Gay Toltl Kinman has nine award nominations for her writing; several short stories in American and English magazines and anthologies; twelve children’s books; a Y.A. gothic novel; eight adult mysteries; and a collection of short stories. She has had several short plays produced; many articles published in professional journals and newspapers; and has co-edited two nonfiction books. Kinman has library and law degrees.
Ms. Kinman was a friend and colleague of my Mom's. Going through her belongings, I found this book, signed by Ms. Kinman to my Mom. I brought it home with me to read, and will share these delightful adventures of a young girl detective with my daughters.
Post-read - Got more than half-way through when my 10-year old picked it up and started reading it. I liked the main character and situations in which she found mysteries to solve, bit it felt a bit young for my tastes, as the author was redundant at times with information and situations -- recapping events and charaters.
However what I found redundant, my daughter appears to find refreshing. Given that she's only read a couple mystery books (including my childhood fave, Encyclopedia Brown), I'm happy to expand her experience with the mystery genre with tomes more age appropriate.
