Spank: The Improbable Adventures of George Aloysius Brown

Rate this book
Apart from their mutual love of spanking, it's an unlikely pairing, to say the least: Catherine Mallory Jones, a stunning aspiring poet and romance writer with a dark sexual past. And George Aloysius Brown, a witty and endearing Londoner, whose idyllic, white picket fence life was shattered with the end of his marriage to a woman he adored. Were it not for their passion for the written word, their paths would never have crossed.

But when George is challenged by his writing teacher to push beyond the boundaries of the familiar into the world of erotica, their two paths converge as they seek to explore and expand their literary and sexual horizons. Inspired by his ex-wife's love of spanking, and Catherine's similar desires, the two writers journey into a bizarre often hilarious sexual underworld.

From the adult filmmakers who clearly get more of a kick out of the audition process than from actually making the films, the wheelchair dominatrix who crafts bejewelled canes for the Hollywood set, to the 'over-enthusiastic' vendors at fetish conventions, and the real person behind the sultry voice of a phone sex line—Catherine and George soon discover that the 'real' world of the erotic is full of improbable adventures.

Spanking books thrill the pants off of me. It’s true. When I started reading Spank, I settled in for a long ride. First, we meet Catherine Jones, a young woman who is besotted with the idea of spanking. She and her friend take turns playing at it, but when Catherine takes the plunge and offers herself to the headmaster for some disciplinary measures, the story takes off faster than a pair of panties popping out of a Japanese vending machine. (Yes, the book talks about that too!)
George loves his wife Pem. They have a very healthy relationship with their hairbrush and some well-orchestrated domestic discipline scenarios that give them both vast amounts of pleasure. Delectable and sweet, author Alan Daniels describes a marriage based on love and mutual respect that brought tears to my eyes on a number of occasions. When Pem dies in a horrible terrorist episode, George is left with a hollow grief that is unimaginable and struggles to adapt to Pem’s absence.
Catherine and George have multiple adventures and the two finally meet in a class for writers. They each pledge to write and meet back with what they find. George begins his research on his favorite subject and Catherine sets out to write a romance. Things do not turn out quite how they plan for either party.
Catherine meets up with the illustrious ex-headmaster who indoctrinated her into BDSM while George begins to check out all aspects of that relate to sexual natures. In doing so, he experiences a riotous lot of adventures that kept me turning the pages for many pleasant hours. Between Catherine’s sensual and sometimes dark experiences and George’s research, I found myself not minding the 476 pages and actually shedding a bit of a tear when it was over.
The book is a journey of awakening on multiple levels. Spanking and domestic discipline accompanied by historical references, porn videos, phone sex, fetish fairs, dominatrices, toys, paddles, canes, manga and vending machines that sell used ladies underpants are all ripe for the plucking in this wonderfully humorous and enlightening tale. The BDSM sex elements were delicious and I loved the care the author took to discuss the female and male points of view and the dangers involved with getting involved with someone who does not listen to boundaries in a D/d situation. Catherine and George are lovely people with full and lush personalities. The research George goes through was especially illuminating and full of tidbits that made me want to relook at a few key points of history. Heck, I may even learn to like manga after reading this book and I never thought that would happen in a million years!
If the thought of spanking makes you tremble in your knickers, then this is the book for you. Widely encompassing many aspects of human sexuality, it is a joyful read that I will be reading again in the near future. My only hope is there will be another George adventure soon.

Spank: The Improbable Adventures of George Aloysius Brown is much different from most erotic romances I have ever read. The pages are filled with a wonderful story that begins in the past, showing us the backgrounds, and building momentum. Interlaced within those are lustful, toe curling erotic scenes that leave nothing to the imagination.

The basis of the story revolves around, you guessed it: spanking. However, not in the way that is often portrayed, which is just to cause another pain. Instead, the author brings light to the loving, tender side of this erotic foreplay through his story without watering it down.

I found that the back stories fueled the book, and added a real depth to each of the characters. You wind up feeling as if you know George personally by the stories end. This isn’t what I expect when reading an erotic novel at all, but it is much welcomed.

Spank made me question my own relationship and desires. Would this be something I would enjoy, or perhaps a role reversal? While not a how-to spice up your sex life book, in many ways this is in-touch with the words on the pages, I found myself.

If you are not comfortable with reading erotica with BDSM you will not want to pick up this book. If you are open to it, I am sure you will enjoy SPANK. The author takes us back in time to get to know George and Catherine before they meet. We learn about George and his wife Pem and how she enjoyed being spanked. Catherine had her first experience when she was 18 and set it up with the head mister of the school she was graduating from.

George takes a writing class and his teacher tells him he should get out of his box and write erotica. George sets out on learning more about spanking for his novel. The author does a great job with describing each character and it is really hard not to like George, who is a middle aged retired civil servant.

This is a different side of BDSM and talks about spanking not in the abusive way but in a loving manner. With two individuals that spank before making love. This has been a different book for myself to read but I have enjoyed stepping out of my regular books to give this one a try and enjoyed it.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for a review.

After reading this book, I gained a higher appreciation of erotic discipline. The headmaster's scene in the beginning captured my attention. The writing style, use of music, dialogue with the spanking made me smile from ear to ear.

I was delighted to learn the historic accounts of erotic discipline through George's research and encounters. The characterization was excellent, and I connected with every character. Parts of the book were humorous, especially the bird-watching scene and the court scene. Some of the narrative was too long and slowed down the pace too much in certain sections, but I was patient since I loved the characters

Overall, I enjoyed the book and learned more about the art of spanking through the characters.

Spank: The Improbable Adventures of George Aloysius Brown had most unlikely hero, was hilariously funny, brilliant in its creativity and a story that I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next.

The caravan rolling down the hill, taking out the tent with the inflatable and then the court case that followed made me laugh until I cried. The novel George wrote called 'The Fly on the Wall' made me wish it were a real novel to read next. What is will be the next adventure of George Aloysius Brown? That is two great ideas for another story to follow this wonderful funny erotic story that I was sorry to see end. Humorous erotica of this caliber is very hard to find; I hope the author keeps writing more of the same.

I don't read a great deal of Erotica, but this book has more of a discovery theme throughout it than your basic Erotica books in the genre. Sure there are strong scenes of spanking, but I really liked the discovery of sex and erotica made by the lead character. It brings a different feel to a genre that is really full of blatant sex.If you are interested in some fun spanking stuff mixed with some great humorous scenes about sex, then this the book for you.
Full disclosure- I previously worked with this author on his book- however I only work on books that I really enjoy and this was certainly one of them.

Between the porno scenes, there was actually a serious attempt at a story, which actually involved the Bali Bombing, stalking, domestic violence and grief. Some bits of the story seemed disconnected and I was not sure how I got there and what the time-frame was ... and I started to forget who some of the characters were (I should have kept notes).

I liked George ... and wanted to know a little bit more of what come of him at the end.

"Spank" has an actual story line (which is rare in erotic novels) that is very well written. Filled with humor and yes you guess it....spanking, Alan pens his characters interesting and realistic. A must read for all erotica fans.

This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.

Really nice little story, i am not sure i would call it erotica, i was thinking it was more of Chick lit/Guy lit. George's story is very touching and told with humor and if he was a women this would surly be a chick lit story. The spanking in this story is almost just the back drop to the larger story of love and loss.

This is a fun book. It is not your typical boy meets girl, they have lots of sex and fall madly in love type romance novels. Yes there is sex in the book but it is tastefully done and often humorous. This book is fun and funny as you travel with George as he does research for an erotic novel that he is trying to write and publish. Definitely a book I would recommend.

An intelligent read, with engaging characters. Although the theme of the story centers around spanking, the emotional growth and road to discovery of the characters is as important.

The author, Alan Daniels, shows great humour and knowledge.... An enjoyable read!
