Twins Nate and Herman Howe are back in this follow-up to WBI: Witches Bureau of Investigation. An ancient demon is running amok in Los Angeles trying to perform a complicated ritual that will give him solid form. He disables the Bureau but fails to account for Mrs. Weatherby and her network of retired witches, who are determined to stop him.
My paternal grandfather, George Lewis Capwell, was raised near Salamenca, New York. His father, John, was an engineer during the construction of the railroad while the canal was being built in Panama. George moved to Ecuador and became the president of the power company there and later in Panama. My father, George "Spike" Capwell, was raised in Ecuador and Panama. When my family (six boys and a girl) was transferred to the Canal Zone in 1974, we became the fourth generation of Capwells to live in Panama. My sister Michielle's son, David, was born while we were there, making him the fifth generation. Like my mother, my sister married an American raised in Panama.
WBI 2: Witches Bureau of Investigation 2 (Witches Bureau of Investigation #2) by Richard Capwell and Noreen Capwell continues the story of the retired witches and the twins as the battle evil and solve mysteries. It is a kids book but it also helps kids learn that age is barrier to doing things- young or old. It is a fun and exciting mystery, fantasy where kids and the elderly work together to stop the end of mankind, again. A fun and exciting story that is delightful crafted and fun to read. The characters are unique and interesting such as the dragon shifter or the wolf shifter, or the witches and their special potions. The forgetful witch, the red eyed demon, and others are also unique and fun in their own way. Love these stories and I know my grand kids will love them too.
A terrific read although there is one major flaw. In the first book the boys are nearly 12 and now they're 16? When there is a strange event at their school, the boys try to contact their parents but to no avail. Apparently the numbers they have for them don't exist. Therefore they try to contact one of the retired witches and explain what happened. Panic from the witches when they pick up the boys as it seems that a demon is trying to follow a ritual to make himself corporeal on earth. His spell has 12 steps following the signs of the zodiac. Can our group find and stop the demon before he completes the spell? Add in a dragon, time warps and lots of quotes for a great read. Possibly not as good as the previous book but still a wonderful tale for all ages.
Usually a sequel in anything isn’t as good as the first but I have to say to me this book was even better than the first and I really liked the first book. I love Doris‘s mother! There’s a lot of inside jokes in this book very entertaining read!
Another fun, delightful read! Many of the quirky characters from the first book were present again in this one, as well as some new ones like Dagmont and Lillian. The addition of the signs of the Zodiac made for an intriguing puzzle as the band of companions tried to stop a demon from completing a twelve-step ritual that would enable him to gain a solid form and become super powerful. I found myself deciphering the clues and racing to the various locations right along with them.
This series is a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon and I hope there will be more books in the future.
Quick thoughts: The formulaic nature of the enemy here keeps it a step below the first book, but it does build to a satisfying conclusion with a couple nice twists. Again an easy, amusing read with diverse characters. ONe of my favorite things about these books continues to be making both protagonists and antagonists competent without being perfect and fallible without being stupid. Call this 3.5 rounded up for a strong ending.
Another original story. The zodiac concept worked really well and gave the reader the feeling they were involved with the story. The whole way through I was deciphering clues to match the zodiac.
As always, I hate that it had to end and I'll have the wait for the next one. I want to find out how Beauchamp is and see more of Lillian.
I really enjoyed the first book, looked forward to the second one, didn't mind paying for it..any age can read and enjoy but the older readers get all the references to old characters. Will definitely read more of his books
Really enjoying this series. Well written, fun characters and a an interesting storyline. The boys join forces with the Retired Witches to save the world from a demon who comes back once every 100 years to try and take over. Some interesting things happen during the course of their investigation but you'll need to read it to find out.
it's a popcorn book....you know the sort. Got an hour or two free, want to read something that requires no real thought or concentration. There's no real depth, no truly gripping story line, though it was a pleasant enough distraction for an uneventful afternoon
Another kindle freebie failure. For a start, this is a kids book - which I did not realise. The part that I read seemed as if some younger people would enjoy. But as I am not the target market, I am unable to recommend.
Again, another quirky little tale for Nate and Herman Howe and the retired witches of the WBI. Although the target audience is children, there was a nice little nod to any adults who may pick it up with the graveyard scene - a kind of "Spot the Celebrity Spook"!
A wonderful twist for retired witches. As twin brothers enlist a retired witches to help find their missing mom, a great relationship evolves. Thank you Richard Capwell.
A demon who has been trying for 99 hundred years to escape foiled by twins, retired witches including a senior old woman, an orangutan, a werewolf, a dragon and a crazy hippy. Brilliant !
This book is more geared to children than adults, but was a fun read anyway. Would be good for young readers who want an element of mystery and to suspend reality for a while.
