boys last. It's what her older sister taught her so why on Earth is she getting married? She hasn't even finished her degree yet! And now Ziah has to juggle her own Oscar-worthy problems (while mending a broken heart) and her maid of honor duties at the same time? NO SWEAT!
Both don't do weddings. But together, they need to plan the perfect wedding. Even though they are both against it.
Soon there's the family dinner to attend, flowers to pick out, dresses to fit, cakes to taste, a kiss to analyse, feelings to deny
Uhm, a little advice here Dylan and a wedding disaster to fix.
Can they both survive the wedding of the year? Their siblings found each other. But can Dylan and Ziah also find a happy ever after? DIZZY sneaks up on you. It will make you laugh, then it will make you wish for a love story like it. Of course it may not seem 100% believable but that's okay. It's a feel-good kind of book that will put a smile on your gloomy days. Full of cute moments! Love love love.
As you can see on my rating, I love this book so much! Okay, I'll admit, I have a soft spot for uberly sweet and fluffy books especially when it has a shifting POV. Is that a bad thing?
But still, no book is perfect. There were things that irked me but I just ignored them. I was having a bad day and this book just helped me see rainbows so I'm not complaining. The fast-forward-kind-of-writing irked me though. The one moment we are doing this and the next we are doing that without details. I need details. I need the actual scene. The interactions with the minor characters were also not that quite explored. Ahem. Totally not complaining here. Hahaha!
Overall, Dawn and Perry hum together. The chemistry of their two leads give their writing performances justice. Surely looking forward to their next collaboration. So what are you waiting for? Grab a copy already, will you? :)
"But my stomach starts constricting because I MIGHT HAVE WANTED IT TO BE A DATE. I mean, what is that? Dates lead to commitment and commitment leads to temporary insanity and temporary insanity leads to full on mental illness—picking out china patterns, choosing museums to get married in—and ends with two fucked-in-the head sons and a dad trying to hold it together when he’s just as fucked-in-the-head as they are. So no, I definitely don’t want it to have been a date." - Dylan
SIGH-- Another masterpiece.. Everything a YA Novel needs.
The Story
Dylan has the "perfect" life. Nice car - A hummer, he calls it "Mary." An awesome best friend Paul. Good looks. Carefree attitude Smart- wants to be a lawyer No girlfriend, just hooks up. It's just him his dad and his brother Derrick against the world.
Ziah also has the "perfect" life. James is a loving and loyal safe boyfriend. Alyssa is the word best BFF Lora her older sister is awesome Caring and loving Mum and Dad Great grades - wants to be a doctor. Her life is on track.
Until a Halloween party Ziah attends with Alyssa and Paul.
That night Dylan and Ziah cross paths.
I see her. I'm going to blame it fully on the alcohol, because what else can it be- but I suddenly get a little dizzy. My breath speeds up. She has long blonde hair. Not super blonde, kind of dark blonde and big green eyes. She's curvy and I can't help but stare. I don't know who this girl is, but she's freaking gorgeous in a totally natural way. --- Dylan
My Ziah = Ashley Tisdale, just pretend she has green eyes. (I really did think she had them until I went looking for a photo.. whoops)
Wow, he has totally straight white teeth. And nice hair. Touchable black hair- all messy but still perfect. Then I let my eyes fall down. I open my mouth to speak, but I can't. He's hot. Like rich-boy mixed with hand-picked genetics or something. Muscular without being huge. I can't take in a deep breath. But then I do, and he smells... amazing. Like boy, but good. I'm seriously dizzy just from standing close to this guy. --- Ziah
Dylan aka Hot Party Guy actually ends up spilling beer all over Ziah aka Hanes and she gets majorly pissed. Her boyfriend Paul drives Alyssa home and Ziah heads to her Mum's restaurant still pissed. Dyl and Ziah still think about each other but that's it. Innocent really...
Until Derrick calls Dylan to tell him that he's getting MARRIED! Which freaks Dylan out "What about the pact? We always said it was the Gibson Boys. That we wouldn't let a girl come between us."
Fair to say Dylan is NOT HAPPY... and NOT ON BOARD with this! They haven't even met the girl before...
Ziah's sister Lora then tells her... THAT SHE'S GETTING MARRIED! What happened to all her lectures? School first, career second. Boys third. Always.
Ziah and Dylan are then forced together as Maid of Honor and Best man as well as wedding planners.
What happens next is a great YA story. Becoming friends, scheming, heartbreak, falling in love, working through abondonment issues, trust issues, miscommunication, great make out scenes, of course a huge fight then a HEA.
My thoughts....
LOVED IT! Jolene wrote Ziah's POV and Nyrae wrote Dylan's. The mixture of the 2 writers was fantastic. Quirky, witty and had their own spin on the POV's they were writing just made it blend awesomely!
The sweet scenes were sweet, giggles weren't forced, slang was real (teenagers swear) I think you guys should write something else together *HINT HINT!*
Characters...
I was really annoyed at Lora at the start of the story as she seemed like a really uncool sister who was too self involved to notice anything. Yes I know she was planning a wedding but clearly something was wrong with your sister!
and it really pissed me off that Alyssa and James were forgiven so easily. Bigger people than me, I wouldn't of. Plain and simple. You.BFF.does.not.do.that.ever!
Paul was awesome as Dylan's BFF. Could be serious or the comedic relief. this made me giggle “Why? Why couldn’t I see it before?” Paul shrugs. “I don’t know, man. Maybe it’s like Postpartum depression or something.” Looking at him, I shake my head. “That’s for pregnant chicks, you idiot. It’s post traumatic.” “That, too. Maybe you had both.
So all In all. I like this a lot. If you are a clean YA lover... then this is for you. --And on a personal note, this book made me feel like listening to Taylor Swift's "Mine" LOL --
Yay, this was so much fun and heartwarming and honest and real. Seriously, dozens of times I thought “buckle up, now it’s time for the DRAMA to start” but these characters acted like real, sane people would. Sure, both Ziah and Dylan have their flaws but they don’t react in this over-the-top kind of way that’s so typical for this genre. As I said, their reactions felt real and I could relate to both of them really well. I loved that I didn’t want to smash my head against the wall like I so often want to when reading these kind of books. I don’t know what else to say right now other than I loved, loved, loved this! Dizzy made me laugh, made me swoon and even made me cry a little. Just plain awesome and exactly what I was hoping for :)
Happy SQUEE!!! This book is SO dang cute, guys. Nyrae and Jolene rock the dual point of view so well - I love when they team together. DIZZY is adorable and hot and sweet and swoony.
<3 <3 Two of my favorite authors writing a book together?? WIN! As expected. I loved this book. It was sweet and romantic. Exactly what I needed :). I'm so glad it came out early.
Parts of this were cute, but for the most part a whole lot of nothing happened. I also found the whole plot surrounding the couple getting married odd. They're in college (sophomores or juniors, I can't remember) and get engaged and then decide to take a semester off to plan the wedding and get married. And all the parents are just fine with it. And there's no talk about where they'll live or how they'll support themselves - although the guy's family is super rich, so I guess he has a trust fund to take care of them? It just seemed really irresponsible to me. I think it would have made more sense if they had just graduated college. Anyways, this was another book that's been on my TBR for a long time and I'm glad to get it off the list.
LOVE THIS moment between Ziah and Dlyan: "My hand moves to her cheek and then my lips press against hers. I kiss her gently, as though she's breakable, when she's anything but. Then I grab her waist and pull us even closer than we were before. This kiss feels different than our others. She's definitely a voodoo girl. Maybe not angry, but she's cast a spell on me that makes me crazy and makes me want her more and more."
This is a cute quick read. Ziah and Dylan both are against falling in LOVE. They both have had something happened to them to make them feel jilted. Ziah first meets Dylan at a party he throws at his home. He's every girls dream. Automatically Ziah doesn't like him, or want to like him is more like it. He doesn't want to like Ziah either. However, every time these two look at each other they're over-come with the feeling of DIZZINESS.NOW ENTERS: Lora and Derrick. They meet at college. Oh guess what??? They just so happen to be siblings to Ziah and Dylan. So...Ziah's sister and Dylan's brother are getting married to each other and have decided to be their own wedding planners. Of course, they also decide to throw in Dylan and Ziah as their helpers against their own will. During this process Dylan and Ziah learn to like each other, become friends, over come their hatred of LOVE and weddings, and find happiness for themselves/with each other/and for their siblings.
What I liked about this book the most: 1. The building of a friendship to a bf/gf relationship between Ziah & Dylan 2. The dress shop scene between the guys and Ziah 3. The cake testing scene 4. The wedding invitation scene 5. Wise old Paul's words and friendship 6. Paul's flirtations with Ziah 7. The last kiss scene with Ziah and Dylan 8. Dylan saying: "Masta Dylan..." 9. Ziah & Dylan's first kiss 10. When Dylan is sweet, listens and comforts or gives advice to Ziah 11. When Dylan takes her a few places. Or when they are just relaxing with old movies at Ziah's 12. Derrick & Lora- their love and trust and respect for the other. Always making sure the other one is happy at their own cost
Two of my favorite parts/quotes: "Awkward silence, and then she reaches for me. Holy crap, she's going to kiss me! Mayday, mayday! I don't think I want her to kiss me. Her arms wrap around me, and it's totally a hug. I don't know if I'm glad or disappointed."
"Lora squeals like a five-year-old when she sees the donuts. She's like a Disney princess on crack."
So, I pretty much loved this book! Such a fun and cute read with the perfect amount of emotion!
Dylan and Derrick are brothers who grew up with their dad after their mom bolted when they were just kids. They decided then that they didn't need women in their lives. Thats until Derrick meets Lora in college and proposes. Dylan is not very excited. Neither is Lora's sister Ziah. Ziah and Dylan quickly realzie that they have met before at a party. Dylan is 'hot party guy' and Ziah is 'Hanes'. They are both pressured into helping plan the wedding. Together. I love the chemistry between Dylan and Ziah from the very beginning. There is definitely something there, but with Dylan's view of relationships and Ziah just breaking up with her bf, its complicated to say the least.
Dylan was the perfect book boy, of course! Masta Dylan knows his shit haha. He had some issues to overcome, but it all worked out. I really enjoyed Ziah's character as well. They were both really funny! I found myself laughing... a lot! Great read by two wonderful authors! Check it out!
A perfect chick flick romance with wedding drama ...
It kind of reminded me of that movie Ghosts of girlfriend's past , minus the ghosts ... lolz..
The story is quite predictable , yet you are pulled into wanting to see what 's going to happen next
Meet Dylan , the guy who doesn't believe in relationships , yet gets intrigued by the cute Ziah , he has the most charming smile & mesmerizing eyes, but there s more to him , he is quite an observer , makes her smile & is very thoughtful
Meet Ziah , just like her name she is too different than all the other girls Dylan has encounter with , she had this whole idea of safe harbor , but when things change , she no longer knows what is safe & how to deal with it. She is very cute & goes to party wearing white t-shirt & faded jeans.
Dylan has a problem with wedding. He , his brother & his dad made a pact , they won't let any girl come between them , so when his brother decides to marry & announces he is his best man, Dylan is freaked out
ANd when Ziah s whole break up thing crashes down , she has doubts with every wedding & so when her sister is back mid college , & announces her wedding , she is panicked..
So its a typical opposite attracts kinda thing that takes place , but you will enjoy with the whole bride's maid & best man thing happening , a bit chaos , a bit drama & lots of cute moments
This review along with all the buzzy stuff can be found on YA Fanatic
This book makes me soooo Dizzy with happiness.
Dammit book! Where were you all my life? Where were you when I was banging my head on the wall because I was tired of reading horrible characters who make romance=cheese? Where were you when I was a worn out traveller in disguise , in search of books that gave me that kind of lightiness that made me swoon senselessly? WHERE WERE YOU?
Before I start this review , I'm just going to have to warn you all.. This review is going to be LOADED. It's going to be loaded with lot's of gushing! With lot's of incoherent rambles! Lot's of neurotic ideas and lot's of dyiiiiing! You have been warned.
Let me tell you one thing straight. This book is a classic cliche. Serious cliche. IS CLICHED. It's the classic story of a boy who comes across a girl in a party where both of them see each other and think that the person before their eyes is a total beauty with all those colourful eyes and perfect bodies and god/goddess looks that beautiful people usually have. It's the same story where both the boy and girl have their issues and try to fight their obvious attraction. It's the same story where there's a lot of funny banter between both the protagonists. It's still the same story where there are lot's and lot's and LOT'S of gasps! blushes! Tingling sensory glands! Invasion of personal space! Urgent kisses! and yeah..the same exact thing.
BUT
WHATTHEHECK!
I don't care if I've read the same exact thing a thousand times and I certainly don't care if I'm enjoying every bit of it! What I want to do is scream out and do cartwheels. When I had come across Dizzy , I had known in my heart that I would like every bit of it. There is just something about those books....You know the types where you read the given synopsis of that particular book and you know that you're in love and that there is going to be nothing , as in , NOTHING between you and that book. That was the kind of feeling I had When I saw Dizzy. Dylan and Ziah the main protagonists of the book are such cool characters. Not once did I feel that their romance was forced or that I was supposed to like it. It just flowed and I like flowy things! I love those huge flowy skirts! I love the fountain outside my house! I love my flowy bright curtains! I FREAKING LOVE FLOW! and that is why I love you Dizzy.
Ziah and Dylan were the typical characters with relationship issues. And the fact that , that did not annoy me is epic in itself! Like for example, when you're reading a book about this guy and girl who are madly into each other but keep on denying their feelings and do super stupid things and all you , as a reader, feel like doing is PUNCHING THEM. It happens so many times. So many times have I wanted to kick my kindle and Ipad and So many times have I felt like flushing my paperback down the drain. But..So many times there are books which make me want to dance on Dancing Queen by ABBA. So many times I feel like dying of all that swoon. SO MANY TIMES!
Leaving the main protagonists , I think the other characters were fantastic as well! Lora's and Derrick's love story may have not come across totally to the readers , but there was just something about them that made me want to know their story as well. I loved Paul's character. He is again the typical guy-bestfriend. He is the person who plays the part of a party clown , funny tattle and of course , a flirt.
The way I've been up with my psychobabble it almost sounds like the book is perfect. But of course it isn't. It has it's flaw and not everything is as cut out as it seems to be but the awesomeness outweighs the crapiness anyday! The pace is so right...neither is it too long or too short. It's the perfect balance and no way in hell do we ever get a chance to get bored.
Ms.Jolene Perry and Nyrae Dawn have done a wonderful job by collaborating their works and putting in both their talents together. Although , I haven't read a single book by them before , this one here is incentive to keep me moving and just simply enjoy.
In the end, Dizzy is a fun , sweet , fast and an amazingly cute book with all the swoon and brightness a light read usually exhibits. For all those who want to enjoy a nice , short fun read , then this is where you need to go and knock.
I love a good romance with a swoony couple that makes me melt and the drama that comes with it. Dizzy by Nyrae Dawn and Jolene Perry had this down perfectly. They wrote one cute and lovable book that will surely touch the hearts of many.
We start off with two marvelous characters, Dylan and Ziah, who are brought together through the upcoming marriage of their siblings. Dylan and Ziah don’t have much in common and come from opposite worlds, but these two come together under unpleasant circumstances and without knowing how, these two fall for each other.
Dylan was a unique character whom I loved from the very start. From the outside, he looked like a rich, spoiled and arrogant guy. Hidden underneath those rough edges is a sweet, down to earth, funny and overall great guy. He was super hilarious and he made me smile and laugh out loud every chance he got. Dylan had trust issues when it came to women so he couldn't commit to one girl, but Dylan never led any girl on. He made sure they knew exactly what he wanted. I love how Dylan still found it in him to support his brother, even when he didn’t agree in the beginning. I understood Dylan and I completely connected with him and felt all the pain and betrayal he felt. I found Dylan to be one amazing guy even with all the issues he had with his parents and his brother’s wedding. Dylan was the type of guy you want to keep and never ever want to let go.
Ziah was character that made this book whole. Smart and intimidating with a powerful voice, Ziah was truly one force to be reckoned with. This girl can dish it out and she can stand on her own. She was a strong girl and she valued love and family as important things. What I loved about Ziah was her ability to forgive and embrace things and the people who did her wrong. Ziah may look tough on the outside, but she definitely had a fun and loving side I loved as well. I loved how she was relatable, reachable and believable as a character.
Nyrae Dawn and Jolene Perry’s writing was absolutely stunning. The writing is clean and well blended. They did a great job of developing the characters to point where I got to know them and feel what they were going through. Dylan and Ziah were set a part from each other and had unique voices that I knew exactly whose head I was in without looking. The drama and obstacles the characters had to face were real and true to the story as well. The overall pacing of the story was perfect where Dylan and Ziah’s relationship grew stronger each chapter. The romance was beautifully written, making my heart ache and swell and race at the same time. It was so easy to invest and wrap myself around the romance, it’s no wonder why I fell head over heels in love with this book. Best of all, Nyrae Dawn and Jolene Perry made sure to add in the snarky, clever, and humorous moments for a fun, fast, and easy read.
Dizzy is a must-have, must-read book for any contemporary, romance and book lovers out there!
Meh, I just wasn't that in to it. One thing that I don't like is when authors have it so one character has to tell the other one something and they're like, "Shh. Later." Or walking away from the convo, or whatever other tool to drag it out. I have never in my life - nor, I have ever known anyone who - heard the words, "We need to talk," or "I have to tell you," or "I wanted to say," and then brush it off and neither person bring it up again and this THING, for lack of a better word, never gets said - or is put off so long that I'd rather slit my wrists than read anything else that happens on the page.
Huh. Maybe it's just me. /shrugs. Maybe I'm just too nosy -slash- impatient -slash- OCD, but if someone says they have something to tell me (unless I'm sitting on the toilet and they're yelling through the door) I'm all ears.
I love Nyrae... And I'm not ashamed to admit that the reason why I picked up this book was because of Nyrae.
But then I got into the book, and I loved it all and knew Ms.Perry was gonna be getting some of my fangirl rants :D
This book was sweet... and the male POV was amazing. I swear I felt like I was a guy whenever I dip into Dylan's head :)
Love the subtle start of their connection. The push and pull... the constant pull and then the big push, only for that pull again and yh am tryna sound awesome as fk but blaaah
This book made me dizzy in love. And even though a few days has passed since I read it, just thinking about it is making me drunk.
LOVE the chemistry between the main characters. The idea of them bumping into each other and then later learning their older siblings are getting married is great. And the wedding planning is hilarious.
Ultimately, it was the chemistry once they fell in love that pushed it over the edge. *swoon*
I decided to buy Dizzy after reading some very good reviews praising the authors for such an awesome book! I love contemporary books and I thought this one was going to be a heart breaking, beautiful, breath taking story. I enjoyed Dizzy, although not as much as I thought I would. There was something about Dizzy that was lacking. Maybe it was the writing, maybe it was the characters or the plot, but whatever it was, affected my rating and thoughts on the book.
The Gibson boys made a pact after they were betrayed and left by their mother and wife: no girls. Girls were bad news. They got into your life, under your skin, and then left you high and dry. That explains why Dylan is so shocked (and pissed) when he finds out his brother, Derrick is getting married. MARRIED! The pact has been broken, but could it be for the better?
Ziah's sister, Lora has lectured Ziah about her motto: school first, career second and boys third. This is why Ziah is completely and utterly in shock when her mum informs her that Lora is, in fact, getting married. She hasn't even finished college for crying out loud! Maybe it's time for Ziah to lecture Lora the her motto. But when Ziah is roped into wedding planning with Lora's fiancées brother, she realises, after a while, that maybe Lora getting married isn't so bad after all.
Dizzy was such a cute contemporary romance novel! It was short and adorable and made me feel all gooey and smiley. I’ve never read a Jolene Perry book before, so I didn’t really know her style, but I enjoyed her chapters. I have read two Nyrae Dawn books before and they were so cute, so I was definitely looking forward to her chapters. Together, Dawn and Perry managed to write a very cute YA romance.
I’m not really sure how I felt about Ziah. She was strong sometimes, yet weak other times. She was honest with herself, and yet she denied her feelings, even to herself. I didn’t understand her! She wanted to be friends, then it was more than friends, then it was nothing at all. Ziah gave up and got embarrassed easily. She was a likable character, I suppose. I can see why people like her, sure, but I can definitely see where people didn’t like her. My opinions on her are kinda in the middle. Another “meh” character, I guess.
Dylan was a douche for the first part of the book, but he got better. He had a lot to deal with, and he didn’t necessarily deal with it well, but he tried. And I admired him for that. He also wasn’t too proud to admit that he liked Ziah, and I liked that. I’m not really sure if I liked Dylan that much, but I still liked him a bit.
Overall I thought Dizzy was a good book, it was just lacking in some unknown department!
Indeed - the whole book was a blast. It was a fast read, easy on the heart, and so just worth the time and effort you spent on reading. No reason to be dizzy because Ms. Dawn and Ms. Perry combined their writing talent to produce this amazing, amazing book.
Dylan (one of the Gibson Boys) was given the shock of his life when his brother suddenly announced that he was getting married. They promised each other that no girls would come between them both after their mother left them and never returned. Now, he was marrying the sister of the hot girl who crashed his party. I think he was dizzy what problem to prioritize: his brother's impending nuptials or the girl he couldn't get off his mind. Everything should be okay if he wasn't cynical with commitment and relationship.
Ziah - don't you just love her name? She's very driven and motivated to go to med school. Everything was in order in her life until she crashes a party and met this rich boy who annoys her for no reason, her boyfriend whom she think was safe just cheated on her with one person she trusted most and of course, her sister is going to get married just before she finishes college. With her heart (or ego) broken, her sister being busy with pre-wedding bliss, she's thrown with Dylan to help plan the wedding. What she didn't expect is that there's more to him than just the regular party boy. But can she make him fall in love with her when he's too oppose to the idea and notion of love? I so admire her ability to forgive and move on.
It is not just the both of them that makes this novel fantastic but the surrounding characters as well. Dylan's best friend Paul is simply the best. They both believe and adhere to their friendship's mantra bros before hoes . It was just nice to see boys being there for each other when one of them needed the other. It was sweet but not to the point that it was girly. You can still feel the testosterone in the air despite the scene.
Two heads are indeed better than one (but both can deliver really good novels individually anyway) Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this book and I'd recommend this to friends who'd like a sweet, short read about falling in love unexpectedly, letting go of the past and moving forward and friendship & forgiveness.
Combining my fave authors is never a bad thing. I love reading the swooning romance as well as the obstacle of learning to love and let go.
The plot of this book is emotional and very close to me. At a young age, my father walked out on my mom and my brothers. For a long time, I too did't trust guy. Not even my husband. I put him through hell our first years of marriage cause I was deathly afraid he would do exactly what my father did. Needless to say, I learned the hard way. Dylan, the main character is doing the same thing I did. Spurned by a mother who walked out on him, Dylan has vowed never to marry. Until, his brother does. I like that Dylan is very blunt with his emotions. He doesn't beat around the bush but says things exactly the way they are. He is so angry that he doesn't see the whole picture. It takes a while before Dylan is able to see what has been blocking his sight the entire time.
The love interest is definitely cute and enduring. Both characters thrown together with something they did not want to do, only brings me more joy in watching these two fight it out. Or should I say flirt it out? They bicker at each other, but you just know that there is something happening between the two. Little by the little, the fighting stops and friendships begins. They talk, share secrets and emotions that they never told anyone else. And of course, they fall in love slowly, letting the reader enjoy every moment of it.
Dizzy is a fantastic book that catches deep emotions. Filling and reliable, Dizzy is a nice romance that is easy to fall into.
This book is YA at what I would call its best: young innocent love, appropriate (age level) romance, honest hurt/misplaced anger at others due to being hurt.
Well-written and told from two points of view, Dizzy is about Dylan and Ziah, two young teens whose siblings are getting married. The problem: Dylan's brother, Derrick, So when Derrick and Lora wanted their siblings to help, Dylan felt completely at a loss. Ziah had recently
I thought that Dylan's feelings were portrayed as very realistic for someone who grew up So I found it very believable.
I also enjoyed the sweetness of both Dylan and Ziah as they
Recommendation: A good read for anyone around 13 and up. The reading level is not a challenge for adults, but it's still very easy to read and enjoyable.
Consider me one of these two wonderful authors biggest fans after reading this book. I have always loved Ms. Nyrae Dawn's books and this is by far the best book she has ever written. I would say the same to Ms. Jolene Perry, but I have never read any of her books before. Now I know what I have been missing. Dang! After witnessing this wonderful piece of work, we have an equation: Nyrae Dawn + Jolene Perry = A breathtaking, swoon-worthy book!
Let's start with one of the most important part of the book (in my opinion). The cover. To be honest, I was not very impressed with the cover. Take a good look at it! It was not that unattractive, I know. But it had no wow factor either. Seriously, what with the wall thing?
Well, people always say "Do not judge a book by its cover." Which is absolutely right in this case. Even I really didn't like the cover much, this book knocked the socks off me. And I didn't even wear socks. I had so much fun reading this book. I could not remember the last time a book has made me laugh this hard or smile this much. Both main characters, Dylan and Ziah, were so adorable and funny. When I read it, if I was not laughing, I was smiling. This book made me look like an idiot, and I love everything about it. Hmmm, except the cover, of course.
There are very few authors that are an automatic buy for me. Let me explain as you can see I buy and read a lot (emphasis on “Lot”) of books. So I have to be very judicious on which books I will actually spend money on every month. I think of it like a triage situation. I would buy them all but, tuition mortgage and the kid and husband insisting on groceries get in the way so for almost every book I buy I read the reviews and check availability from other resources etc before I buy. Some authors though I am so in love with their writing that I will buy their book the day it is released or as soon as I find out without waiting for reviews. Nyrae Dawn is one of those authors. I have bought and read everything. I have even gone back and bought personal copies of books I got for free. I have also purchased copies for the library where I work. That is how much I love her books. I am not going to lie and say everything is fantabulous although for me it pretty much is ‘casuse even her good is better than most people’s best. It is just my small way of showing her that someone will buy her work so please, please, wait did I say please keep writing. Oh by the way Yes loved Dizzy.
This is my third encounter with Nyrae Dawn's books after Charade and Freeing Carter. And now I'm sure that I will read her other books, it doesn't mean that I didn't think it before but I just love the way she wrote from boys POV. She can write sad-torture boy POV as good as silly-hilarious boy POV. Yet this is my first experience with Jolene Perry's books. I liked Ziah, she's a funny-confused-normal girl. I like when characters acted as normal as their supposed to be. It made them seems like real people. I think I will try to read her other books.
The story itself is quite interesting. While I can predict half of the story, it still surprises me with thing I didn't thought before. And I love Dylan and Ziah's banter, they so cute together I wish they have another story.
I really liked the Collaboration of Dawn and Perry in Out of Play and Dizzy doesn't dissapoint. It's actually cuter and sweeter than Out of Play. Totally your cute and fluffy fix- if in need of one. The duo also does smoldering hot and cool as well. The chemistry between the two MC's rocks! I did find their insecurities a bit annoying at times, all a bit cliche and quite predictable, but I also could not put the book down. Definitely a page turner. While I enjoyed this- honestly - I preferred Out of Play. It was nearly five stars for me! Which in my opinion shows that their collaboration is working, because while you can tell they enjoyed working together on both books- the second is better, deeper and more captivating.
It left me with a goofy grin and happy feeling. And I really hope the two of them will write more book together. They really rock!
