Hugh Byrd, the cold, ambitious patriarch of Byrd's Creek, is used to getting what he wants. And what he wants is the Colton's prime land and the destruction of the Colton family. What he doesn't count on is his own daughter falling in love with Rafe Colton.
Ripped apart by the Civil War, the young couple must find a way to keep their secret love alive. The end of the War should mean a joyous reconciliation, but when Rafe is accused of a terrible crime, he runs away, leaving Livvie behind once again. Will this finally break their bond, or will their love survive?
A sweeping romance set in the South, Undaunted Love is a tale of faith, hope, patience and the redemption of God's love.
Born and raised in Rockledge, Florida, Jennings spent her early years reading anything she could get her hands on, when she wasn't spending time in and on the water. She won a prize in the 6th grade for her science fiction stories.
Jennings attended the University of the South and the University of Tampa, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science, and almost enough credits for B.A.s in both English and History. She spent time over the years doing various kinds of script doctoring, business writing, editing, and teaching writing, but mostly having and raising her family, homeschooling her children, owning and running a business with her husband, and starting a non-profit to Uganda.
Thanks to a crazy idea called NaNoWriMo Jennings got back into creative writing in 2011 and hasn't stopped since. She's written four novels and a screenplay in less than a year, with more ideas on the drawing board. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband, also a writer, and two children, and travels extensively.
I was itching for some historical fiction and came upon this book and it grabbed my attention. Civil War, love story - I thought hmmm sounds a bit like Gone with the Wind, why not? It's definitely a cleaner more Christian novel then I would typically read, but the underline history and love tale is pretty good. The author does an amazing job of entwining history with this love tale (not an always easy task to accomplish). It is a little slow at times, but this is one of those tales that you savor....
I won this ARC book from the author through Goodreads, first-reads giveaway. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this enduring, faithful, depending on God, love story that takes place in the 1860's just before, during and after the Civil War. Great character development and interaction between all the characters. Characters drawn together to give a helping hand when there is a need and to survive and others in complete conflict, self absorbed and for greed; makes for a very interesting, life affirming story for the reader. Recommend.

"Undaunted Love" by Jennings Wright was a good Christian historical romance read that was set in the backdrop of the 'Civil War.' So, be ready for a wonderful love story, 'Civil War,' along with corruptions and murder. This author did a good job as the novel is 'highly detailed' as the writer captured every moment of these couples journeys thorough their relationships. It was good to see how this author presented "Undaunted Love" with all the things going on 'they held their obligations to God and respectfully acknowledging him as head of their relationships.' The characters were all very well developed and many showed much faith in those trying times. If you are looking for a good rich rad with lost of twist and turns that will only give you a good read, I would recommend "Undaunted Love" to you.
The American civil war is not a period of history that I know much about so really enjoyed learning something about it from this book.
It tells the story of Olivia who falls for Rafe Colton when he rescues her family when a tree falls on the house. The problem is that her father just bought his farm-land for a derisory amount and would not approve of Rafe as a suitor and has someone else in mind for her.
When the civil war starts Rafe decides to volunteer for the confederate army and leave Olivia to keep their love secret!
This book shows how God is with us through the darkest times and is always there to forgive us when things go wrong.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I fell in love with this book, Undaunted Love by author Jennings Wright from the first paragraph to the very last word.
I started with angst toward Hugh Byrd to feelings of anger to betrayal to telling Mr. Byrd off all with in the very first chapter. As well as feelings of sorrow, love, and tears for the Colton family and Miss Livvie, (Mr. Byrd's daughter). Then to top it all off it:
Loved reading this story. Made life in the South during and after the war come alive. I'm from the South and heard stories handed down, well done characterizations. I fell in love with the good folks in this story. They mirror the people I grew up around!
A good, unassuming, fast-food love story. It doesn't have a lot of twists and turns but it is easy to read and you feel better about the world when you finish. If only all people were as perfect as the good folks in this story.
The writer hooked me right away with this story. It begins just prior to the civil war. Instead of the typical historical romance scenario with a female lead in distress, Wright starts off with young Rafe Colton in dire straits because his family land has been auctioned off and he’s lost it all. How will he survive? That kept me turning pages. The villain in this is his true love’s father who is already very wealthy but will stop at nothing to increase his holdings. Rafe falls in love with his daughter and the only means for support he can think of is to join the Confederate Army. They marry but keep it secret but their chance at happiness is thwarted when Rafe’s military orders keep him separated from his wife.
Though it has good characters, and great historical details (I learned a few things I didn’t know about injustices in the South during that time), I felt the book sagged due to plodding pacing and continual frustration caused by keeping the two main characters apart. I give it 3 out of 5 stars, mainly for this reason.
The story concept was good, guy and girl secretly fall in love, he leaves for the war, she's left behind to hope he returns. It also gave a tiny picture into how difficult it was for people to live during the period right after the Civil War. Families were torn apart and left with nothing and the male population drastically reduced.
There were some glaring errors that should have been corrected such as incorrect dates and using the wrong person's name and misspellings. I didn't find this under Christian romance but I understand it's classified as such which was surprising since the majority of the book was based on deceit.
The characters were just blah. There were too many villains, the H and h were apart way too long and plenty of weak females. Wouldn't recommend it.
This book was an interesting read. Not usually a book I would pick up but for those who enjoy romance, and war books will defiantly enjoy this one. I’m not a history buff so here and there I had to look up some things concerning the Civil War. Although there was limited speech, I enjoyed the personalities the characters portrayed. Especially for Rafe and Livvie, I was able to feel their sadness and their happiness.
This was a free download for kindle. Meh. The story itself was interesting enough for my vacation beach reading. However, the book needed a serious editing. There were many instances of subject/verb disagreement, along with other grammatical errors. The worst part, though, was that the author didn't seem to know her own characters. I lost count of how many times the wrong character name was used when clearly a different one was meant.
I got this book through the GoodReads First Reads. A story of love during the Civil War. The historical portion of the book was almost more interesting than the book. Everything that you can think of going wrong can go wrong. The story drug out a little too long. The characters were interesting and fairly well developed.
This book is alright. A few good suspenseful moments and romance but overall it was hard to get through all of the needless descriptions of war, everyday going ons and physical appearance of land and surroundings. I had to finish the book to find out how they worked out their secrets and where they ended up...... But it isn't a "must read" in my opinion.
This book is a nice love story. It has characters that you would root for and an interesting story line. The action moved a little slow, but I still think it's a sweet story. Really shows how love can overcome any obstacle.
Historical Civil War era romance. This is a Christian love story, I kept waiting for the "happy ending" There are twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I would definitely recommend this book to my 94 year old mother! :)
Such a wonderful story about never giving up on someone you love! Just felt there should have been more to the ending! But other than that it was a wonderful read! It will take you back in time and and make you feel good !
PG This book reminded me of Frazier's *Cold Mountain* - the H and h were forever apart! It had a much better ending, imo, than Cold Mountain, though. It was a clean read. Not the most romantic story. Heavy religious overtones that are sometimes distracting, but a good book, nevertheless.
This was quite a tale of patience, trust in God, love, and suspense. It does need a good proofreading, especially near the end, where mistakes were made in who said what. A well written book, though.
