In this beautifully written memoir, the author recreates the atmosphere of a concentration camp in vivid detail. She describes the horrors of life as it was lived in Birkenau, as well as the brief span of time she spent marching towards liberation. The small joys, the immense sorrows, the minor triumphs and the overwhelming torments give this account an unusual poignancy that is not to be found in many places. Her story is of women, and of Jews and of an existence clung to under circumstances that go beyond the indescribable. Her ability to give these memories a life, although profoundly disturbing, is admirable and necessary. Never forget.
