When two outlaws suddenly come into town, the townsfolk sense that they may be looking for trouble, but Sam is not worried because he knows that they are no match for the talented cowboys and cowgirls in his Wild West Show. Reprint.
The illustrations in this book are childish and colored with water colors. Something that caught my attention was that all of the colors used had a ‘faded’ look to them, suggesting a 19th century wild-west theme. Sam, the main character enters the town hosting a Wild West Show in a hot balloon, after the initial fun of games and events, the Mayor got a warning that there were robbers coming their way. The people elected Sam as their new marshal and long story short he stopped the robbers with just his lasso. It is a very simplistic story with very elementary based conversations. The pictures, while a few of them show guns, they all have a very happy mood to them – making it very child friendly.
This story is about a wild west show that brings the town together by using the main character, Sam, to protect the town when two mean robbers try to come their way. It is a great book and can be used to teach students the importance of sticking together and a fun activity to do is having students work in teams to make a play about this story after reading it. The illustrations are great and very detailed. For anyone who is interested in the wild west, cowboys and cowgirls, this is a great easy read, especially for children!
