Required the longitude. 10. 1874. October 4th, at 9h 13m A.M., mean time at ship; in lat. 30 39' S.; long. 40 39' B.; Sun's bearing by compass N. 67 30' E.; alt. Sun's lower limb 44 39' 40"; eye 22 feet; index error + 39". Required the error of the compass; and supposing the variation to be 24 W., Required the deviation of the compass for that position of the ship's head. 11. 1874.
