Truestrike's Treachery

Rate this book
Finally settled into Accord, Sean’s work had barely begun. The plan was to take away Lord Truestrike’s powerbase, then move against him, with Hallie working to strengthen their ties with the nobility. Sean knew better than to get involved with that side of things, knowing he’d just say the wrong things to the wrong people.

While Hallie worked on alliances, Sean focused on healing, bringing the conflict with Truestrike to the fore— the Lord tried to use his influence to push Sean out of the healing guild. The attempt failed spectacularly, as not only was Sean not thrown out, he ended with the majority of the guild siding with him.

Having the healers behind him helped Sean do more. Truestrike’s plots to injure the city guard kept being thwarted, and with the healers on his side, Sean was able to save the majors being targeted. His actions in stopping every attempt to destabilize the guards earned him goodwill with Commander Queensblood.

Beyond helping the guard, Sean also enforced a broken Agreement, bringing him before Advisor Mackenzie Earthfoot. He was meant to explain why he’d cost a noble his hand, but Sean did what he always he proved his innocence by helping someone. Giving Mackenzie her foot back put her into debt to him, giving him powerful allies just as the gala began.

The gala was a night of politics. Sean healed those his friends brought him to and tried to not react when he finally met Truestrike. The conflict that happened wasn’t with Lord Truestrike, but his daughter, Trisha. After asking Sean for a dance, the Dame accused Sean of killing Darragh back in Oakwood, then shoved him and stormed off the dance floor.

With the gala over, Sean wondered what was going to happen next. He’d made more allies, been recognized before all of society by the Advisor, and his clash with Truestrike was known. The only thing he was sure of was that the Queens would learn about him, and now, his time was running out before they came to Accord.

Book 10! It is hard to write reviews for series that go on this long. I don't think I have ever read and liked 9 books in a series and then didn't like the 10th book. By now everyone should know what they are getting into. This one ties up a few loose ends. There is a final confrontation with Truestrike which sets up something to happen with the queens pretty soon. I really enjoy this series. I just wonder how many more books there will be.

Not bad if you skim over the filler material
This book took me two weeks to read ( after in sat in my "to be read" pile for nearly a year) Everything in the world distracted me from reading this thing.
So, here's a question. Have you ever been grocery shopping with your mom and she runs into someone she knows and they stand there talking for-effing-ever? Remember how your mind glazes over, your legs start to ache, you want to go home Or to lay down on the linoleum and go to sleep?
-Parts of this book are like that.
If you can get around, or get over those parts it's fine.

Very clearly a wrap up.

This is tying up loose ends to prepare for the finish. No major surprises and just a lot of the same old same old.

We're now on book ten and the end is almost in sight. It took me a couple of starts and stops before I finally finished the book.

Every author has their own style and way of telling a story, but as time goes on and I get older I find that certain styles aren't working for me like they did when I was younger. I like most of this author's work (the latest series excluded -- that one didn't work for me) but the happy, lovey dovy, harem style of writing didn't bring my heartrate up. The build up to the final fight takes seemingly forever, and honestly I didn't think there was much in the way of treachery from Truestrike.

I know I'm grumbling. Maybe book eleven will pull me back into the fold. Or maybe this will be like William Arand where I just can't keep up with the multiple story arcs going on (I haven't read one of his books in years now). I wish the author the best. 4/5*

The story continues, with the same pacing, we finally get more interaction with Truestrike and see how truly corrupt he is. As always Sean finds a way, and his pantheon keepsdeveloping. Hope some of the souls in his plane get a 'role' there like guards or defenders. The foreshadowing in this one is a little thick as well.

Book Review: Truestrike’s Treachery (Binding Words #10) by Daniel Schinhofen

Reviewed by Kiba Snowpaw – Alpha wolf, frostbitten soul, harem-lit survivor, and connoisseur of emotional chaos

Introduction:
Alright, let’s tear into the meat of it. Truestrike’s Treachery is book ten in Daniel Schinhofen’s epic harem-fantasy series Binding Words, dropped in May 2023 and self-published like most of his work. If you’ve followed Sean MacDougall from mortal bar-brawler to godling, healer, and reluctant harem lord, this volume is the one where major loose ends start to finally get tied off. Genre tags: Fantasy, Harem, Magic, Dragons, Fae, Adult. If you’re not deep in the series by now, you’ll want to circle back before jumping in. The claws are out, and the politics are colder than a northern blizzard.

Plot Summary:
The saga continues with Sean finally settled in Accord, but peace is for pups. The real work is all about dismantling Lord Truestrike’s powerbase, surviving assassination attempts, and navigating the poisonous politics of the noble class. Hallie, Sean’s mate and political operator, hustles to build alliances while Sean sticks to what he knows: healing, helping, and bashing skulls (metaphorically… mostly). As Truestrike’s schemes escalate, Sean cements alliances, foils plots, and faces political showdowns—including a gala where tensions erupt and old wounds are ripped open. The stakes are higher, the enemies deadlier, and the threat of the Fae Queens looms large as the next arc approaches.

The Author:
Daniel Schinhofen is a beast in the indie LitRPG and harem-lit dens. Since 2016, he’s put out a howling pack of series (Alpha World, Luck’s Voice, Aether’s Revival), all mixing world-hopping, slice-of-life, and spicy relationship drama. Schinhofen is best known for deep, consistent world-building, a relentless release schedule, and the rare skill of making slice-of-life and epic struggle feel like two sides of the same paw. No big-name awards—just raw grind and a loyal horde of readers.

Characters:
By book ten, the cast is a full wolfpack—Sean at the center, surrounded by a veritable pride of bonded lovers, friends, rivals, and magical entities. Sean himself? Still a reluctant leader, powerful but plagued by his “I’m just a guy” humility and a streak of self-doubt that makes you wanna smack some sense into him. Hallie’s a standout—her political cunning is as sharp as any blade. Sean’s wives and allies each get their moments, though, honestly, the cast is so sprawling now that some only get a few scraps of narrative meat. Truestrike finally steps from shadow-puppeteer to main-stage villain, but even he is more tool than terror—Schinhofen prefers nuance to moustache-twirling evil.

Structure:
This is classic Schinhofen structure: slow burn, daily life, stacks of meals and family moments, then BAM!—political drama and magical conflict. The pacing is steady but occasionally glacial (pun intended), with some arcs feeling padded by minutiae (who’s making tea, who’s getting healed, who’s blushing at breakfast) before the inevitable payoff. No wild timeline jumps; each book slides into the next without time skips, so you always know where the story’s paws landed last.

Themes & Analysis:
At its core, Truestrike’s Treachery is about the struggle between found family and the brutality of power. Sean’s journey is less about becoming a king and more about protecting those in his den—sometimes at the cost of his own peace. There’s the usual LitRPG-flavored “level up through struggle” vibe, but the real motif is the tension between forging bonds (romantic, magical, familial) and the political minefield they create. It’s also a meditation on trauma—how healing others doesn’t mean you’re healed yourself. Oh, and loyalty: Sean’s greatest weapon is never magic, but the trust and love he inspires.

Scenes (Romance, Harem, Erotica):
By book ten, the spicy scenes have mostly faded to black—there’s a lot more emotional connection and playful teasing than graphic detail. The harem dynamic is now mostly about trust, family, and partnership. Yes, the MC’s poly situation is a constant theme (who’s in the “inner circle,” how do new bonds change the pack), but if you’re here for smut, this volume is tamer than an omega on a leash.

World-Building:
If you love rich, interconnected fantasy worlds, this is comfort food. Accord feels alive with intrigue, and Schinhofen’s magic system—binding agreements, magical contracts, healing arts, even pocket dimensions—remains consistent and robust. The social hierarchy, from nobility to guilds to divine entities, has real weight. You get the sense that every background character has a story (even if you’ll never hear it). Few indie authors keep their lore this tight across ten books.

Praise & Critique:
What Schinhofen nails: Consistent, satisfying world-building; complex relationship webs; steady character growth (at least for the core crew); meaningful payoffs for long-running arcs; and a warm, slice-of-life atmosphere between the stormy drama.
What drags like a frozen tail: Filler material (too much breakfast, too many “who’s watching the shop?” moments), dialogue that sometimes circles itself, and a cast so big that only the boldest get proper screen time. The villain arc wraps up, but without the teeth you might expect from ten books of setup.

Comparison:
Compared to earlier Binding Words volumes, Truestrike’s Treachery is tighter, less smutty, more politically charged, and far more focused on closing long-standing threads. If you dig Aether’s Revival or Luck’s Voice, you’ll see familiar Schinhofen strengths—just with less leveling, more maneuvering, and a cast that’s twice as large. If you came for “slice-of-life in fantasy,” this is still your den. If you want non-stop action, maybe keep hunting elsewhere.

Personal Evaluation:
From the frosted peaks of HowlStrom to the plush carpets of Accord, this book kept my inner wolf conflicted—engaged by the emotional heart, sometimes frustrated by the meandering filler. Schinhofen’s signature is cozy fantasy with a bite: deep bonds, earned victories, and the message that strength is in the pack, not the lone wolf. Was I confused by all the side-plots and endless cups of tea? Sometimes, yeah. Did the emotional moments and loyalty arcs make me want to run with the pack anyway? Absolutely.

Conclusion:
Truestrike’s Treachery is a solid, heartfelt, sometimes meandering, but always rewarding installment in Schinhofen’s epic harem-lit saga. If you’ve made it to book ten, you’re already family—settle in for a story that wraps up big arcs, strengthens old bonds, and leaves you howling for more. I’d recommend it for any fantasy or LitRPG reader who values world-building, character over action, and a big, messy, loving pack over lone-hero antics.

Rating: 4/5 — If you want your fantasy family-sized, with extra magic and a dash of wholesome drama, this one delivers. Just be ready for a bit of snow-blindness from all the filler, and keep your claws sharp for book eleven.

This is one of my fave series

Great book, l read it in 2 sittings. Love it.

The action is engaging and follows logical rules, even with magic so it doesnt feel like a cheat. There is enough action, but l also appreciate the effort it takes to level up to be ready for when martial action must be taken. Thats called preparation, not just relying on pulling miracles out of your rectum.

I think that what I love most about this series is the details of everyday activities. Breakfast, going off to work - crafting or healing, sparring, bath time then dinner. Sean does many little things that show how loves his family and friends. Yet, they gently tease him and make him blush, but always show affection for each other. Lots of balance there.

I have to say that I take a perverse pleasure when those who have sinned against the godling find themselves in the bog. (Too bad our politicians arent there in the bog too, those f***s sure deserve it.) All told I have read almost all of the author's works and this is my fave, though I really enjoy Aethers revival as a close second. Looking forward to reading more of his excellent writing.

Spoiler alert: I love the characters and the plot which took 10 books to get to this point where the puppet master has received his reward and now the MC, Sean and his family must only face the queens, oh yes and the Norse gods. LOL! I hope that we will get a chance to have Mizuki Mooncaller's deadly skills called upon, just cause it would be a waste not to since the reveal.

I hope more things are built.

The protagonist protests way too damn much about people calling him Lord. It's getting annoying.

So the protagonist needs

The starting chapters are a slog. The dialogue is absolutely horrendous. The author really fails at this love thing he is trying to sell.

Oh look. James' name is popping up regularly again, and how "he would know". I'm certain that James will come across to the world and impregnate the protagonist, because show the protagonist goes on about this guy, they aren't just friends. This is beyond the pale behaviour.

This book is getting more cringey than normal. Why does the majority of the book have to be about them discussing what to eat, who will be in the shop or the bog with him, and who wants what jewelry, and why do they take up so many chapters?

I'm finished, and while I would want to give this two stars for the abundance of dialogue and cringe scenes of "true love", the story was entertaining (after the halfway mark). It also didn't end on a cliffhanger. So I will give this three stars, and hope the author continues to do better next time.

P.S. I'm sure James will be here to have the protagonist gush over him soon.

excellent continuation of the story

Allow me to say if you have come this far in reading this series Why would you stop now!!! A nice plus for this series is all the books continue where last book ends. No great leaps in timeline or storytelling. Story has progressed and built upon each book in the series. My slight complaint which is my own fault is I can’t recall what was said about the Huntsman in the pervious books. I can recall it was an accident but not the details of how it all occurred. I would have enjoyed a recap of that story again - cut and paste from previous writing would have been great. Oh woe is me I will have do some reading again of previous books - no hardship at all.
Great addition to the series in this book. The only sad part is the wait for the next book. The very positive part is Daniel Schinhofen regularly puts out books. He does have multiple series right now and adds to each. I am sure will get into another series since his style of writing is enjoyable.

End of a villain

More good work from Daniel Schinhofen
The hero foils the nefarious schemes of the villain who has been pulling strings from behind the scenes from the first book.
The final confrontation was suitably epic with a good twist to challenge my expectations. My one complaint is the author is slightly lacking in character motivation. Why did so many minions of the villain follow his plans, such as a Greater Vampire who can compel others? Each of the hero's wives has a distinguishing characteristic but lacks the "screentime" to flesh out their characters in this book. That is alleviated if one bothers to go back and read previous books in the series, but, personally, I would prefer a smaller cast of love interests. Overall a positive read that I recommend to anyone who wants more politics to their haremlit

A Tragic Comic Story

This is one of the best books in the series. It includes the familiar playfulness of the other books with a touching depth of sentiment that Schinhofen achieves in his best work. He has an almost unique ability to write a series where the main character can have godlike powers and face enemies so strong that they don’t seem overpowered in context. He has enough unexpected plot twists to make the book dramatic right up to the end. I will greatly look forward to the next book though with all the things that are resolved in this one I think the series may be drawing to a close

I hate Harem books, But I love this one.

Daniel Schinhofen is an excellent writer, and a great person. So I picked up harem lit when I was running out of reading material in my preferred genres. Go figure, the series I found was Alpha World. My favorite book by Daniel is on "hiatus" and I make it a point to mention how excellent "Greenways Goblins" is everytime I review his books.

That being said, this series is absolutely brilliant, and I hope he has as much fun writing it as I know all of his fans do reading it. This one is the most "cliff hangered" of all of them, and that's okay.

I might have read a lot of this on patreon but when the book comes out I always read it as fast as I can and it always always lives up to what I'm expecting some parts are slow but once it gets going it actually picks up speed and takes off like a rocket if you're looking for a great series to read start with book one of binding words and read all the others because you will fall in love with this series

Lovely Slice of Life

I want to be able to recommend this book to people who enjoy A good story fantasy powers and sorcery and Monsters This book is good on it's marriage for being a good story the problem is true the main character is really a simp. I mean he is a little godling but he hasn't been in his divinity enough to be able to shape reality or to take Vengeance on those who have wrong him. Over all the story is good but it's not a book I would come back to later and read over again or even once or twice now this is the 1 time read through.

Couldn’t stop mesmerized

Another amazing read in the Binding Words Saga. Very much enjoyed reading this installment of the series. Was hit by surprise after surprise in the duel. Looking forward to the next one. One of the things I like most about this is that the MC isn’t infallible. Even though he’s a deity, things still go out of hand. You see too many instances where the MC in some stories just has everything line up perfectly for them. Keep up the AMAZING work you’re doing!!

I would say the title says it all. Truestrike's arc comes to a head in this volume. Sean works to help and heal and make friends like always. He gets a surprising ally and works to handle Truestrike's various plans. There are some emotional moments that may have OnionNinjas come around.

Overall, this series has been entertaining. I believe the author has stated there is one more volume before this series wraps. I will be sad to see it go out of rotation, but look forward to whatever new series takes its place.

A real page turner!

Once I started reading this entry in the saga I could hardly put it down.

This story arc has come to an end. Once again it is a wonderful mix of slice of life as well as story progression. Rather than introducing new concepts and characters, we continue to focus on the world we already have and expand on the stories that are already present. As the book continued on, I found myself less and less able to stop reading. It was a wonderful and emotional end and I can only wonder what will happen next and when it will happen.

My Rating System:
5- Perfect for my taste, I could not physically stop reading/listening and wanted more afterward.
4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterward.
3- I enjoyed the book and could see others loving it, I need to think if I want more.
2- I can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more.
1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for, but definitely not for me).

Amazing

What an absolutely great addition to the story. This is probably my favorite book of the series so far. I had thought this would be the final book in the series, and I'm torn as to how I feel about finding out it's not. I love that there will be at least one more. I hate that it will be months more before the next one. It's the wait that kills me. But also I love having more to look forward to. I can't wait for the audible. Lol, hurry with book 11, please .

Another great book

Daniel focuses a lot on the emotional side of the story more than any other author I have read. I think he must enjoy sharing the feelings of his characters with his readers while still providing an interesting and action filled story. The sex scenes are no longer present in the story as it is now all fade to black or a vague insinuation of deed having occurred previously. Great storytelling as usual from this author.

10th book in a wonderful series series. Read the series from the beginning.

Sean, & his family and friends, continues to try for the right to live and work without hassle. He makes new friends (and enemies), creates new products to help ease his wives lives and generally continues to confound his enemies and their plans.
Great series based on the Celtic mythos of the Tuatha pantheon: the Morrigan and the rest.

This story is suddenly handing out rapid resolutions (for what they are worth), which makes you wonder why we spent 5 books getting out of Hearthglen. It is a mystery. All I know is that despite my dislike of Sean and the dynamics of his "family", I've stuck it out to read 10 of these books, and if this series ends with James as the Huntsman and consort to the Queens, I will disparage this series and this author until the end of time.

The only complaint I have on this is that #11 is not ready yet. I just found this series and I started on 1 and just finished #10...hurry with # 11. I've read "Luck's Voice " a couple of times, but which series should I start now??? By the way, is #11 done yet? I am just getting into this Litpr (whatever) genre, and it's not too bad. What other authors of similar style would someone recommend? I'm do enjoy Urban Fantasy (The Demon Accords series rocks). Have I asked if #11 is done yet?

Simply incredible

Well book 10 was amazing. The action adventure and surprises kept me reading late into the night. I enjoyed this book so much! There were multiple twits, and turns, up to and after the final battle with Truestrike. I'm anxiously waiting for the next book. If you haven't started this series DO SO! You will not regret your decision.

What a journey

Like others in the series this book was impossible to put down so if you haven't read them you have a vivid world waiting to be discovered. Not only are the
characters vivid but it's hard to second guess where the story will go next. I enjoyed it and I hope you will too.

Penultimate Narrative

Sean and family dismantle Truestrike's prestige, remove his pawns, and expose his cowardice. Then the titular treachery occurs, and a resolution.
It's not a happy volume, but it is well written and well paced. It also feels like the next to last entry of this series.
Recommended.

Damn. Didn't even think about the names double meaning

That was not what I expected, but a decent end to the conflict even if it wasn't a happy story. I gave to imagine the series will end soon and while I'm not looking forward to it, this has definitely been an emotionally twisting series.
