The Captain's Table

Rate this book
Popular and well-respected, Captain Doug Burgess is always in control. But appearances can be deceiving and, as the luxury cruise liner he mans makes its way through the Mediterranean, Captain Doug becomes increasingly distracted by problems at home. Meanwhile, the passengers—including a couple on honeymoon, a wealthy divorcee in search of a new husband, and a recently-separated Dubliner—are all looking for an escape from their ordinary lives, but not everyone can sail away from their problems.

Good like if the owner of the hotel in dirty dancing told the story from his perspective 😬

I was looking for a light read and this certainly fit the bill. I had no expectations before I started it and surprised myself in how much I enjoyed it. Having been on a cruise I could identify with many of the passengers and the ships routine though I was never lucky enough to receive any gold embossed invitations. Yes, this is a light book but it is an enjoyable read. Off to look at cruise brochures now

An easy read! I enjoyed getting to know the characters, I thought the character updates after the cruise had finished was a great idea. I will look out for another of Muriel Bolger's books.
