First of all, fantasy/mythology is not my normal genre, but I have now read several fantasy books, and I am starting to appreciate if not enjoy this genre. When I review this genre, I apply many of the same techniques as I do when reviewing my favorite genres. But understand that if you do not agree with my review, it may be that I am still learning to appreciate and enjoy this genre.
That being said, I found this to be an interesting fantasy. I am somewhat familiar with Greek mythology, so it was nice to see names that I recognized from literature I had studied in high school. When I read about the author's love for literature, I was certainly not surprised! The unique way in which she wove together the various myths certainly kept me guessing. Perhaps it was the mythology that caused me to enjoy this book more than the usual fantasy book.
Now to the story. I was never once bored--that is truly saying something. I often find passages in fantasy books that cause me to yawn, but not so with this book! It was action-packed without including graphic violence. I enjoyed Theseus and Ari from the beginning of the story--always nice to like the hero and heroine! In fact, they were so good that there is no way they could have lived--so much the better for this kind of story!
The book in itself is quite tame and often rather sweet. There is little to no profanity--I don't remember there being any, but there might have been a word here and there. I could have done without the two bedroom scenes, but that is just a personal thing for me. I prefer less detail in the bedroom. On the other hand, it was nice to see a strong, independent woman in mythology who enjoyed the "act" of marriage!
If you like fantasy and romance, I would say this would be the book for you. I found it quite enjoyable, and I would be open to reading more books by this author!
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
First I have to say that I love Mythology.I love the Greek stories that tell such an intense story that it grips you right from the beginning and keeps you reading until the end. The Gods never cease to amaze me with there form of punishment and how they live their lives.
Mything you is about a Princess who does everything right in her fathers eyes. She wants to please him and does what he says without second guessing anything. Princess Ari sets out to meet her groom when she is attacked by bandits. She is saved by Thesus who happens upon the attack. Thesus is in route to find his father King Aegeus. Princess Ari decides that she will follow Thesus on his quest to find his father in Athens instead of going to meet her groom.
What Princess Ari did not count on was that being with Thesus would change her world. She is seeing things in a new light and she is experiencing life for the first time and she is falling for Thesus. Will Princess Ari give up her privileged life to be with Thesus or will she go back to her groom and her simple life?
Read this book to find out because what happens will surprise you!
I really liked this book. I have always like Greek mythology books. This was a nice story using characters from those. It was nice to read how the Minotaur, King Midas, King Minos, King Aegeus, Prince Theseus, Princess Ariadne(Ari) and Medea. It is mostly a love story between Theseus and Ari, but it has quite an adventure story in it too. I do notice a lot of spelling errors in my copy of the book. It was not unbearable. It just made me doubnlecheck what I read.
A nice book. There were a few issues, but I still enjoyed reading Mything You.
I really like Greek mythology so retellings appeal to me, which is why I was excited to read this book. But, I didn't like how the book was a conglomeration of several myths. I think it should have just stuck with the myth of Theseus and Ariadne. Instead, we had that myth mixed with Midas, Hercules, Amazons, a bit a back story for the Trojan war, and a sprinkle of the Perseus myth. It was just too much at once. This book would have been completely excellent if it had stuck to a single myth. And, I'm pretty sure Theseus was the son of Poseidon, so I would have seen that at least mentioned, if not extensively incorporated. It's a pretty big part of the myth. My other major issue is that the language was far too modern. Considering that this was set in Ancient Greece, I think that language should have been reflective of that. There were too many modern slang terms and teenage speak that didn't fit into the setting.
Now to the better parts.
Theseus was a great hero. Most of the book was from his perspective, so he was the main protagonist. He truly earned the term "hero." He was brave, strong, and determined to do what was right. Not to mention how handsome he was.
Ari was okay, though not as great as Theseus. She was described as strong, but I would have liked to have seen more of that. Most of the book was of her getting into danger and Theseus having to save her. She was fine, but by no means a great heroine.
The plot was fast paced. There was constant action to keep things thrilling. The ending was left a little open, so I'm wondering if there will be a sequel. But, if not, it tied everything up well with happily ever after.

You all know by now how much I love mythology. I took all of the mythology courses my college offered and I have read the myths on my own, so I really enjoy reading interpretations and retellings of classic myths. Mything You is a retelling of Theseus and the Minotaur. And it is really well done. But what I really liked about it was that Greta Buckle very masterfully worked other myths into the story. I loved that, and it worked so well. The story of Mything You is well written and well told. If you like mythology, or even if you don't like mythology you should read this book.
Theseus and Ari are the main characters of the story and I thought they were adorable! I couldn't get enough of them. Ari is a spitfire. I loved how independent she is. It's a trait that you didn't see all that much in some myths. I loved how Greta portrayed her. It worked really well with the story. Normally when books have a hero and heroine, I am more drawn to the hero. But here Ari was so well done and so darn likeable that I ended up liking her more! Don't get me wrong, Theseus is a great hero and I really enjoyed him as well but there is just something about how strong Ari was that I gravitated towards.
Mything You is a very quick read. I gave myself a "quick study break" to start reading this book, and I got so wrapped up in the book and I ended up reading it in one shot. There was always something going on that made me need to turn the next page. Lot's of action and conflicts and romance to keep me wanting more and more. Mything you is a mythology re-telling done right! I loved how true it was to the back story of the classic myths, but in a modern and completely relate able way. I was really impressed with Greta's writing style. I thought it was engaging and really interesting.
Greek mythology, Romance, Adventure. Meeting up with an all time favorite of mine Hercules. Kevin Sorbo the perfect candidate for the role that made this mythology story an every day household name. Then there was Xena, who can forget that lady, Lucy Lawless with her companion. Fearless, skilled with every weapon known. And who can forget in Gerard Butler in 300, perfect in the role, or Brad Pitt in Helen of Troy and the new released Thor. These were awesome hunks and ladies that made the old Greek myths legends in their own right. Just love the stories and hardly ever miss a series or movie.
Greta Buckle bring in new characters to enhance the well known tale of Midas and the golden touch. With Hercules in his protective role and the Amazon women who tries to abduct Ariadne. The female main character in the book MyThing You. The rest of my review will be available on my blog on the 12/07. Enter to win you copy
Mything You was a great romance book based on Ancient Greek mythology. It takes in myths such as the Minotaur of Crete and King Midas and his Midas touch. We see even more famous/infamous historical figures such as Agamemnon, Theseus, Hercules, Hippolyta, The Oracle of Delphi and King Aegeus. I loved the incorporation of these ancient myths and ancient history. I liked the story and the characters. Theseus and Ari are two incredible characters that you fall in love with while they are falling in love. I also, enjoyed the accurate depiction of ancient traditions and how the views of women, poor people and rich people and men differ from today’s more progressive views. I think Greta Buckle did a terrific job of incorporating history and romance. She thrusts us right into Ancient Greece and makes you not want to leave until you meet a hero of your own. I recommend this for anyone interested in a good romance with a little myth thrown in.
I've never really read anything that included mythology. But I loved how Greta included so many different myths and legends surrounding her characters. It was a fun read. There were several moments when I was like "Oh, no, what's next for these two?" LOL. I feel like she threw everything at them. Well, maybe not the kitchen sink but I am sure we would've gotten to that.
Greta does a good character arc, and the reader is able to see the characters develop and change with the story. I really enjoyed watching Ari come into herself and learn more about what she could do. She had elements of the Amazons, but also some of the more domestic females in the world. Perhaps Greta will spin another tale featuring these two and more happenings with the Amazons. It would definitely be worth checking out.
I recommend this book to those that enjoy mythology based books, and lovers of romance. It's a quick read and enjoyable.
Theseus leaves home to seek fame and acceptance by his father, the King of Athens. Along the road, he encounters and rescues a damsel in distress who turns out to be the daughter of King Midas. Ari is on her way to wed a foreign prince, but unknown to her, he’s been killed and she is meant to be prey for the nasty Minotaur. Various adventures follow Ari and Theseus, who fall in love but are unable to be together. Monsters, legends, Greek heroes, labyrinths, sea voyages—this story has it all. Mything You is a fast-paced romantic fantasy adventure that will have you cheering for the main characters to be together. It has all the ingredients for a breezy, fast read with a strong heroine and a caring hero who lives up to his heritage.
Mything You is a retelling of an abundance of Greek legends, first and foremost being Theseus and the Minotaur. Intermingled with the story is King Midas, the Amazons, Hercules, the misfortunes of Thebes plus a couple of others that I've probably forgotten to mention.
This is a quick read but is full of action and adventure and will draw you in. Theseus and Ari are wonderful characters that complement each other perfectly.
Perfect for any fans of Greek Mythology but as there is a steamy section in there, probably best for Adult fans of Greek Mythology 😁

Does any author say horrid things about their own book? I love this book. I have this whole other world in my head and Greek myths and bible stories about giants and strange creatures fascinate me. And I realized I never saw the book or movie tell the story the way I would. Theseus and ari are great heroes. In my sequel they will reappear as I reimagine the myths to suit how I always viewed them. Hope you enjoy as I learn this site. I am so new here I am overwhelmed
Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks? The action starts from the very beginning and keeps you engaged in the story until the very end. I enjoyed Theseus as a character. He was a true gentleman. Ari was quite the little damsel in distress through a lot of the story, but she strengthened more and more as the story progressed.
"Mything You" is full of romance, suspense, emotion, adventure, and a quick lesson in Greek mythology. Greta pens her characters well thought out, strong, accurate and lovable in this easy read. Highly recommended for all romance, mythology lovers.
