From the award-winning author of the bestseller, The Distant Shore, comes Book Two of the Stone Trilogy. Jon and Naomi's marriage is strained as she struggles with the aftermath of her near fatal shooting after the Oscars, a growing desire for a baby, and the realization that her persistent father will never give up his plans for the family's hotel empire. Alone with her fears, she falls right into the trap of a stalker. . .
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Mariam lived in Brazil and Saudi Arabia with her parents as a child before they decided to settle in Germany. She attended school there and studied American Literature and Psychology at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen. Today she lives and writes in Hamburg, Germany, with her husband, two sons and two cats.
I loved the first book in this trilogy, 'The Distant Shore', so I was delighted when the second book came out. Naomi and Jon's relationship was suffering after the shooting. We travel with them as they move from the west to east coast of America, then northern Europe and Italy. I was rather envious of their spending sprees. Mariam Kobras knows how to write romance and paint the scenery for the reader to sink into. I look forward to the third book in the trilogy.
There is a poetic feel to Ms Kobras's writing that really draws you in. Jon's rock star life and Naomi's beauty are envied by many, but the characters are very real and their vulnerabilities are laid bare. You begin to see that all the glitter and glamour of rock star living is not as it seems. A compelling read and highly recommended.
Mariam continues to pull me in with her wonderful story of love and the world of rock music. This is a compliment: her story is like the addictive soap operas that you fall in love with: you love (or hate) the characters, root for them, and cry with them. I can't wait for the final installment!
Part two of The Stone Trilogy, Under The Same Sun is beautifully written. Wonderful cast of characters in an interesting, hard to put down, angst-filled story that keeps me guessing whether or not Jon and Naomi will live happily ever after. I say keeps me guessing because part three is in my Kindle, waiting for me to enjoy. I recommend this and part one, The Distant Shore, as very good reads.
Under the Same Sun is an absolutely brilliant read, delving even deeper into the lives of Jon and Naomi as they search for inner peace and the strength needed to build a life together.
Naomi continues to heal from the traumatic shooting that nearly claimed her life, but with her battered body and shattered spirit she struggles to find a reason to go on living. Jon is beside himself with worry and longs to have the vibrant love of his life back. Adding to the stress of their already strained marriage the couple is still trying to put their painful past behind them. Just when it seems they may turn it around and find happiness once and for all, something in one of them snaps and they're back at square one. Naomi's father continues to cause drama with his refusal to accept Jon and his unyielding disappointment in Naomi's disinterest in the family hotel business.
Another fight between Jon and Naomi sends Jon fleeing and pushes Naomi right into the path of her stalker. Now, things are about to get a whole lot worse as Jon and Naomi's lives are turned upside down. Will this horrific experience finally push Naomi over the edge?
Under the Same Sun is even better than the first book. The characters continue to captivate, with Jon and Naomi dominating the lives of all those around them. The addition of the stalker adds suspense and just when you think the stalker may have given up he strikes. I enjoyed the continued travels, especially Jon and Naomi's trip to Italy. The author has a gift for storytelling and through her detailed descriptions I felt as though I was experiencing the world right along with the characters. As with the first story, Under the Same Sun is emotionally charged and completely absorbing.
