Spanking books thrill the pants off of me. It’s true. When I started reading Spank, I settled in for a long ride. First, we meet Catherine Jones, a young woman who is besotted with the idea of spanking. She and her friend take turns playing at it, but when Catherine takes the plunge and offers herself to the headmaster for some disciplinary measures, the story takes off faster than a pair of panties popping out of a Japanese vending machine. (Yes, the book talks about that too!)
George loves his wife Pem. They have a very healthy relationship with their hairbrush and some well-orchestrated domestic discipline scenarios that give them both vast amounts of pleasure. Delectable and sweet, author Alan Daniels describes a marriage based on love and mutual respect that brought tears to my eyes on a number of occasions. When Pem dies in a horrible terrorist episode, George is left with a hollow grief that is unimaginable and struggles to adapt to Pem’s absence.
Catherine and George have multiple adventures and the two finally meet in a class for writers. They each pledge to write and meet back with what they find. George begins his research on his favorite subject and Catherine sets out to write a romance. Things do not turn out quite how they plan for either party.
Catherine meets up with the illustrious ex-headmaster who indoctrinated her into BDSM while George begins to check out all aspects of that relate to sexual natures. In doing so, he experiences a riotous lot of adventures that kept me turning the pages for many pleasant hours. Between Catherine’s sensual and sometimes dark experiences and George’s research, I found myself not minding the 476 pages and actually shedding a bit of a tear when it was over.
The book is a journey of awakening on multiple levels. Spanking and domestic discipline accompanied by historical references, porn videos, phone sex, fetish fairs, dominatrices, toys, paddles, canes, manga and vending machines that sell used ladies underpants are all ripe for the plucking in this wonderfully humorous and enlightening tale. The BDSM sex elements were delicious and I loved the care the author took to discuss the female and male points of view and the dangers involved with getting involved with someone who does not listen to boundaries in a D/d situation. Catherine and George are lovely people with full and lush personalities. The research George goes through was especially illuminating and full of tidbits that made me want to relook at a few key points of history. Heck, I may even learn to like manga after reading this book and I never thought that would happen in a million years!
If the thought of spanking makes you tremble in your knickers, then this is the book for you. Widely encompassing many aspects of human sexuality, it is a joyful read that I will be reading again in the near future. My only hope is there will be another George adventure soon.
