Welcome to the quiet town of Harrow, a picturesque community found in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. To the outside world, this charming little town was a dreamland vacation spot.
UNTIL SORROW FELL UPON IT...
Hidden deep within the Harrowing Hills is a secret pathway to the realm of mist and darkness—an unsanctified land where a dark enemy seeks to destroy everything in existence.
NOW ALL MAY BE LOST...
What can this normally-sleepy village harbor that could not only devour this close-knit community, but the universe itself?
Eric Henson is an American author renowned for his supernatural horror and dark fantasy fiction. His work seamlessly weaves together elements of theology, mythology, science, and psychology, creating a rich tapestry of intricate and thought-provoking narratives.
Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Eric Henson spent most of his life in New England before eventually settling in the Atlanta, Georgia area. He is a proud member of both the Horror Writers Association and International Thriller Writers.
Henson has dyslexia, a learning disability that affects reading, speaking, and spelling abilities. Despite this challenge, he has persevered, hoping to inspire others facing similar obstacles to never give up on their dreams.
The sequence of events from Thailand (next time there is a tsunami somewhere in the world you’ll stop and rethink the cause of it) to New England, characters battling their personal and real demons and the pairing of scientific and religious elements all add up to tell a terrifying and unique tale set in a small town of Harrow, New Hampshire.
The author did a great job getting to the essence of what scares us. No one wants to be dinner for the horrible looking monster with big teeth or be alone in a dark, strange place. But the evil lurking in Harrowing Hills taunts and preys on Mr. Henson’s character’s (and our own) true fears and vulnerabilities – skeletons from the past, dealing with the devastating loss of a loved one and disappearing children.
I see another reviewer dove into the plot so I won’t repeat it here but I will say the deliciously creepy ending had me wishing the sequel was an arm reach away and I could close Harrow Book I and begin Book II.
This die hard horror fan highly recommends this book.
An interesting concept, Henson blends the spiritual with the scientific in this first installment of what promises to be a huge story. Complex and far reaching, this story takes place on several plains at once, but Henson manages to navigate the various settings pretty smoothly. The world he creates is cinematic-bright -- there were times while I read it that I could perfectly picture the way the scene would be shot in the movie-version -- and the action sequences are mostly clean with very little confusion. It's a good first attempt -- certainly better than a few I've read-- and I'm definitely interested in seeing where this goes next.
