Kenley couldn't let Rose's disappearance go. She didn't believe the official story, she discovered Rose's secret life, and now she may be in danger. Powerful men have taken notice and are angry. She has a stalker. She's whispered about in the school hallways. She also has three guys who believe her, support her, and want to keep her safe. But this is Thistle Cove. Is any young girl safe?
This book took a dark turn that I didn't totally expect. Sugarbabies, the Dollhouse, the mature male predators all make for a fantastic read. The tension is sky-high, the suspense kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read. And at the same time, the romance/hotness level escalated. Kenley got in over her head this time. Again. I understand completely not being able to let the mystery go but she takes too many risks. Speaks up when she should stay silent. Keeps secrets when she should confide. It's worrisome. Finn stepped up, his sincerity came through. I still need more from him (I sound like a broken record, I know). I need to see him choose Kenley when the time comes. Ezra struggled this time out. Best intentions, terrible results. He's so damaged and emotionally fragile. I find him irresistible. Ozzy takes a little bit of a backseat because his personality isn't as big as the other two. Still, he held up better than I expected. Being true blue is not a negative. His steadfastness makes him stand out. Alice was the surprise character in the book. Wow, just wow. Her forceful nature stole scenes and added an extra level to the book. And I am amazed that Rose still has the hold over this group and the school like she does.
What I love the most about this series, however, is the uncertainty, the unknown. I still don't know which one of the men to fear the most. Maybe they are equally dangerous. Then that ending... I can't wait for more. I am scared about the offer and the involvement of certain players. Another nice twist!
