The police don’t take a stripper gone missing too seriously, so Aaron Stevens must investigate his sister’s disappearance himself.
As he uncovers connections between a series of brutal murders that have Toronto police baffled, Aaron gets too close to the truth and finds himself targeted by a billionaire who doesn’t care how many people have to die to keep his secret hidden.
With unlimited resources, The Specter eliminates anyone who dares threaten his empire. Aaron’s amateur sleuthing and martial arts expertise shouldn’t present any problems, but when money and power do battle against family ties and passion, all the rules go out the window.

This book was great! I loved that I kept turning each page wondering what was going to happen next... It kept me on my toes and I didn't want to put it down! Great writing!
This book was a little too "out there" for me. An exotic dancer and some of her co-workers disappear, and the police aren't too interested. Her martial artist brother, who's out on bail for attempted murder, decides to investigate the case on his own. He runs into a billionaire murderer who has hired assassins on speed dial. He somehow avoids all of the people sent to kill him while solving his sister's case with the help of a few friends. The multiple fights and scrapes with death apparently aren't enough to have his bail revoked. Just a bit strangely thrown together.
A good story about Aaron Stevens and his first Dojo. Even though he sold it his students are the ones that prove to be invaluable. They come to his aid when he needs them and he realizes that they are his new family. I enjoyed it as there weren’t too many characters and the story grabbed me from the beginning. 5
Aaron Stevens will never stop looking for answers as to why his sister was murdered. Along the way he almost loses his own life. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
What a way to introduce a new character. O love the whole concept. I love the way Jonas Saul writes. He captures and holds you attention from beginning to end. Once you start reading it's unputdownable. If that's even a word.
"The Specter" by Jonas Saul is an entertaining and fast paced thriller about the brother of a missing stripper trying to solve the crime. During his investigations he soon realises that he is up against a billionaire with no morals but unlimited funds. I enjoyed the story for its fast pace and I applaud the author for his great talent in story telling the. The plot and the narrative unfold nicely, there are some colourful characters in the book and there is plenty of action to keep you turning those pages. There were a few moments where I felt the over-the-top style of some of the scenes did not work so well in this David versus Goliath tale but that did not distract me from enjoying the book. What I did feel was that Saul has got a very creative and imaginative mind and I am looking forward to seeing more of his work in the future.
I wish I had read this book sooner so I could be reading more books by Jonas Saul. It's was an excellent mystery/thriller and kept you guessing what was going to happen to poor Aaron right up to the ending. His sister sends him a message with a few cryptic words that make him try to find out where she went. The police don't want to help so Aaron starts investigating on his own. He recruits from friends from his dojo and the action picks up. this is one of those books where the next chapter takes off and there is very little descriptive material but you don't need it. You just need to hang on and keep reading. I was awake until 2 a.m. Finishing it. Now I have the pleasure of reading some of Mr. Saul's later books. Great story.
The Specter kept me interested from beginning to end. I love Jonas Saul's lively and adventurous themes. The dichotomy between Arron Steven's world and the Specter's, however, made it seem too unrealistic. A person doesn't just go from Toronto Canada to Greece without passports or transportation without any explanation! The inner goodness and morality of Jonas Saul's characters, in contrast with a cruel, cruel world will keep me reading his books. His style of writing is very comfortable for me.
The book started off a bit choppy for me, as it kinda just jumped right into the "middle" it would seem of the issue. I settled down with it however and it read very well after that. I loved Aaron's character and his dogged determination to find the truth and his sister. The storyline flowed, only bogging down here and there, but never enough to take away from the adventure being followed.
This is a really good, well written edge of your seat thriller. It kept me riveted to the story and continue to turn the pages. I just had to see what was happening next.
In a nutshell, Aaron Stevens is the one guy that you don't want to cross. Unfortunately, for a few, they soon find out how unhealthy that can be.
this story has more gaps and holes than Swiss cheese. the story is unbelievable. very poor storyline. people are moved around like stick figures. no real plot that is believable. would not recommend this book to anyone. Will not read any other books by this author.
This book had me hooked since the opening chapter. The book had a really strong protagonist. A very exciting and suspenseful read! I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. Well written characters. I won an ARC copy.
