Innocent YA, light on the romance but heavy on the magic.

I always enjoy stories of witches, how cool would it be to have powers like that! I like some of the unique touches regarding their world, their power, and their enemies. It had a little Secret Circle kind of feel to it, a high school 'Charmed' air to it. Very light, easy YA reading.

Some of the twists and turns I was expecting- but there were more than a few that left me shocked. My mind kept trying to put pieces together, but the ultimate final ones I hadn't even found let alone figured it out.

No worries of a huge cliffhanger, but this book definitely is setting up the next in the series. There is no happily ever after for now, but it does not necessarily end unhappily either. There are many times I did question, however... why didn't this happen? Or why hadn't she shared that? Or why wasn't she taught this and that? But questions aside, I enjoyed the youthful voice of the book and let myself get swept away.

If you like light, paranormal, YA with vanilla romance and next to no 'hanky panky' then this book would be right up your alley. If you desire a little more spice, then you may want to pass on this.

"Every vital organ in my body froze instantly. He was, undoubtedly, the most remarkably handsome boy I had ever seen in my life. Any time, any place."

Em Pictures, Images and Photos

Well, my original (HAWT, FANTASTIC) photo was removed by photobucket, so this was just the best photgraphic representation similar to what is in my head for Nicholas. Love the name, by the way. Just imagine "Bright, crystal clear ice-green eyes"... *Swoon*

I didn't read a lot of the reviews, but I read one that was a 2 star and have to admit that I don't agree with it. Usually, I can agree with some part of most people's reviews, but in this case I didn't agree at all. However, I respect that everyone has their own opinion and that is fine. As for recommending a book, I will recommend this book to anyone who likes YA books and books about witches/paranormal. I thought it was actually very good. And interestingly enough, the person's who review I didn't agree with mentioned Charmed and I loved that show. This book did remind me of it given the reference to Book of Shadows which was what their book was called. And the other similarities in that they cannot or should not use their powers for personal gain, there are 3 girls who are "sisters" though in this case not of the same blood and that they have to hide who they are from "hunters" vs. warlock/demons or humans in general.

The differences though are what does make this unique. Calista does not know she is a witch and just thought she was different. She could see the future, was empathic, could move things with her mind, and light a fire with her fingers without getting burned. A little Charmed meets Practical Magic. She instinctively knew to hide her abilities, but strangely, also felt invisible. People did not see her until she moved to California to live with a woman who turns out to be her maternal grandmother. Ana tells Calista of her heritage via her mom who died. Her dad is a human who knew nothing about his wife being a witch nor about his daughter's gifts.

Calista attends a school where the kids are pretty normal, which is where she meets Sophie and Lily, her "sisters". She also meets Justin, the boy who is a hunter, but does not know it. As with other YA books, there are petty girls who don't like her, a gorgeous boy who she cannot believes likes her, and that pending triangle that I generally really hate in books. What is different is that Calista meets Nicolas, but he leaves early on in the boook and she rarely sees him except in dreams where she falls in love with him. While Justin who is with her nearly daily, also falls in love with her, and then tries to kill her when he finds out she is a witch. Nicolas comes back into her life to save her and that is when she finds out he is witch (warlock) too.

Maybe a bit cliche for folks, but it was well done in my opinion. As such, I do recommend the book, but if you are not into this genre then it won't be something you want to read.

Another great read by Penelope King.

Life should be charmed for sixteen-year-old Calista McCoy. But being a psychic, empathic, fire-starting witch isn't all magical fun and games, even if it does come with a snazzy new wardrobe and an awesome beach house in California.

Now she is a target for the deadly Hunters who seek out new, vulnerable witches. Any exposure of her magical abilities can have disastrous consequences. And with covens all over the world constantly fighting with one another, it's hard to know who to trust. If all that weren't bad enough, now she has to go to some snooty private school for rich kids….not exactly a dream situation for a shy girl raised in the slums of the Louisiana bayou.

Things look up when she meets the devastatingly gorgeous and mysterious Nicholas, and she instantly falls under his captivating spell.

But it soon becomes clear that not all of Calista's new friends are who they appear to be...especially Nicholas. And once the thin veil between fantasy and reality is shattered, no one is safe from the evil that has snuck into their lives.

Dare to dream..

This is the third book I have read by Penelope King and this one was just as good as the Demonblood Series. She is an imaginative and descriptive writer and I really like her writing style. It is so easy to just fall into the book from the first paragraph.

This book has a great protagonist in Callie. When we first meet her, she is a shy, lonely girl who has visions of the future and is emphatic of people around her. At her old school, nobody spoke to her, it was as if she didn't exist and now she has the scary prospect of starting at a new private school. And she just found out she's a witch. But from her first day of school, she begins to flourish. She makes two great new friends and they become really close. She starts to learn more about her magic, good and bad sides. And, she makes a new guy friend, a hot guy friend who is crazy about her. But let's not forget Nicolas, the hot guy that she met on the beach and who she can't stop thinking and dreaming about. I thought we were building towards a love triangle, but then woah.....I was not expecting that.

Ana, who is her dad's employer, has a very interesting story to tell Callie. Ana is an older lady who is extremely well off and hires Callie's dad as her handy man. I found Ana to be a likeable character, after I got over my suspicions about her. Callie's girlfriends, Sophie and Lily are a great addition to the book and they, along with Ana, teach Callie about her magic as the book progresses.

This book took a totally different path to the one I thought we were heading towards so predictable, it is not. Towards the ending, the tone of the book does take a turn, going from fun and easy going to despairing and anxious.

I can't wait for the next in the series, which hopefully is not too far away.

When I read the back cover of the book, I thought this book would be a sort of Secret Circle, Charmed kind of story. Not that that's the best kind of thing to be reading, but I have been in a book rut lately, so I ignored that twinge that said this was a bad idea and went ahead with the book.
You know what happens to people who ignore their instincts? They get smacked in the face by it and then it yells "I told you so!".
This was nothing like a kick-ass, girl gets super powers kinda story, and everything like a Disney tween fairy tale.. I should have known from the title. *smacks myself in the face *

As if that want bad enough, I also had to put up with the author stressing every other word in italics.. I mean, at least one word in every paragraph was in italics.. what is up with that?
Annoying isn't it? Imagine having to put up with a whole book of that. Well, anyway I could go on and on about all the things in this book that made me doubt the intelligence quotient of teenagers, but I don't have the energy for that. Plus I'm ashamed to say that a few years ago, I might have liked this book.. So I'll just recommend this book for everyone who likes girly-girly half-brained stories with the kind of magic that focuses on changing the colour of your hair or nail polish, than anything even halfway cool. Have a good read.

This is a review for the whole Spellbound Trilogy.

(Huge Spoilers for the whole series!!!!!)

Witchy Witchy is about a sixteen year old girl who lives in a shack and has no friends. Calista McCoy later moves to a big mansion, well a little house behind the mansion, with her dads works and finds out that the lady that hired her dad is her grandmother and she is a witch which means that Callie inherited her witch powers from her mother. Callie goes to a new school and meets Lily and Sophie, her new “Sister Witches”. In her photography class she meets the blond haired STEAMY Justin, who (spoiler) by the way ends up trying to kill her.

yum

On her morning jog she met the green eyed STEAMY brown haired Nicholas.

more yum
Once they saw each other the realized that they had literally seen each other in their dreams. Callie later finds out that Nicholas is a warlock from a different coven and that her boy Justin is a witch hunter trying to kill her even though he has no control over it. Ohh and he is IN LOVE WITH HER, BUT SHE LOVES NICHOLAS, BUT ALSO HAS FEELINGS FOR JUSTIN!!!!!!!!! (DRAMA). A bunch of different problems happen between them but the thing that bothered me the most was Nicholas and Justin.

Nicholas was just really annoying, over protective, and waaaayyyyy too clingy to Callie. He always said that he would stay by her side all the time when something bad happened to her but like five minutes later he would leave for like a year and not come back. He would only call her from a phone to ask if she is alright or come to her dreams at night and take her away to a magical place but then she would be all upset that day and be moping around until some problem maker would come and decided to try and kill her.

Ana, her grandmamma, had to come out and help save Justin from the curse that was upon him. He had no control over it so Anna sent him away with Nicholas to help save him. To me Justin was just a huge problem maker and was in the way of everything. It really annoyed me that Callie kept looking in the crystal ball all day and reading books on how to try and get Nicholas back even though they all agreed that Nicholas could help Justin, and let’s face it, without Nicholas everything would go down and Callie would keep breaking down.

I absolutely LOVED that there was sooooooooooo much more to her past. First of all huh surprise, Callie’s mother IS NOT DEAD!!!!!!!!! I know it surprised me too. I like that part when we found out that she “died” in a car accident, on purpose, and made her family miserable. LOL! (I’m being sarcastic btw).

Then, we find out that Nicholas is from a different coven, and, guess what else happens, Nicholas’ coven killed Callie’s grandpapa. SPOILERZ. LOL! Now Anna, Lily, and Sophia all hate Nicholas, but Callie still has faith in him . Like what is this, they have to make everything so complicated and I hate it but I also love it because it’s just so good with everything that happens. It’s such a good series, like everyone should read it.

I LOVE the ending because Nicholas and Callie get married on their Dream Island. After everything that has happened, everyone should get a happy ending even Justin!

From the beginning we realize that the heroine, Calista, is going to be an endearing personality. After all, the girl is both telekinetic and sees visions! She visualizes folks she’s never seen just from hearing them mentioned, even briefly. She is an empath, experiencing the emotions of others as if they were her own. Yet she is very diffident about her abilities, considering herself odd, while as we know many people would be publicizing, seeking to make the big bucks, if they had talents as she does.

Calista, who is sixteen and hides her talents skillfully, travels with her father from Louisiana to Southern California, where he is to take up a job as handyman for a frail little old lady. Try as she might, Calista cannot form an impression of Anastasia Havish, the estate owner, from her father’s comments-the first time this has happened. But when she meets Ana, as she prefers to be called, Calista is bowled over by the lady’s enthusiasm and vitality. “Frail”? “Little old lady”? Not so!

Immediately the reader begins to wonder why Ana is so totally enthused with Calista-what’s her story? What’s her secret? What is she after? Will she turn out to be another Elisabeth Bathory, I wondered? It’s not long before Calista emphatetically realizes that Ana Havish does indeed conceal secrets, and one of the most important for Calista’s well-being is that Ana hired Calista’s father, solely to get Calista within her sphere of influence. It’s Calista she’s after-not another handyman (after all, she already has a chauffeur-butler-man of all trades living on the estate-so why would she need another handyman-and why hire one who lived several states distance from her estate?

Obviously, I was enthralled within a couple of pages, and ready to rock along with this story, which only gets better as it rolls along, fulfilling mightily the promise of the first two pages. Once again, I can recommend a don’t miss novel. Get this one, settle in and relax, and prepare to enjoy yourself immensely!

Thanks to Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics and R2R for entrusting me with an honest review.

The name was ridiculous; and I thought the dreamy cover was too elementary. *Sigh* And then I turned to the first page…

This book made me absolutely giddy. This is like a supernatural coming of age novel. Being from the hills of Tennessee and moving all over the world, I could relate to the main character. It’s not easy to feel welcome in the BIG city when you have a country drawl. The enemies in this book were tangible, infuriating, and REALLY went for blood. I could feel my own blood boil. The supporting characters were great. Sophie in particular, was downright comic relief and Lily was the grounding factor. Oh and there was a leading man. Or dream man I should say. If the scenes with him weren’t a dream, I would probably gag, but because they were played off as imaginary infatuations, I was right on board…drooling on my Nook. This world of witchcraft was introduced conversationally like snippets of education in girl talk. Very casual and I like that it wasn’t just shoved at the reader in the beginning. I couldn’t have been more devastated, then when the words stopped and the story ended.

I think the beginning of this book gave me the wrong idea. I didn't like it at all, I didn't like the way things were desribed, I didn't like our main girl and I thought her dad and her landlady were weird. But after the meeting with (in her opinion) the hottest boy on the planet, everything changed. I think I started to like the book when she met her two new best friends. Those girls made the story for me. I think their friendship and the nice feeling it gave me, was what kept me reading. After their meet and bonding, the story really picks up. Though I wasn't a huge fan of her crush, I didn't feel like he was written in a likable way, the story was still nice. Like I said, the story picks up from there and I think from that moment I loved the writing.

I give this book three stars because of the rocky start. I also didn't really like her crush, the way he talked felt slightly off and not realistic. The way the story picked up and changed is the reason I'm still giving it a positive 3 stars.

Why did I read this book!? I should have known by the title that it was going to be childish. Oh no! Another beautiful girl who doesn't know shes beautiful because all the boys ignore her! But as luck would have it, her poor family moves to a mansion because of some long- lost relatives decide they want to contact her, but not come right out and say they are related, just hire her dad then spoil the shit out of the girl! Thats normal... Not to mention the fact that this secret.. That shes a witch and they are related and there are people who want to kill her... WON'T KEEP HER SAFE IMBECILES!

But all is well because 2 cute boys all of a sudden like her and she gets all this free stuff!!! Give me a break!! Oh and she just so happens to finally make friends for the first time, but their witches too! Oh yay everybody is happy... Except me! Cause I'm over here trying to stay awake while I'm reading this book!

Witchy Witchy definitely cast a spell on me. The story is about a solitary teenage girl with "special abilities" who moves across the country with a promise of a handyman job for her father and a new life for herself. Calista suddenly finds herself living a dream in a guest house on a California beach front property with a sudden love interest and 2 new friends at her elite private school; not to mention having her history and what she really is revealed to her by her maternal grandmother who brought her to California with the pretense of offering her father a job. The plot is alluring with enough darkness in it to captivate and keep the paranormal side interesting. I could identify with most of the characters and liked the blossoming relationships between the main character and her trinity. It was a fun read and something that reminded me of when I was younger.

I got this book through R2R (:

This book was so amazing!! Oh Nicholas! *sigh* he is absolutely gorge! What more can I say about this book?
Calista is really lucky! She has awesome powers, her grandmother is super rich, she is now sorta popular and Nicholas is her soulmate!

I had a feeling about Justin but shame I feel sorry for him but I feel Calista should have *rolls eyes* and by reading the excerpt from the 2nd book, it seems to be all her fault that that's the only part that I got annoyed at. So yeah all in all, this book was amazing!

This is a light-hearted story about magic with a side interest of romance. The story and relationships in the book flow very naturally but don't expect everything to be straightforward! There are some twists and turns in this book, some that are explained and some that aren't. This book drew me in from the start and the time passed very quickly whilst I was reading it. Very enjoyable both as Young Adult and as a Paranormal. Further books in this series are now on my wish list.

Nice

It was touch and go in the beginning... I didn’t really know where things were going. But King stepped it up and laid out a decent plot.
Calista, Lily, Sophie, Nicholas, Ana.
Justin... oh man. I didn’t think it would go that way but what a twist!

I received this from Penelope King to provide a honest review.
This is the story of Calista McCoy teenage girl who used to live in the Louisiana Bayou until a strange woman offers her father a job in sunny California. Calista isn't like your normal teenage girl, she has special talent's, like being able to sense peoples emotions, move things with her mind, with a new start in California she decides to stop doing magic and try to be normal. Upon arriving at her new home Calista instantly meets Nicholas a New York bound guy who takes her breath away and she can't stop thinking about him. She quickly learns that Ana the owner of the house is her long lost grandmother she never knew she had and that she's not the only one with special abilities. Calista can't get Nicholas our of her mind or that she's not alone in her gifts with Ana's help, she sets off for a new chance at a new school where she meets Lily and Sophie also morningstar witches as that's what young witches are called. They instantly form a strong bond. But it's not call easy either, with the good that the witches do there are those who aren't so good those who hundreds of years ago ruined it for all, now a long time enemy is on the hunt protected by amulet necklaces the girls are protected. The Hunters as they are called are decedents of victims of dark witches cursed by gypsies to hunt the witches and kill them. Danger lurks in the shadows but come screaming forward when everything in Calista's happy world comes crashing down.
Oh Penelope you did it again, just like your demon series this is equally amazing in my opinion. The characters are well developed you can't help wanting to be them as you read. They are so well described I can see them all in my mind which is what I do when I read. The story pulls you right in keeping you wanting more as you read. What little girl didn't want to be a witch when she got older I know I did for a while then it became a shapeshifter but that's just me. Calista makes me wanna be a witch now....who wouldn't want to have dreams about Nicholas. I found the story easy to get into, and very enjoyable to read on a rainy afternoon. I can see myself picking up this series down the road and re-reading it again because it is so enjoyable. It's just got it all a girl I could relate too, a handsome mysterious man, magic, and of course the danger. Awesome I love it!!

I first learned of Penelope King when I stumbled across A Demon Made Me Do It, a dark YA paranormal tale that quickly captivated me. I think I can safely say that I was expecting something darker, but what Witchy, Witchy lacks in darkness is quickly made up by the magical journey that will just as easily entice readers.

The first three quarters of Witchy, Witchy are dedicated to character development, in my opinion. There is some slight mystery as the reader tries to figure out the placement of Nicholas and Justin, but within that first three quarters I felt that I successfully became intuned to the characters, able to know how each of the girls(Callista, Sophie and Lily) would react to any given situation. That, I felt, was a success on Penelope King's part. I often become invested in characters, but to add knowing to investment was a simple way to capture my attention throughout the story.

I have to say that I wasn't in love with Callista. She was a strong character, don't get me wrong, but she wasn't able to sweep me off my feet. She did have a realness to her though, for a sixteen year old. She was really naive at times, but would have moments of supreme clarity that added to her character. I did enjoy watching the growth she achieved, she started to become a stronger female protagonist at the end of Witchy, Witchy so I have high hopes that she will continue the growth into a character that WILL sweep me off my feet.

As the plot goes, there wasn't much mystery to get twisted in. The only question that kept reoccurring in my head was: someone has to be a Hunter, someone has to be bad. . . so who is it? I have to admit that for someone who likes to be tangled in mystery, I was content with how Witchy, Witchy progressed. Like I said earlier, I really appreciated the fact that I KNEW the characters. As you can guess, I will be reading the next book in the series, Kiss The Crystal Sun.

I recommend Witchy, Witchy to all lovers of romantic, whimsical fantasy. I think Witchy, Witchy will vastly captivate female readers of any age.

Witchy, Witchy
By Penelope King

Calista is not your ordinary teenage girl; she has always been blessed with special gifts, like opening her curtains with the flick of her finger. Though she had no idea just how special she was until her and her father move to Crystal Cove Estates in Southern California, there she finds out that she was actually born a witch, and the lady of the house who has hired her father to be her new caretaker is actually none other than her own grandmother, Ana. Not only does Calista have to start a new school and deal with the local bully she must also be on guard against a group of people who had been cursed with an insatiable need to kill witches, witch-hunters. Thus begins Calista’s new life and to make matters more interesting she has been having dreams of a guy she met on the beach her first day there, making her feel like a love sick child, but there is more to these dreams than even she realizes.

So much happened in this first book I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it justice. I loved how Penelope King explained her version of witches; it was very unique and intriguing, that when the world began normal human being could not survive so the Gods created a special group of kind hearted people who were blessed with powers of the lesser Gods. Penelope King was able to write a beautiful love story, but also a story about a young woman finding out about herself and for the first time in her life actually having friends that are as close to her as family. The only thing I wanted more of from this book was the story of her mother but I am hoping that, that story is more intertwined within the next books. I definitely can’t wait to read the next book this one was left on such a cliffhanger I am almost itching to know what happens next.

I received a copy of this through Read2Review so my thanks to the program and author for letting me review this book. Calista is a sixteen year old girl who moves with her Dad from rural Louisiana to a mansion on the beach in California. Her father gets a job as a groundskeeper of an older women's mansion as Calista gets to know Ana she discovers that she is a witch and she is not alone.

The premise for the book is nothing new especially for YA a teen moves to a new town discovers she has special powers and has to deal with a new high school ad making new friends. It's been done before so it was kinda predictable. I thought the first half of the book dragged a bit and could have moved a little faster. There were a few editing errors, like talking to the wrong person but easily overlooked. Callie was a likable enough teen and to give Ms King credit the teens in her book acted like teenagers instead of what adults think they should act like as happens too often in YA.

The plot was pretty slow up until the very end and it could have used more tension. I never felt the character was in danger or had any tough decisions to make, considering the amount of paranormal ability most of the characters had, something more than the usual "mean girls don't like me". The ending could have used a bit more closure and a little less cliff hanger. Yes I know it's trilogy and you need a reason to read the second and third books, and since I will probably read the rest of the trilogy cause I want to know what happens...mission accomplished. All in all it was ok, not great but an easy enough read.

♥ ♥ ♥ 3/5 It was ok wait for the paperback.

Witchy, Witchy INTL giveaway!!!

I was hooked from page one but got a little worried when i realized that Calista had to attend a normal high school and deal with high school drama. Thankfully, there was minimal drama and more about her discovering herself as a witch.

I really enjoyed the twists in the book and it kept me intrigued throughout. I would really love to know how Nicholas and Calista plays out and find out what cool and unique powers Calista has.

I love how the story flowed so naturally, it was relatable. The friendships forged were natural, love dialogues were not overly corny but straight to the point and I like how all the characters were consistent and didn't seem to change even under different circumstances. I could really connect with everyone except maybe Nicholas since we do not know much about him. Also, his creepy stalker tendencies reminds me of a certain sparkly vampire. Thank God not too much attention was drawn too that.

Overall it was a quick read with some new ideas about magic and witches thrown in. One thing i really appreciated was that i was not bombarded with tons of facts about the magical world and the likes. I liked the Q&A sort of method where things were only explained when Calista questioned so the explanations had good timing.

If the second book is well-executed, it will definitely surpass this book. There was just too much left unexplained, can't wait to read Kiss the Crystal Sun!

Recommended for anyone who is looking for a short read and who loves a different kind of magical world mixed with romance.

This is my first ever teen fantasy/young adult paranormal romance novel. While I was skeptical at first to read something outside of my particular norm, I found that once I got past the first few pages, I was interested.

Here's the story of teen Calista moving to a new town in a new state with her dad so that they can basically start over. Living in the guest house of a mysterious, yet friendly, woman, she figures out really fast that her life is about to change drastically. The good news is that she finally figures out why she is so different from everyone else. And not just different in the sense that all girls feel while during the crazy teen years, but different as in "I'm a witch and have crazy special powers." different.

So if that's not enough, she still has to deal with starting a new school complete with mean girls, a boy who really wants to be her boyfriend, and a guy she met once on the beach but can't get out of her mind and meets in her dreams every night.

I found the story to be believable yet just enough fantasy/paranormalish that I wanted to continue reading. Penelope King kept the story moving quickly while also revealing the important details at the correct moments. When I got to the climatic point, I was so completely hooked that I was almost disappointed in the way it ended.

My R2R review of this ARC book is pure enchantment! From the magic fair tale beginning of being swept away like Cinderella with the glorious house on the cliff overlooking the ocean and the stylish clothes and Ana the owner of all this being so loving... What girl wouldn't feel like she was in a dream?
Well that dream became reality! Along with the mysterious boy down on the beach... Knowing already there is a strange connection...
Because Callie is a witch! And that is just the beginning!
The new school, her new friends,Lily and Sophie, Yummy boy Justin(: The hottie on the beach Nicholas her destiny...
Everything she didnt have before in her previous home is now all at her finger tips... Sigh....
Love, mystery, danger and magic all rolled into one really remarkable story! I flew thru this book in one sitting and came away with a little tear with her longing and strong realization she is stronger and more sure of herself and ability and new life than ever before(: Hurry up and please release the next book! I'm so excited
Thank you for letting me escape in magic for a little while

Witchy Witchy Book #1 (Spellbound Series)
By Penelope King

An Amazingly Magical and Riveting Read!!!

From the onset I was drawn in with wondrous curiosity…. Then kept intrigued with the amazing storylines and fast pace with which “Author Penelope King” pens her awesome read….

Calista the main character with which this story revolves around is charming and a character that you can’t help but fall in love with…. Then she further amazes us the readers with the cast of characters that surround Calista to make this an epic story and beginning to the series that I feel will stand the test of time…

I encourage anyone that loves the action of a great movie with the side order of “Charmed”, Witches and Warlocks and Hunters will truly absorb and love this first installment of “Author Penelope King’s” (Spellbound Series)….

Charming, gritty and romantic as well…. A smorgasbord of literary brilliance and A Must Read!!! I have already started Book #2 “Kiss the Crystal Sun” of the “Spellbound Series” and I can truly say that you will not be disappointed. I know that I’m not, sonrisa….

I've heard a lot of fuss about these books, and I have to wonder why. Then again, I also have to wonder if I read too much or watch too many fantasy-type series on TV, because most of what I read these days reminds me of some other book or show or author. This one... just more of the same.

I had a number of moments where I flashed back to The Craft and The Secret Circle. Only difference is here (so far at least) there's only 3 witches, but they're still all teenage girls.

One thing I do like about Witchy, Witchy (though at the same time makes it too YA for my tastes) is these girls deal with normal, every day, teenage girl problems. Not all of their problems are magical, and they don't try to use their magic to solve those problems, either. What a relief!

I thing Penelope King has taken a much more realistic approach to the world of witchcraft in fiction than I've seen to date. Real people mean real problems, whereas magic has its own set of problems, and, occasionally, the two will overlap and, well, that's when crap hits the fan.

I may continue to read on just because there are obviously a number of years ahead of these girls and I hope to see the books grow with them.
