The death of Snow White's father has left her at the mercy of her stepmother Katarina. Katarina cares for one thing, and one thing only: herself.
Vain and arrogant, she sends Snow into the forest to be killed. Snow manages to escape and hide herself from the murderous Hugo. After wandering for days, lost and hungry, she stumbles upon Fableton, an enchanted village created by Katarina to entrap Prince Philip after he spurned her.
Philip has been unable to leave Fableton for half a millennium. Snow White just might be the one spoken of by a fairy who promised the day would come when a girl, pure of heart, would be able to break the curse and free the inhabitants of Fableton.
But is Philip willing to risk Snow's life to gain his freedom? Snow does the thing no one has ever been able to do before - leave the enchanted village. Her only hope of winning freedom for not only the residents of Fableton, but for herself as well, is to defeat the evil and powerful Katarina.
Cindy C Bennett was born and raised in beautiful Salt Lake City, growing up in the shadows of the majestic Rocky Mountains. She lives with two daughters, and three dogs. She also has two sons and two daughters-in-law. She volunteers her time working with teen girls between the ages of 12-18, all of whom she finds to be beautiful, fascinating creatures. When she’s not writing, reading or answering emails she can often times be found riding her Harley through the beautiful canyons near her home (yes, she rides a Harley and no, you'd never know it to look at her!).
I liked that there were different things from the original story, here.
Also, I really liked that besides being Kind and Beautiful, Snow was, also, Brave, Strong-willed and Hardworking.
I loved Prince Philip... he was Sweet and really troubled by everything that he went through. My heart broke for him.
Even the 'Evil Queen' was very well built, here. I liked how her character was thought of.
However, I would have liked this book to be longer and it's characters and world to be more developed.
The ending felt short. I was left with the feeling of wanting to read more... To know what was yet to come for these characters.
Still, this was a pretty good retelling of Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. So, I might take a look at some of the other books in this series... eventually.
This letter comes from a reviewer invested in giving constructive criticism, especially to the indie author variety. Your prose needs a lot of help, you started the first paragraph of your book repeating "she" at the beginning of the three sentences twice which made for a choppy and amateurish start.
I advise you to go and pick up the following authors, whose prose is brilliant, Alison Goodman , Julie Kagawa who also writes fantasy along the same vein as you, Rachel Hartman whose prose is excellent and Dan Wells . All this authors have wonderful prose and know how to give out minute details that truly make up a story.
Please know that this review has no malicious intent at all, I only wish to give you constructive criticism instead of being obnoxious and saying your book is "crap." I wished you the best of luck in your other projects and hope you succeed.
Signed,
A reviewer who understand the value of constructive feedback.
I enjoyed this short re-telling of Snow White. I didn’t realize, before reading it, the unique hook the author had in the beginning of the novel. And when I thought I had it figured out, she went in a different direction. Every change was better than my expectations. Bennett did a superb job balancing a more traditional Snow White with a more modern personification. Though I wished for a bit more from the denouement, I finished it promising myself to read more in the series.
By the end of the book, I did actually enjoy it, but the first half is choppy, slow going, and predictable. I wish it was longer, I feel if it was the character developement would have been better as well as the major events description wise. It seem rushed and not as climatic as one would like. I do feel it is written for a younger audience maybe JR High School age. The writing style seemed almost elementary and not what I had expected it to be. I was looking for something a little more in depth a higher quality of stroy telling. In that aspect this book was a real disappointment, How ever the plot was decent and it is a cute little love story as well. That is what saved the book in gthe end is the relationship between Snow and Phillip. Also the twist and new take on Phillip's character was great, it was nice to see it stray from the original version of Snow White in that aspect.
Snow white is taken from present day and forced into a cursed town where prophecy states she is the one to break the curse. The curse is caused when Phillip rebuffs the evil stepmother (Katerina). No one can leave Fabelron was they enter and can not go anywhere where they have not gone befopre unless someone first shows them the way. This does seems a lot like the series Once upon a Time and the similarites make you wonder about originality. Again if it wasn't for Philip's character the book would not be very creative.
If you like the Disney version of Snow White then you will love this book. I found it very ironic that the book ended with an author's note saying she wanted to tell this story but not the Disney version. Yet with few exceptions, this book was just an expansion of the movie. Down to the names of the Seven Dwarfs. Ok, I will give her credit for coming up with synonyms - Medic, Blithe, Grouchy, Dim, etc. The characters needed to be developed more as well as much of the plot. I felt like she had the story in her head but only some of it came out in print for me to read. It was very predictable and convenient. I was not impressed.
I really enjoyed this book but it really needed an epilogue. I say that in a lot of my reviews but I really mean it here. I love Cindy's books and have read most of them and loved them but there were a lot of hanging story lines. It ended nicely but did not conclude well. I love Snow and Phillip and I felt there love. I love The Seven and Channy but there was just something missing. I wanted a hint at what happened next.
I enjoyed this story of Snow, it was a good story with an enchanted forest and a blind Prince. With Snow the only one that can break the spell. I enjoyed the story but at times I felt like the story was slightly rushed especially at the end. With how the spell got broken and the way it just ended. It needed an epilogue so you could find out what happened next for everyone. Other than that it was a good story that I will read again. Xxx
I'm a huge sucker for fairy tale retellings/incorporations, especially the big named fairy tales like Snow White! I loved loved loved the version Ms. Bennett wrote for her story so I tip my hat to you!(; I recommend this to YA romance lovers who like fairy tale retellings (especially if you're a Snow White fan like me!).
(I read this as part of the "Enchanted Fairytales" collection, but for some reason it was not listed on Goodreads so I have to add each novella separately.)
This retelling wasn't my favorite in the collection -- the "cursed forest" part was a bit strange -- but a good underlying message about believing in yourself.
Fun, Clean, interesting. Great twist on the Snow White story. I will read more from this author. I'd let my teen daughter read this. I didn't LOVE it, but it was worth the read. A lot of things didn't seem they would really make those choices, and they didn't go into their decisions informed.
Relato bastante novedoso de la muy conocida historia de Blancanieves aunque tiene ciertos cambios lo esencial se mantiene y lo nuevo provoca que la historia sea refrescante y no tan obvia.
This is the second of Bennett's Enchanted Fairy Tales that I have read, and I have enjoyed both books. I like books where the main characters--except for the evil step-mother--are kind and loving, and I like books that end happily ever after. I want to read more of these fairy tales.
Snow was strong, even with her crappy luck. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed and open. Usually I don't mind that much, but in this case I wanted to see more conclusion.
I really enjoy reading this series, it's a new version of fairy tales with happy endings and like every book of Cindy Bennett is super cute, also the female character ends up being the hero so there's that.
I love fairy tales. I love when they take a normal fairy tale and totally change it up. This Snow white tale was great. Totally unexpected and lovely. I love it.
