Berlin - A City Divided
For 28 years, the Berlin Wall divided the city and tore apart friends and family. Comic book artists Susanne Buddenberg and Thomas Henseler interviewed contemporary witnesses and recorded their stories. Five authentic tales bring to life a past which, although not far away, seems hardly imaginable now: A young woman tries to leave East Germany with a fake ID card. A refugee is shot on the border, and no one can come to his rescue. An entire family hides in an East German government building near the Wall, hoping to flee from here into the West. A young man covertly photographs the border fortifications and falls into the clutches of the secret police. An East Berlin student ventures into West Berlin and experiences the party of a lifetime.

Vierailin noin vuosi sitten Berliinissä ja tutustuin tavoilleni uskollisena kaupungin jännittävään historiaan niin toisen maailmansodan kuin kylmän sodan aikakaudella. Näkemästäni ja kokemastani innostuneena nappasinkin sarjakuvafestivaaleilta mukaani Susanne Buddenbergin ja Thomas Henselerin sarjakuvan "Berlin : A City Divided" (Avant, 2013).
Sarjakuvassa kerrotaan viiden tositapahtumiin perustuvan tarinan voimin Berliinin muurin historiasta aina muurin pystyttämisestä sen purkamiseen ja Saksojen yhdistymiseen asti. Näkökulma on itäberliiniläisten, ja käsitellyksi tulevat niin huimat pakoyritykset kuin muurin murtumisesta aiheutuva kollektiivinen riemu syksyllä 1989.
Sarjakuvatarinoiden väliin on sijoitettu lyhyehköjä tietoiskuja, jotka täydentävät tapahtumia ja antavat ihan mukavia vinkkejä Berliiniin matkaavalle turistille. ⭐⭐⭐ und 1/2 Sterne
Ich habe ein Kapitel dieser Buch vor fünf Jahre erstmal gelesen, es gibt eine Ausstellung außerhalb eines der Schauplätze (Famille Holzapfel und ihre Seilrutsche). Es war super, die anderen Kapitel zu lesen. Ich mag wie das Buch auch Geschichten des gewöhnlichen Leute, sowie des 'Heroes' erzählt. Ja, wir können nicht alle Spione sein, wie Detlef Matthes, aber der Mauer hat das Leben der meisten Berliner beeinflusst, z. B. die Schülerin Regina Zywietz oder Ursula Malchow, die Frau eines Artzes. Toll!

Ein kurzes, doch starkes Buch. Perfekt für Kinder, Schüler oder Ausländer, die Deutsch lernen und die sich über Geschichte interessieren, denke ich. Ich bin froh, dass ich es gelesen habe!

Come prima cosa, credo che il libro sia un furto legalizzato.. 15€ per 97 pagine, piango!
Ok, mi sono tolta questo sassolino, posso tornare ad essere obiettiva. Mi aspettavo in realtà una storia compatta e invece il libro è composto da cinque mini storie (davvero mini: si tratta di 4/5 pagine massimo ciascuna) che sono ambientate negli anni del muro e soprattutto, sono storie vere. Ogni storia è intervallata da un paio di pagine esplicative in cui si racconta un po' la vicenda del muro e di cosa volesse dire abitare a est o a ovest di esso.. In realtà l'idea di strutturare l'opera così mi è molto piaciuta perché queste testimonianze riescono a trasmettere a tutti coloro che sono nati dopo gli anni del muro stesso o comunque più in generale a chi non ha vissuto la divisione della città in prima persona, molto più di quanto potrebbe fare un trattato di storia o un romanzo: le difficoltà, la paura, la rabbia, le speranze e poi la gioia delle persone coinvolte.
I disegni mi lasciano un po' titubante, non mi sono proprio proprio piaciutissimi.. Ammetto che in parte ciò dipenda dal fatto che mi hanno trasmesso una gran tristezza, ma non so se l'effetto sia voluto o no.. Diciamo che credo siano riusciti a trasmettere il grigiore di quegli anni, ma non mi spingono a leggere altro degli autori, ammettiamolo!

Berlin - A City Divided is an Anthology of five biographies, told in Comic Book form, that recount the rise (albeit, construction) and fall of the Berlin Wall, seemlessly collected in a feature-length Graphic Novel. The Book's layout is flawless, each first-hand story/biography is separated and teathered to the next by an educational epilogue; allowing the stories to act as one continuum that tells the story of the Wall through differing, individual experiences.
The Artwork and Graphic Design is just beautiful, tackled by both Susanne Buddenberg and Thomas Henseler; the Artwork is a striking Black and Grey, full of realism and great perspective, marked by its stunningly subtle shading.
The stories are moving, heart-wrenching and, in the case of the Holzapfels whom ziplined to freedom, even just amazing; and the creative team clearly put extensive effort in to their research for the Artwork adds to the whole thing, with realism on the Wall's scale, building placements and even floor plans that help us to easily get to grips with the risks and dangers these people undertook in attempting to flee over the Wall or help others too.

Berliinistä ostettu sarjakuvakirja käsittelee Berliinin muuria. Viisi tositarinoihin perustuvaa kertomusta ja tarinoita taustoittavat välitekstit antavat aikamoisen tietopläjäyksen muurin vaiheista. Konsepti on toimiva, aihe mielenkiintoinen ja piirrosjälkikin ok. Heikoin lenkki on itse tarinat, jotka jäävät turhan valjuiksi, dramaattisuudestaan huolimatta.
Kirja kuitenkin innostaa hankkimaan lisätietoa Berliinistä. Ei huono ominaisuus kirjalle sekään.

This aims to tell the story of the Berlin wall through the impact it had on 5 people. Each of the individual stories is told in cartoon form.
The book puts a human face to the statistics of the wall, but I would have preferred if the stories had been longer and told with more depth.

3.5 ☆ Viisi tositarinaa jaetusta Berliinistä sarjismuodossa, pääpaino itäberliiniläisten kokemuksissa. Ostin tämän Hohenschönhausenin vankilamuseon kaupasta, sillä kierros vankilassa sai kiinnostumaan Berliinin historiasta.
Opin paljon uutta (kirjassa on myös muutama aukeama pelkkää tietoainesta) ja tykkäsin piirrosjäljestä. Tarinat ja henkilöhahmot olivat tosin vähän ohuita, mutta toisaalta tällaiset uinuvan saksan osaajat pysyivät hyvin kärryillä. Myös englanninnos on olemassa. Jos raskaat historiaopukset eivät innosta, niin tässä kevyehkö tietopaketti ihmiskohtaloista Berliinin muurin varjoissa.

Ein bisschen zu teuer (15€ für 97 Seiten) aber die Geschichte waren gut.
Es gibt 5 Kurzgeschichten mit einer kurze Erklärung von dem, was passiert ist. Die haben mir sehr gefällt. Es gibt die Geschichte von 5 reale Personen, die die Mauer auf verschiedenen Wegen erlebt haben.
Den Zeichenstil mag ich nicht. Er ist sehr detailliert aber es scheint traurig aus. Ich kann es nicht besser erklären, Entschuldigung.
Man soll es lesen, um nicht zu vergessen, was passiert, wenn man Mauer baut.

Kiinnostava perusteos Berliinin muurin historiasta ihmisten omakohtaisten tarinoiden kautta. Sarjakuva ja faktateksti vuorottelevat ja peilaavat toisiaan. Napakka paketti vuosista, jolloin muuri halkoi Berliinin kahtia. Opin itsekin uutta!
Jos tämän saisi suomeksi, olisi tämä hyvää oppimateriaalia yläasteen historiantunnille.

Une super BD qui raconte l’histoire de 5 personnes (et de leur entourage) dans un Berlin divisé. Histoires qui méritent d’être davantage connues. Il y a aussi plusieurs textes explicatifs après les planches de BD de chaque petite histoire qui compose cet ouvrage. Je conseille.

July 3, 2021Ich habe es mir gekauft denn ich wollte dir Geschichten vielleicht im Deutschunterricht benutzen. Der Text ist relativ einfach und auch klar geschrieben. Außerdem sind die Bilder ganz toll. Gut für das 3. oder 4. Jahr im Deutschunterricht.

Diese Graphic Novel besticht durch ihre ästhetischen, detaillierten und historisch korrekten Zeichnungen sowie durch die sprachlich einfache und zumeist spannende Schilderung von fünf wahren „Mauer-Geschichten“, die aus der Perspektive von Zeitzeugen erzählt werden. Nach jeder Geschichte wird auf einer Doppelseite anschaulich der jeweilige Kontext (z. B. die Geschichte der Teilung Deutschlands und Berlins) erläutert und einige Geschichten beinhalten original Fotos oder Zeitungsartikel aus der beschriebenen Zeit. Zudem kommen auch Berlin-Tourist:innen auf ihre Kosten, da genaue Angaben zu interessanten (Gedenk-)Orten inklusive Angaben zu den jeweiligen Homepages und den Haltestellen, an denen sich die geschichtsträchtigen Orte aus den Geschichten befinden, auf den Doppelseiten zu finden sind.
Als Deutsch- und Geschichtslehrerin kann ich diese Graphic Novel insbesondere für den Deutsch als Fremdsprache- und definitiv für den Geschichtsunterricht empfehlen.

Hatte das Buch während einer Reise in Berlin gekauft, und gelesen.
Für die Agregation habe ich es erneut gelesen, um wieder mit der Stimmung Berlins in der Zeit der Mauer zu knüpfen.
Es geht um fünf wahre Geschichten, die verschiedene Aspekte der Geschichte Berlins und der Mauer darstellen. Dazu gibt es Informationen. Das Buch ist sehr gut dokumentiert, das Zeichnen ist sehr schön. Ich empfehle das Ganze!
