Kristabel Reed lives on the East Coast and loves to explore the steamier side of historical romance. "There are so many sexy situations that didn't just pop up in the 21st century and my goal is to burst the myth of the prim and proper debutante."

She loves romances but historical ménages particularly which add an element of danger and discovery not seen in contemporaries. Historically speaking, unusual romantic connections put lives on the line-people were ostracized and some even put to the death.

She loves reading, watching old movies, and anything Cary Grant. And is always interested in talking about erotic romance, so drop her a line: kristabelreed@yahoo.com; or Tweet her @kristabelreed; find her blog: kristabelreed.blogspot.com

Technically, I give this book 3.5 stars. I've just finished reading the whole Hellfire Club series; it's actually quite good. I love the author's writing style, and how she introduces elements of historical fact into such a short space of writing. None of the books are over 90 pages; yet, all of them make for great reading.

"The Masque" tells of trickery, treason, trepidation, and the courage to clear one's name and her family. Callum and Elizabeth's romance was also a very nice touch, and how her predicament is resolved is quite exciting.

"The Escape" includes instances of the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror, and how it affected everyone during that time. What makes this book unique is that the menage of Gabrielle, Eric, and Andre were separated by Gabrielle's abusive brother, Theodore, during this trying time, and Theodore lied to Gabrielle, saying that Eric and Andre had died, when in fact, they hadn't. The three eventually find themselves again, and of course, the romance sparks anew. Excellent story for only 60 pages!

"Aycliff's Vow" unfortunately was a repeat of "The Masque," so I didn't reread it.

The last book (so far) in the series is "Devil's Pawn," which deals with an M/M romance, caught at the height of the French Revolution. Trent and Graham initially meet and feel each other out, and wind up becoming lovers. However, during this time, someone is framing Graham for murders he didn't commit. It's up to Trent and the owners of the Hellfire Club (Henrietta and Donald) to sniff out the culprit and bring him to justice.

All of the novellas are quite good; my only complaint is that for all of the love scenes in the last book "Devil's Pawn," there weren't enough love scenes (in my opinion) in the others. Kristabel Reed packed a lot of suspense and romance in the last book, whereas there was plenty of intrigue, suspense in the previous books as well, but not as many love scenes. Because I enjoyed her writing so much, I was hoping for a similar amount of sex in all of them. They are, after all, erotica! :-)

Overall, a solid 4 stars for the entire series, and I would recommend them to any Goodreads reader over 18. :-)

I happened to win these e-books as prizes in a challenging game. (Thanks, Bookie Nookie, and thanks Kristabel Reed!)

3.5 - I've read a few of the Hellfire Club Erotique books and this one is an mm (I have read several of her mmf's).

Graham Rawley has been hiding out in the sex club because he fears that he's been setup for some murders and fears that he will sentenced and hung so he's been acting fatalistically. Malik Trent has relocated to England and joined the club and meets Graham. As he and Graham get closer and Graham confesses his fears, Trent decides to help him and find the real culprit/s.

A nice sexy historical suspense.
