Rylie's home has been turned into a battle zone by attacking hunters - and by her conflicted heart. Her wolf and human sides are in love with different men, and neither Seth nor Abel will give Rylie up without a fight.
To save her pack, Rylie will have to find out who Cain is. To save herself, she'll have to choose between the man she wants and the man she needs.
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.

This second installment in the Seasons of the Moon spinoff series, the Cain Chronicles, is another winner. It’s a short novella, picking up where New Moon Summer left off, but rehashing the ending, this time from Seth’s point of view. Of course, New Moon Summer left off with a huge cliffhanger, and truth be told, I was a little confused when I first began reading Blood Moon Harvest as I was expecting to be dropped right into the fray. As that didn’t happen, I was afraid, for just a moment, that I was reading the novella’s out of order. But, once I understood what S.M. Reine was doing concerning the points of view while allowing readers to remember exactly what happened at the end of New Moon Summer, it all made sense. And, I actually think Seth’s point of view is a lot more interesting than Rylie’s as we are able to see the beginning stages of true brother rivalry.
However, the rehash of the ending of New Moon Summer is a fairly quick affair, and we are truly thrust into the midst of the fray very quickly, with events unfolding in the blink of an eye. Blood Moon Harvest is, indeed, a fast-paced thriller. With the threat of Cain and his/her minions, the pack is on high alert, especially as things seem to go from bad to worse when issues arise within the pack itself.
It’s always so hard to write reviews for sequels and middle novels because they tend to pick up in medias res, and then end there, as well… so I’m really trying not to giveaway any details. Hence, my cryptic commenting about the action. I can’t say much more than what I’ve said without ruining things for potential readers, but rest assured, this is a great novella, especially as we learn more about the Alpha mating rituals and the divide between brothers seems to magnify.
Holy crumb. When things start happening, they REALLY start happening here. The pull Rylie's animal side feels toward Abel is kind of killing me. As much as I used to dislike Abel, I find myself rooting for him more and more as the story goes on. I have confusion, guys. CONFUSION.
This installment changes the pack dynamic in ways that could have big impact down the line, brings back someone I never thought we'd see again, and introduces an intriguing familial component that will likely rain down blood and terror before this is through. Hmmph. Family. They always hit the hardest, don't they?
Reine employs the love triangle, but also does what is rarely written: she makes the triangle make sense. It's not that she has opposite guys, the yin and yang, the darkness and brooding vs. and light and optimism (which, ew, is often ascribed to physical features to show characteristics that can feel low-key racist). No, she has brothers whose personalities are similar, though one is more aggressive than the other, and pits them together. One, Rylie's boyfriend and a werewolf hunter. The other, a werewolf and her helpmate with the pack. Rylie's confusion about the brothers becomes the reader's confusion in a totally immersive way.
For anyone who doesn't know, you can buy the first four novellas of this series as one e-book on Amazon and basically get a novel. The series was originally published as four separate novellas before moving on to Darkmoon, the 5th book, which is novel length.
Another great book in the Cain Series, it will leave you guessing as you see how their lives change as they all handle what it is to come. You won’t be able to put it down.
61 pages… that’s it, just 61 short sweet pages, but oh what was packed into those pages. Yikes!
I’ve made it no secret that I’ve read this series of books totally out of order. Well, not the individual books within each series, just the order of the grouped series. That’s one of the reasons why these books have ended up on my Seriously Series list for 2014. I not only want to catch up, I NEED to catch up. Although I totally regret not finishing the Seasons of the Moon books before I started the Ascent series, I am thoroughly enjoying my trip back into this world. Well, enjoying isn’t exactly the word I’m looking for. S.M. Reine isn’t exactly kind to her characters. They are pretty much tortured by each other or themselves in some way on every single page. *sigh*
Blood Moon Harvest started about where New Moon Summer left off…. but not exactly. The last few pages of the previous book are given in Seth’s perspective. It threw me for a minute, but it only took me a couple of paragraphs to catch up. From that moment on there was total chaos. Emotional and physical chaos for everyone. It doesn’t take long to discover that Cain is a force to be reckoned with, there’s still a lot that even the werewolves don’t know about themselves and some things just can’t be fought. There are jaw dropping revelations, mysterious characters, unexpected alliances and characters that just won’t stay gone. This is one series that doesn’t let you stop to catch your breath.
There’s a lot more to come and I’m super thankful that I started this series late (regardless of the order) because the cliff hangers in this set of novellas are brutal. Even knowing where things are ultimately headed doesn’t make it any easier. I’m glad I have the first 4 books in a collection so I don’t have to wait to pick up Moon of the Terrible.
Each book is short but so very sweet. I just loved every moment of this book. It was one surprising thing after another.
Things get very interesting right from the beginning Seth’s proposal to Abel getting shot soon after. Everything around Rylie is getting worse and it doesn’t help that they still don’t know who Cain is. Rylie captures the one who had shot Abel and they try to question her. They wanted to get more information but she escapes during the time of the new moon when Rylie was to busy trying to escape from Abel who was out of control. It’s the next day that Rylie finally realizes who her wolf side wants and that causes her to split not knowing what to do.
It’s the endings of this book that make me want to read each book right away. It’s just that good and that good of a cliff hanger. I really can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens with our characters and I can’t wait to read what some people’s ideas that could happen in the book.
Talk about action packed and an emotional roller coaster ride, with a wedding proposal and Abel getting shot. It must be hard for Seth living with the fact that Abel is in love with his girlfriend. It is strange how torn I about about the brothers, I love the fact that Seth wants to marry her despite the fact she is a werewolf and her wolf is drawn to his brother. Abel is such an underdog and he shares so much with Rylie, he is snarky and loveable so it is a hard call, no wonder she is confused. A new player is in town and the stakes just got higher. As for where it left off WTF, that is so not a good place to leave it and how many times can someone reappear at the worst possible moment? I should ration this book out more but I consumed this instalment as usual and now I have to wait for the next one.
In the second book or story or part of this series and the werewolfs are getting ready to move, Abel has been shot and has silver poisoning and Seth is patrolling with the order guarding the ranch until the move. During the change Able is wild due to the poisoning and fights Rylie to see who will be alpha. Rylie go off together while Abel and the others move. Rylie is conflicted. She loves Seth but also has deep feeling for Abel. The problems Rylie is trying to work out plus an unexpected twist at the end will have the reader saying, please hurry up with part 3 so we can see what happens next.
This book is once again way too short but it does follow on nicely from the first book in this series.
Rylie is growing up and that is not always easy, especially when you have an inner wolf that may choose someone different to you! This is now taking on a supernatural twist with demons and zombies but so far it is still interesting.
I'm not quite sure why these have been written as separate books rather than just chapters in one book but the writing itself is still of excellent quality.

I read this right after the first one and I can't wait for the next one. I like how the author is allowing her readers to voice their opinions and maybe have an input on what happens next in the story. I also really like the way she has done werewolves, the way they change is not like other books I've read. I love the fact that I'm not having to wade through teen angst to get to the story, the characters are intriguing and the plot well paced.
I wish I could give this book a 4.5 star rating. There were a few slow parts, but this boom was much better than the first book of the series. There was much more action and dialog that took place. On top of it all, the cliff hanger at the end was amazing! I don't want to go into too much detail because I don't want to spoil the book. But I will say one more thing. I do recommend everyone to read this book. Go ahead and enjoy.
Okay this is too short! I need more, but I don't know if I'm willing to pay more than a buck for such a short novella. I feel like all these little books could be put together in a few full-length novels instead, but eh-
Riley gets even more reasons for having to choose between the brothers, and we get another teaser of a possibly HUGE twist! So good. Again, I just wish the books weren't so short.
This is the second book in the ‘Seasons of the Moon’ series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story continues from where it left off last time, with Seth’s return and moves forward via other characters to the next climax involving Seth and Rylie. Can’t wait to read the next part to find out who Cain and Pagan really are. 4 stars.
This was another really quick one. I am really loving the Abel/Riley storyline much more than I am loving the Seth/Riley storyline. Usually I don't really like love triangles, but I'm biting my nails reading about this one. More hotness, please!
Rylie, Seth and Abel have a love triangle going on. the wolf in Rylie picked Abel. the human picked Seth. what is she going to do. now Rylie and Seth or on a hunt for Cain. what can go wrong.....surprise....mommy's alive
Blood Moon Harvest by S.M. Reine is the second episode in the Cain Chronicles. The groundwork was laid in book 1, so book 2 is very exciting and action packed. I really enjoy how these characters have grown together.
Another short, but good installment of the Cain Chronicles. I liked that we got a bit more of Seth's perspective in this one. Some crazy stuff going on and I'm hoping we hear more from Abel in the next book!
Heartbreaking. Unfair. Why?!. Honest. Not everything that feels right is good for you, vice versa. Hmmmp...
"Pastilan bigaon maning wolf ni Rylie oui! dominance wins. Sighs, lesson and moral learned. Ayaw einduno imong uyab sa laing tao, brother, friend or whoever.
Shit just got weird but I love the chemistry between Riley and Abel. I don't really care for Seth anymore and I can't believe that a certain someone is back in this story!
I was hooked from the 1st series, page so had to go back to finish those, page so certain things would make more sense! Can't wait for the new installments! S.M.Twine does not disappoint!
This book just keeps getting more interesting. We have went from werewolves to demons to now possibly zombies. I figure I will be purchasing the next 3 books very soon.....
