I once had high hopes for this book but the superior manga offerings of rival Viz displaced this from my reading list.
This was a title that was ready to take off. It was a Western, a vampire story and it had a movie starring Paul Bettany coming to theatres. I wonder where it all fell apart for me.
Reviewing my reads from years past, I felt that I've outgrown this title. Thus, it is among the first to join my first ever Culling, in the hopes to free up valuable shelf space for more important and worthwhile books.
Min-woo Hyung, Priest, vol. 5: Ballad of a Fallen Angel (Tokyopop, 2003)
The second part of the diary of Ivan Isaacs storyline has Temozarela walking the earth, and we get the beginning of the story of his creation of Belial as he faces off with a fanatical Inquisition priest. A good deal of tension in this volume. I wasn't expecting this storyline to hold up nearly as well as it does. *** ½
Cukup baik meskipun sederhana :)) Volume ini memberi kita beragam latar tokoh seperti Temozarela; de Guillion (wadah manusia Temozarela) dan Beliel Gavarre (yg kelak akan menaungi Ivan).
This volume gives us the backstory is spades! 1) Temozarela - we get the war in heaven and how after siding against Lucifer, Temozarela begins to question god and falls to earth to get back at his indifferent creator. 2) His human host, Crusading zealot Vascar de Guillion - who curses God after his wife and children are killed - a rather nice parallel to anti-hero Isaac - who curses god and accepts a demon. 3) Betheal Gavarre - a devoted priest and ruthless witch hunter sent to put Vascar on trail.
Priest aka Isaac barely makes an appearance in this volume - its really all about the back story of the villains. As such we move far from the western and vampire origins and this feels much more like the movies prophesy or legion. The artwork is stunning, the story fascinating and there is very little I can criticise this for.
All I can say on the negative is that one of the fonts used is a little hard to read - but since multiple fonts are used its not that big of an issue.
I'm also not sure about how good the translation/spelling is - especially on names. Temozarela is also spelt tomozarela and tamozarela in places and Betheal is referred to as Belial - I'm wondering if that last one's a time issue and whether he will in fact become the host for belial, but at this point in the story he hasn't. If you can get past those editorial niggles this gothic manga is superb and quickly turning into one of my favourite series.
Way interesting. I'm not giving anything away here. This volume has an interesting involvement with the story of Satan falling from Heaven, but it's from his perspective. It also shows what a manipulative and deceiver he is, tricking people into letting him into their bodies and ruining their lives. Very interesting indeed.
Well this book was too blasphemous for any beleiver even the blasphemy was in the bad people. too DARK for me.... this volume didn't please me at all the last was way better.
