Penthouse Suite: A Loveswept Classic Romance

Rate this book
A tight-laced businessman learns to listen to his heart—not just his head—when a free-spirited beauty turns his orderly life upside down.

Sporting only a towel and a startled grimace, hotel owner Max Sorenson isn’t sure what to make of the cheerful, freckle-faced woman who somehow manages to make plumbers coveralls look so unbelievably sexy. Even with a wrench in her hand, it takes him a while to understand that she’s the hotel’s new handyman. Mostly because he can’t take his eyes off those perfect, kissable lips.

Kate Weston came prepared to fix a leak, not start a fire, but Max does funny things to her body. A woman devoted to carefree adventure, she believes in living—and loving—without strings. Max has enough reasons not to get close, his private demons see to that. But what starts as spontaneous combustion quickly begins to feel like much more. Desire proves opposites attract. But will love find a way to keep them together?

"You want to stay here, in the employees' quarters? Wouldn't you be a little out of place?"
"If you're here, it will be the Taj Mahal."

"So, I'll break another pipe. You can rewire the refrigerator. But I'm not letting you go."
"Well, I'm scheduled for a fifteen-minute coffee break. Do you have any coffee, Max?"
"Coffee? I'm dying here from wanting to kiss you, and you want coffee?"

"What have you done to me, Kate? I've just spent days in meetings where I didn't hear half of the discussion. My appointment book is blank. I haven't even set up my weekly schedule. When I walk through the lobby, every woman I see is you. And you've got me mopping bathrooms, giving baths to birds, watching old movies."

"Ah, Kate. You've bewitched me. You've turned me into a weak-kneed, bald-headed Samson, and I'm caught up in your spell. What are we going to do?"
"Max, as long as the rest of you works, we'll buy a wig."

**I enjoyed it so I thought I'd throw in some moments that had me grinning.

Sigh. So Penthouse Suite was republished this year, and I received a copy through Netgalley. I did not know this was an old book but I thought it was still so good, so fun, so sweet. Just proves to show that romance is not dead and love will stand the test of time (Chos).

I liked it! I admired both the characters, Kate and Max. Kate's nature of wanting a great adventure and denial to be tied down shifted when the hotel owner got under her skin (figuratively), as was with Max. They seem to be good for each other and I can't help the entertaining wit and be amused by their comical banter. Although complication towards the end was a bit absurd, it was fairly predictable. But really, it was a short read that managed to let me stay up all night and put a smile on my face before I went to bed.

Hotel magnate hero, stand in maintenance girl/part time gypsy heroine, matchmaking/interfering wheelchair bound aunt. Plenty of leaky pipes and perky nipples, voyeuristic ogling of nakedness via mirrors and the like

The version I read has a copyright 1990. There is a modernish feel (heroine in overalls doing manual work + angst-free and frequent sex) however the story, set up, costuming and scene setting felt vintage or retro. Unlike the vintage/retro I love there is no allure of angst/heroine in peril/inability to communicate tropiness.

Three wonderings - can a canary be sucked up into a vacuum cleaner and survive? Can beach sex just after lotion application with no towel to lie on be anything other than hazardous/exfoliating? Can a man’s swim togs be alluring when “wearing nothing but a swimsuit, he looked like a candidate for Playgirl centrefold. The suit was little more than a small triangle of black satin with a snip of rope to hold it on. It left nothing to the imagination. Didn’t the man believe in clothes.” Is this trying for role reversal as she’s in the overalls and he’s in skimpy satin/macrame? Just felt silly and not what a hotel owner would wear in a public lift on the way to the hotel pool. Was it written at when the Chippendales etc were the thing? Anyways - thongs in lifts is a no go.

Cute in parts, I just didn’t get drawn in to the story. Not really a page turner and just a bit ‘meh’ for this Sunday afternoon. New author to me, I would give her other books a go.

Two persons who could not be opposed and that are in some way can complete each other.
Max was the rich kid who had his childhood stolen by a mother addicted and ended up killing herself.
Kate never knew her father, a wealthy man who took advantage of her mother and left. But she had a childhood and adolescence quiet until her mother fell ill and she took the last six years caring for her. Lesson learned? Not attach to anyone. Live your life as a great adventure. And that's exactly what she decided to do until fate brought her to the luxurious master suite hotel "La Casa del Sol" and did come across a wonderful man, wrapped only in towels, complaining that his shower dripped.

The attraction started as a fire - despite both always end up wet by some accident. Neither thought to engage seriously, both had their reasons for not trusting someone of the opposite sex. But the chemistry between them was perfect, and also the help of Max's aunt, who was the greatest pleasure in helping her nephew out of his "shell".

But more than that live in different worlds - he lived in a penthouse, while she was living traveling the country in an old chevy - corporate espionage and strong disappointments could ruin their relationship. And only using empathy and trying to understand the other's point of view, they would be able to plan to save for the future ...

Again I loved Sandra Chastain's book.
Her story is light, but it has content.
The characters engage the reader from the first page. With dynamic dialogues and a sense of humor.
Loved Aunt Dorothea and her "shot" about lemons and lemonade.
The description of the landscape is like a dream, and you can see that the author is a fan of old movies, saying some of their titles and actors.
The cover is sexy, like the book, but I wouldn't classify it as a strong erotic, just sexy.

The pace of the story is great.
Positive point: the dialogue, the characters. Laughs a lot in various scenes.
Negative point: the book is small. I would love to read a bit more ...
Super recommend to my friends.

This book tell the story of Kate took up a job as a plumber in Max’s hotel and was called to the penthouse to repair a shower head. Unbeknown to Max that his hotel plumber is a women, he was half naked when Kate arrived. Their attraction was mutual; yet they tried to hide it from each other. Enter an old lady, Dorothea who is Max’s aunt living at the hotel. She is determine to match make both Max and Kate together. Max have been a serious businessmen, holding fast to the rules that he set and doesn’t seems to enjoy life. Kate, on the other hand, feels free for the first time after tying herself down to taking care of her mother and since her demise, she vowed to see the world on her own adventure and have never stayed in a place for more than 3 months. Therefore, the chances of them being together seems to be nil.

I like Kate and Max especially the time that they spent together. Unlike other romance book with male character being the strong character, Kate seems to be playing the role what with her ability to repair and restore things while Max, realising his lacking, decided to learn up as well. As a reader, I get to see the carefree Max and happy Kate. This book is a fun book to read with a sweet romance story in it.

This was a great book with some awesome characters.

Kate and Max brings out the best in each other and they are complete opposites. Max aunt is a crafty woman that knows how to get her way. When you have her matchmaking skills you better watch out because nothing will ever be the same.

Kate loves the Braves and they are my favorite baseball team and when I hear about that in a story it makes me have a connection. Max is a guy that just doesn't know how to take it easy and have any fun. Kate is doing something that I wish I could do. Just to travel all over the world and have different adventures. She is a jack of all trades.

This was the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed the way she brought out her characters and the story that she weaved around them. The book was filled with excitement and adventure. I had some really good laughs as I was reading this and I can't wait to read more books by this author.

I would recommend that everyone read this is you want a book with romance, adventure, and laughs.

My favourite quotes from the book?
She sighed and lifted her hand to run it along the edge of his lip. "You want to stay here, in the employees quarters? Wouldn't you be a little out of place?"
"If you're here, it will be the Taj Mahal.

"Ah, Kate. You've bewitched me. You've turned me into a weak-kneed, bald-headed Samson, and I'm caught up in your spell. What are we going to do?"
"Max, as long as the rest of you works, we'll buy a wig."

This book has been republished and given a swanky new cover.

Kate seems to have taken more of the take charge male role whilst Matthew was given more of a following female role.

A nice story for someone who doesn't want to use any brain power to relax.

Penthouse Suite by Sandra Chastain is a very fun and sexy read.

After her mother’s long illness Kate Weston has no wish of going the whole way with anything. She is an expert in everything to do with manual labor, but she didn’t want to finish any of her learning courses. Now after he mother’s death she just wants to travel while traveling and doing odd jobs here and there.

Max Sorenson is known as a very successful but businessman. But that does not mean that he is not very serious and very private about anything personal. He is used to just giving orders and his employees obeying him. Read More...

When I requested this in netgalley, I didn't realized this was a republished book. But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every bit of the story. You see, I've been reading a lot of erotic books lately and felt the need to read something different and refreshing. ^_^

I can't really say anything other than the characters are likeable specially Kate. She's a plumber and can repair any car. She has a strong character here, more so than our hero. lol. I like my hero taking charge of the relationship but in this story it's a bit different. ^_^

I recommend this if you're in the mood for light fun romance!

I loved this book!! It's a great twist on the normal "handyman" falls in love with wealthy hotel owner. Its wide range of characters are just alot of fun! And the silly scenes are really nice too!
My favorite character is Aunt Dorothea- she is just such a trip! I like how she always manages to manipulate things to her advantage but to make everyone happy. Its just a really fun read and the imagery is so good that i could visulize what was happening as i read.
I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to more Sandra Chastain novels!

Very cute book, although I would have liked to see Max's character more masculine. Everything about him was attractive but he took on the female role in the relationship. I guess it depends on what you like but me personally I like a little more take charge guy. I did like that Kate was a stronger type of woman and could carry her weight with any man physically. It was a fun read and I would recommend this book as an easy read for times when you really don't want to think to hard.

While this is a well written book, it is unambitious. An everyday plot with common characters.

The Hero and heroine are likable but their love story was predictable. The love scenes were sweet, not sexy, but some readers prefer the less graphic style of writing.

This is strictly a light romance novel and if you are looking for a short unchallenging read I can recommend it.

Penthouse Suite by Sandra Chastain

Kate Weston, a maintenance woman in the hotel.....

Max Sorrenson, The owner of the La Casa del Sol.....

Neither of them expected it to happen. A leaky shower, a man in a towel, that is where it all started. The banter between the two was great. I really liked the story. Kate was a woman who knew how to fix anything from a car to the plumbing. And Max was spellbound from the beginning.

Completely predictable. Mostly unbelievable. Almost - but not quite - boring.

I had a lot of trouble with the main characters in this book. I had a hard time believing that a very well-educated millionaire would look twice at an uneducated plumber. It just didn't ring true, and that ruined it for me.

This was an okay read, but not one that would be on my list to recommend to others.

I was left unsatisfied with this as there was never an acceptable (to me) back story to both central characters. While I admire a heroine that can fend for herself (in a "man's" job, no less), her desire to spread her wings was quickly turned to a desire to belong to Max. A needed her to have a little bit more of a stand for her wishes...

A little out-dated but sweet. Update the points of reference for pop culture - no-one wants to fantasise about Sly Stallone or Chuck Norris these days!!!
