This was such a cute little read aloud - we read it together for school and it was my first time reading it. I felt like some of the name calling was a little strong so I adjusted as I read. But it’s a great parallel for how Jesus washes us and makes us clean because we can’t do it ourselves.

A simple yet powerful allegory. A quick read that basically summarizes what it means to become a Christian and follow the true shepherd.

I get what he’s trying to do, but the story is just not that clever or fun. It exists only for the sake of the allegory, and once you’ve cracked the very simple code, there’s nothing left. I’m giving it three stars mostly because it could be a helpful way to introduce preschoolers to some spiritual concepts.

I read this long ago, when a spoof of "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" was still timely. But I did enjoy it and it expanded my idea of what Christian books could be.
