Heidi Lester flees her home, determined to prove to her overprotective parents she can conquer her debilitating asthma, to make a life of her own. However, her unscrupulous fiancé has no intention of letting her go. He has his own plans for Heidi and her inheritance.
Will a scheme to ruin Michael’s family force Heidi to marry her fiancé, or will assistance arrive from a surprising source to allow her to be with the man she truly loves?
My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.
I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.
I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.
Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.
Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com
Wow... I am really making up for lost time here, huh? I had a hard time putting down "A Prescription for Love". It would have been a super read, however, the heroine came across as rather emotionally weak / whinny / cry babyish. Once again, I preferred the hero (which is a switch for me), Michael. Sure, he experienced personal trauma, but he was eventually able to open his heart, and love again.
Heidi was the heroine. I know it's the 1800s, but dammit, you can still have a backbone, Heidi. And if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation, communicate! Most problems can be solved through communication. And let that be a lesson for all of us... be in 100 years ago, or during the here and now.
It was also kinda strange, for the time period, at least, that a betrothed woman was dating another man... not to mention the "bad guy" was so over the top bad... but I digress.
Overall, "A Prescription for Love" was a fun and definitely different romance. I am looking forward to starting "A Chance to Love Again" in a couple of hours. Gotta pace myself :)
Gotta love a wallflower who FINALLY grabs the horns of her life & throws her head back, giggling as she takes her life for one HADES of a ride!
Michael Henderson is a hero surrounded my females, but he was trained by them! He is a self made man of business with his pharmacy degree & now he needs a new employee ASAP! In stumbles Heidi Lester, who is a runaway daughter from her smothering parents. Heidi has asthma & her parents have even picked out her fiancé, who will marry her in NAME ONLY! Heidi & Michael begin to be too close 24/7 & soon toe curling kisses & roaming hands make their hearts CRAVE MORE! But soon her parents arrive & check-in at the local hotel, her dastardly fiancé arrives weekly via train, a greed mistress making trouble & Michael's meddling sister & aunt aim cupid's arrow his way to put their budding romance into a happily ever after or peril!
I am a MEGA sized Callie Hutton fan, but I will be honest & state that I don't like Heidi because she has a wallflower with no spine at all! I almost didn't finish it, but after Chapter 2 I was Heidi's MEGA FAN! When she pulled on her BIG GIRL UNDIES, nothing was beyond her reach & she had to FIGHT for her way! Michael was a yummy hero, who I could tell was raised by females, because he always put others before him! That was until he was willing to fight to the bitter end for his Heidi. Ms. Hutton sprinkled this romance with twists & turns thought her plot & sometimes went places I never thought she could get the h/h together again! The American Western Historical romances are new to me & Ms. Hutton writes a amazing Regency romance, but she has blown me away with her Oklahoma Lovers series & I can wait to read each member of the Henderson's clan finding their mate! Ms. Hutton gets my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for this unexpected, bumpy, left then right & hilarious rollercoaster ride of a romance!
I enjoyed this novel as much as I enjoyed Angel in the Mail, my top 2 for this author. Hunter and Rachel is still left so I hope the author writes more books in this series. My only annoyance is Michael gave up too easily when Heidi was adamant to marry Clarence. He should have known better but the comedy at the end was fun
This is the second installment in the Oklahoma Lovers Series and such a delightful story. The dream of leaving overprotective parents, a despicable chosen fiancee and finding independence. The story of Michael and Heidi was so heartwarming; the characters are bold, humorous, joyful and caring. Don't miss an enjoyable story!
Michael is determined not to marry since being betrayed by his fiancée years ago. Heidi has run away from overprotective parents and a fiancé she really can’t stand. Michael gives her a job in his pharmacy though he’s not sure why. She has asthma that has never been treated. When she suffers an attack Michael shows her how to control it. Things get complicated when her fiancé and her parents show up in town.
An enjoyable American historical romance. Well developed characters in a pleasant and entertaining storyline. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I look forward to reading more.
I truly liked this book with Michael learning to trust again when it comes to women. Heidi haha been sickly all of her life and learns how to stand up for herself.
Would love an epilogue of what happened to Clarence and how the 2nd wedding planning went but definitely a lovely story. Was grinning ear to ear at the end!
Michael was my favorite of Tori's charges so I am glad that I was able to read his story. Heidi was so sheltered and smothered by her parents that I am surprised that she had the courage to run away in the first place but every person had their limits. It was wonderful how Michael encouraged her to make her own choices and taught her how to manage her asthma.
Mrs.Lester is the character who stole my heart. She watched how her parents marriage worked and followed the same path. She allowed her husband to make all of the decisions for 30 years although she wasn't always in agreement. Heidi's courage to make her own way in the world really opened her eyes. Mrs. Lester saw her daughter blossom under Micheal's care and encouragement and realized the error of her ways. She really impressed me when she wouldn't let the matter rest when Heidi naively, tried to sacrifice herself for Michael's happiness.
Her love for her daughter and her unborn grandchild really made this story!
One thing that bothered me about this series is the premarital sex because it happens in more than one book in the series. Sex was handled in a very contemporary way when this is supposed to be a historical romance series. Historically, women and their illegitimate children were treated abominably so I did not find it too believable that so many characters were so willing to throw away their reputations with very little thought or anxiety.
Entertaining and uncomplicated. However I was oddly distracted by frequent references to the heroine, Heidi, licking her dry lips and then a few references to nervous sweat on the upper lip at different times for both main characters. It was an extra detail that I think could have been left out. But anyway, it's an easy, predictable, entertaining read. Just what I wanted. I may seek out more of this author's work.
Great romance that hooked me from the first page. I read and enjoyed A Run For Love and love that the author went on to write stories about the grown children from the first book. Even readers who don't know normally like romance will love these sweet books!
Another in the Oklahoma Lovers series. Overall, an enjoyable read. I got a little frustrated with the heroine. She starts off timid and learns to stand strong by the end of the story.
