Shelley Hitz is an author of over 50 books. However, most importantly she is a wife, daughter, sister, friend and follower of Christ. She has been ministering alongside her husband, CJ, since 1998 and her main passion is to share God's truth and the freedom in Christ she has found with others. She does this through her books, websites and speaking engagements.
She is also the owner of ChristianBookAcademy.com where she helps pastors, ministry leaders, and Christian entrepreneurs get published and market their books.
Shelley's openness and vulnerability as she shares her own story of hope and healing through her books will inspire and encourage you.
I have self-published seven Amazon Kindle ebooks, and have spent a lot of time thinking about how best to market them. Yet I was quite startled to find from Shelley Hitz's excellent book that I still have plenty to learn. For example, I didn't know that you could add extras to your Amazon Book Sales Page through Shelfari. I knew nothing about my Amazon public profile (which is NOT my author profile).
If I had had this book more than a year ago, when I first ventured into Kindle self-publishing, I would have saved myself much time. I spent weeks working out how to get my books into their optimum Amazon categories. Here it is all explained.
And it is only recently that I have learned of all the enhancements that you can make to your Amazon Book Sales Page through Author Central. I would bet that most authors are not aware of how much they can do. This too is all in this book.
Everything is very clearly explained, illustrated by numerous screenshots. I recommend this book, certainly to those who are new to self-publishing. But I am sure that even those experienced at self-publishing will, like me, find plenty of useful material.
This book gives great practical information and advice. Shelley does a great job teaching the "nuts and bolts" for a person to gain exposure. I've used many of her suggestions and highly recommend this book for anyone who is starting the process of marketing their books.
There were questions I had about marketing my e-books that I couldn't find the answers to anywhere. But this book answered those questions! In fact, this book answered the questions comprehensively, in easy to follow steps. Marketing Your Book on Amazon is a marketing tool that I will reference often! There is also a bonus feature at the end of the book that really makes it worth your while. I fully recommend this book to any new indie author.
After reading this I cam away with serveral ideas I plan to use when I launch my own book in January. The book is packed with ideas that any author either a tradional or indepented publisher could use.
Shelley Hitzs includes links to her own computer screen shots and if you are a visual learner like me this is ivaluable. Along with a good checklist which will help plan your marketing stratedgy before you get started there is a 27 minute video.
This is a great, fast primer on optimizing Amazon for selling e-books. Most of it is foundational and most pertinent to those authors just starting out, but, even with ten books under my belt, I still picked up several new tips. Worth reading!
I grabbed this e-book when it was a free download. After reading it, I definitely would have paid for it. As a first-time indie author/publisher/marketer, this resource is invaluable as I build my Amazon author and e-book pages.
I’m sure the information in this ebook can be cobbled together from multiple online resources, but this compilation is based on personal experience and brought together in a comprehensive ‘how-to’ guide for Kindle publishing. The structure of the ebook is broken into ‘tips’ that walk the reader through various tasks that are beneficial to promoting books. Even though there are only 67 pages, the author provides a ton of links to online resources and screenshots of Amazon pages. The screenshots are easy-to-read and the appropriate areas are numbered for easy cross-referencing with the text.
This is an indispensable ebook and I will have it handy as I build my Amazon pages.
I have read a lot of marketing books. Most, though, either say much that I've heard before or give me "easy steps" that are neither easy nor well explained. Shelley is extremely clear, concise, and complete. She has done this herself and somehow knows just what an author is going to ask or need to know. She doesn't just tell you to do something and toss around "marketing lingo" that makes your head spin. She walks you through what the terms mean, what the options look like, and exactly how to maximize them. In the first ten minutes of reading, I was able to link my blog to my author page, something that had eluded me for months. I can't wait to try some of her other suggestions.
I've had books on Amazon since 2009 and thought I was pretty familiar with the website and its inner workings, but I still learned a few tips from this great little book. If you are a new author, or an author who's realizing you need to do more marketing, I would highly recommend this book as it gives a concise overview of Amazon categories, a book's page, the author central site and how it works, and the best ways to pull all those elements together to capitalize on great sales.
Lots of linked illustrations and an included video tutorial are a great addition, especially for visual learners.
If you are an indie author publishing through Amazon.com, Shelley Hitz’s “Marketing Your Book on Amazon” is a must-have for your professional library. Hitz, a self-publishing consultant, breaks down the myriad of ways you can use Amazon.com to sell your books into clear, bite-size chunks accompanied with helpful visuals. I read the entire book in less than an hour, developing a bruise on my forehead from slapping it with my hand while exclaiming, “I didn’t know that!” I immediately went to Hitz’ web page and signed up for her newsletter. I definitely give this book five stars.
Marketing Your Book on Amazon by Shelley Hitz is a clear, concise guide to developing and implementing a marketing plan to help promote your book on Amazon. It’s easy to follow steps and simple layout makes it a snap to use.
The author did a great job in organizing and developing the layout of the book and marketing plan so that even I could follow it. It is written for the “newbie” writer and the old pro alike. I picked up a lot of great tips and suggestions and will be implementing them in my own marketing programs.
I highly recommend Marketing Your Book on Amazon by Shelley Hitz.
I'm publishing a Kindle this week and wanted to brush up on the latest advice for optimizing my Amazon pages and getting the word out. This book delivered! Although I've read widely on book marketing, I wanted the latest advice and respected an earlier book I'd read by the same author.
It's clear, organized, and gave me a dozen or so fresh ideas that I can start implementing today. The screenshots were well-done and should be a great help to visual learners. Excellent advice for both beginners and seasoned marketers.
I really liked how this how-to was set up. Step by step, and then links to screenshots on her website so you could see what she was talking about. I asked the author why they weren't included in the text and she said they weren't easy to see, so this is the best solution. The video you get is also very helpful. I can't wait to put all her advice into action. This is something I will keep in my carousel and refer to over and over.
If you are looking for a proven step-by-step process, complete with pictures and video, of how to market your book, this is it.
Whatever your preferred method of learning, Hitz covers it in this book.
I’m looking forward to using it to get my Amazon account set up and working before my next book launch. Having these resources at hand I feel confident that I will be able to have a successful book launch when I finish my book.
If you are new to marketing your own books, this is perfect for you. It is not overwhelming, gives you specific steps, and includes screen shots to help you through it. Although written more for the self-publishers, traditionally published authors can also glean wisdom from it. The checklist at the end is simple, logical and very helpful.
If you've got a book or two on the market and are comfortable figuring things like Amazon and GoodReads out, you probably want to skip this book.
If you are a newbie or just want to be sure that you’re making the best use of Amazon in your book marketing efforts, this book is a good place to start. There is even a bonus video included to provide extra direction.
This book is very concise and clear. I was able to follow step by step through the instructions for my own newly pulished book. This book is definitely a bargain and an investment!
Overall, Marketing Your Book On Amazon wasn’t bad, but I don’t think I was personally fond of the presentation of the information, which is why I only gave it two stars for “It was okay.” This short book reminded me more of a blog post than an ebook, and some of the information may go out of date quickly if it hasn’t already (due to the constantly changing nature of the industry). A lot of the information is also freely available on blogs. Note: I didn’t watch the included video, so I can’t comment on whether or not that was informative. Also, I believe I got a copy of it while it was free.
That being said, there were still a few tidbits of helpful advice regarding how to use Amazon, even if you are already familiar with the general information. The tips are presented in an easy to follow format (Which, as noted before, reminds me of a blog post). If you are looking for a list of ideas to keep in mind when using Amazon to promote your books, you may find useful advice in Marketing Your Book On Amazon.
My mailbox is generous of advice on how to market my book— often questionable. But Shelli Hite’s book, Marketing Your Book On Amazon, deals only with one subject—Amazon. The author covers every step on The Amazon sales page. She includes everything from categories to getting reviews. I intend to go chapter by chapter and follow her suggestions.
The only issue I found was a link that no longer existed, but blogs disappear on the internet daily. I won't count off for that. Well worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.”
This is not a book that you can sit down and read. This is a complete marketing course and to get the most out of it, you will want to go through it one step at a time. It was written a few years ago, so a few of the links and advice may be out of date. However, it is packed with relevant and clear directions that will send your book to the top of the Amazon bestsellers list. If you are serious about selling your books on Amazon, get this book.
What a fabulous book! The best self-help book I read in years! Hands down! Of the 21 marketing tools for a book she promotes, I knew only one! As I read the book I worked and completed 7! I have 13 to complete this week! Thank you!
I enjoyed this book and have learnt a lot. The author did a great job guiding the reader using a step by step approach in the marketing of a book. As a new author I have started to implement the principles given
Have you written and published a book, but sales are depressing—or nonexistent. Maybe what you need is a way to get readers to notice your book. Marketing Your Book on Amazon: 21 Things You Can Easily Do For Free to Get More Exposure and Sales by Shelley Hitz is a short Kindle book that outlines in easy-to-understand steps a marketing plan for your book, using some of the handy programs on Amazon as well as other social marketing platforms. Hitz shows how authors can use the Amazon Author Page, use keywords effectively to enable more readers to see your book, and many other methods, some well-known to anyone who has published on Amazon’s CreateSpace or Kindle Direct platforms, and others perhaps not so well known. Along with the handy hints, Hitz has also included in the book a link to a free video tutorial that takes you through the marketing plan—a great tool for the visually oriented learner. While these tips won’t guarantee that you’ll instantly become a bestseller, they will certainly improve your chances of selling more books, and building a following of readers for future books. If you’ve been struggling to sell your books, this is a worthwhile investment. I’ve used several of the suggestions, and while not all have worked for me, I have seen an increase in book sales over the past several months, so I can say that some of them do work. The one thing that is definite, writing your book is just the first step; marketing it is the essential next step if you want to be read. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
As someone who’s planning to return to self-publishing after eight years, I was eager to see what Shelley Hitz has to say about marketing on Amazon. It turns out that she has quite a lot of easy-to-understand tips even for those who aren’t overly tech savvy.
Happily, I’ve already implemented half of her suggestions but it’s good to know that more can be done. The screen shot links Hitz provides are a little hard to see unless you adjust your screen size. Although the book was published in 2012, many of the links I tried (I didn’t try them all) still work, except for a link to a review site. It’s interesting to note that her comments about the importance of using Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads are still relevant. There are plenty of links to resources, other books, and tutorials.
I found it curious she Hitz doesn’t mention the Amazon forums that allow authors to promote their books. They were helpful when I self-published in 2008 and it appears that a number of those forums still exist, so I would have loved some tips on the best way to navigate through the many threads. As I said, though, this guide is still quite useful for newbies just starting the long journey into book marketing.
For those of us who are visual learners, Shelley Hitz’s book, Marketing Your Book on Amazon, is a great resource, containing screen shots and video tutorials along with clear and easy-to-read instructions. This user friendly book makes the process of self-publicizing and marketing eBooks and print books seem less intimidating and scary and more doable and rewarding.
Full of great ideas, advice, and practical information, Shelley takes us through the Amazon marketing and promotion process, highlighting the ins and outs of what goes on behind the scenes to give a book more exposure and optimize sales. I hope to begin applying these principles to my marketing first book.
Shelley, thank you for sharing your knowledge in this gem of a book. It’s a helpful resource I will refer to again and again.
Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I found a lot of helpful information in Marketing Your Book on Amazon. I was already familiar with some of the basics of marketing on Amazon, like using keywords and book categories, but Shelley Hitz also provided a number of additional tips such as:
How to give a gift copy of your book to a reviewer (Kindle format).
How to get customer reviews for your book in an ethical way.
How the Amazon Associate Program works.
How to shorten your book's Amazon URL, so it looks more professional on Facebook and other social networks.
She also provides a handy post-publication checklist.
Of course, things change quickly...even since the book came out, KDP Select now includes Kindle Unlimited...and I think tags have been phased out. Still, I found most of the information was still pertinent and helpful.
I found the book very informative. I've published my book, I Dare You To Try It, during Summer 2015, yet I was not aware of all the things that an author could do to get more exposure. After reading this book, I was able to: 1-create an author profile on amazon 2-create a life event on Facebook. I use Facebook everyday and I had no clue such a thing existed 3- select a category for my book. Once I chose another category I was able to see a big difference on the rank sales for my book, I Dare You To Try It. 4- Also I used bookbaby.com for e-book and createspace.com for printed book. After reading this book by Shelley, i linked the two versions of my book.
As an author you will be surprised about how many little secrets you didn't know. I really recommend you to read this book. Also I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is an extremely helpful book for marketing one's book on Amazon. I received so many ideas from the book that I don't know where to start first.
As a relatively newbie Amazon authorThe Laws and Secrets of Success: Delving Deeper than You've Been Told Before into the Mysteries of Why Some People Accomplish More Than Others, Are Happier, Better Liked, and Yes, Wealthier I wasn't sure how to maximize the books success on Amazon. Now I have many strategies to try. I think what I liked best is that the author explains well HOW Amazon does things, so it makes the strategies more intuitive and real.
I very highly recommend this book.
Note: As per the author, I am supposed to disclose that I received a free copy of the book for this honest review.
