Roxann Beadleman reluctantly agrees to accompany her jilted cousin, Angora Ryder, to a reunion at their alma mater in South Bend, Indiana. When they arrive, neither woman is prepared for the feelings they both still harbor over an old professor--and he certainly remembers Roxann. Hot on their trail, Detective Joe Capistrano is desperately trying to protect Roxann from a deranged criminal who may also be following the two women. When a murder occurs on campus, both women are swept into the middle of a scandal. Detective Capistrano may be their best hope for escape--but what’s in it for him? Bond keeps listeners on their toes with timely plot twists and dashes of humor. C.J. Critt deftly captures the spirit of the text with her whimsical narration.

USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.

Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.

In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,

Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.

My rating may be a little too critical considering I have read other books by Stephanie Bond and loved them. This book is like a bad crossover episode of MTV’s Daria meets HBO’s Sex and the City with none of the female characters being very likable. Honestly the author did not due any of the women justice in the likability department in this book. The romance is debatable in this book and the mystery(ies) are all over the map.

Roxann and Joe have no chemistry and she is basically a complete bitch to him throughout the entire book while Angora and Mike were too obvious that I never really got invested in it. Honestly my biggest issue with this book is the use of the effect of years of mental abuse on a character as the source of most of the humor in this book.

The narrator was okay. She gave the big burly cop Joe the voice of a nasally teenage boy and even though Roxann and Angora had different speaking voices – the narrator didn’t let the characters keep the voices for their inner monologues. She instead used her narrator’s voice for those which became confusing.

I know this a quick sloppy review, but I got nothing left to really say.

This was weirdly entertaining. Quite humorous in places but the narration was a bit slow for me.

Another gem by this author. I greatly enjoy her stories and she offers up a great deal of them as freebies which is really kind. I epsecially liked the characters in this one and had to admit I'd have fallen for Capistrano in a heartbeat....he was a true hero and a super guy to boot-what's not to adore ?
As usual there were some very funny lines in her book-she is a very witty writer. Some things get lost in translation, though. I've never heard the expression hi-test before so I was a bit lost there and I Googled copping a nib and even they didn't know what I meant !! I utilised them to better effect looking up a Magic 8 Ball-we don't have those here !!
I only spotted bounded where abounded should've been used, I thought, and that was the only mistake (or not) which easily means 5 stars in itself for me. Makes reading such a pleasure.
She almost lost me with her attorney getting sick...that was almost a bit too far gone for me but thankfully we soon got past her inclusion in the story. I really liked the mention of the stick in the water and looking at something from a different direction....THAT was intriguing.
I look forward to the next one of hers for sure.

Excellent story. I totally loved Joe Capistrano! I liked Roxann and even Angora (though I admit she got on my ever-loving nerves at times).

Too bad this is a one-r as I'd love to read more adventures revolving around Roxann and Joe.

Another fun, roadtrip-worthy listen. Mindless but lots of fun. I listened to this years ago and had forgotten all about it, so it was like listening anew.

This came in as a very welcome RABCK (with a number of other books). I had the impression this might not be the first in a series, but gradually that slight irritation was calmed. I enjoyed Roxann, as the main character, and the general shenanigans of this story. A good read for a very hot day by the seaside.

Stephanie Bond books are always very satisfying, formulaic in a reassuring way, a bit weird, and I always feel like I went in a joyride after. it's actually the second time I read this book, just wanted something fun and odd and this fit the bill

Really enjoyed this book, had some fun moments, some crazy moments, some sad and some suspenseful moments. This is my first book by this author and look forward to reading more of her books. She knows how to write and make a story line flow together. I enjoyed both POV, and at times I thought I had it figured out who was really to blame through one of the characters thoughts, but again I was fooled, lol.

The only character that really annoyed me was Angora, I am not a big fan of spoiled rich kids, and she got on my nerves a little to much but I liked how she turned out in the end. Roxanne was great and I am not sure where a couple reviews said she started off weak, seems to me she was pretty strong through the whole book, of course if I was in her position, be a little freaked as well, but if I had a yummy piece of Detective watching my back, I wouldn't worry to much, lol.

Great story, written very well, hardly an grammar issues, characters well described and thought out, overall a really nice book to read!

Whew, this is a good one. A road trip, buddy comedy book AND a suspenseful run from danger/murder mystery PLUS romance all in one. The buddies are cousins Roxann and Angora, two very unlike young women with individual and shared secrets that form the basis for the suspense plot involving, mostly, Roxann. She's on the run from a criminal who wants to know where she and the abused women's organization she works for have relocated his wife and child. Chasing him--and her for info on him--is hunky Dectective Capistrano. Eluding both would be challenge enough if she didn't also have her jilted-at-the-altar, former beauty-queen and hapless, clueless cousin Angora riding shotgun.

These characters are funny but full of depth, and the story has more levels than one might expect. It's a not-to-be-missed roller-coaster ride of thrills, chills, and laughs.

I listened to this on unabridged audio and thought it was a pretty enjoyable read. Not too dark and heavy and the characters were likable and interesting enough to hold my attention. It has a Stephanie Plum-like feel to it but it's a little more closer to reality than the Evanovich books. It has some nicely done but not over the top humor, a bit of romance and a mystery plot that kept me guessing. Definitely one one of the better books I've read this year.

A cute mystery story. I liked Roxann. Her cousin Angora was a little annoying. She seemed a little mentally unstable. Angora's mother was very unlikeable. It was hard to believe someone could be so mean to their daughter. It seemed to take a long time to get to the murder part of the murder mystery.

Readers who enjoy mysteries with humor and romance will like this one. I had to keep reading to find out what the secret was that Roxann and Angora shared--apart from the primary murder mystery.

Got Your Number

Roxann Beadleman is a woman on a mission; to save abused women. Unfortunately, her line of work although secret is dangerous, because if a husband finds out...

And so a rather vicious partner knows Roxann squirrelled his wife and child away. He wants to know where they are. And so does Detective Joe Capistran who wants the wife to testify against her husband. So we see Roxann fleeing across the country back into the arms of an old flame with her rich cousin in tow and Detective Joe Capistran in hot pursuit. It's an interesting idea with bags of room for humour, but the author does not quite pull it off.

Roxann our protagonist was raised in modest circumstances by a single father. His resent at his wife's unfaithfulness has left its mark on Roxann. Her mother's desertion and untimely death have also left Roxann scarred. She is fiercely protective of women. Including her rich and seemingly spoilt cousin Angora Ryder. Roxann rescues Angora on her wedding day together they head back to their university reunion at Notre Dame and past love. With Detective Joe Capistran on their heels.

I liked Roxann although I didn't always understand her. Her personality sets her up for comic situations. The cast of characters is a mixed bag. There are aspects of Angora personality that made sense and so a reader will sympathise with her, especially when you meet her mother. Mrs Ryder is an overbearing matriarch who we love to boo. But there are deeper spiteful aspects of Angora that detract from the humour in the book and don't fit comfortably with the person portrayed.

I enjoyed reading this early work of Stephanie Bond and it shows what a powerhouse she was destined to be. Stephanie Bond builds an interesting world packed with ideas, plots, twists, and turns. It will keep readers entertained. If you are a fan of Bond, it's interesting to look back and see how she has developed. Otherwise, you could give this one a miss and immerse yourself in one of Bond's later and stronger novels.

I love a mystery! And this one had so many twists and turns that it kept my attention all the way to end. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something happens to turn your thoughts upside down. Got Your Number is a combination of humor, romance, mystery and intrigue.

I listened to the Audible version of this novel and I'm not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. The voice the narrator used gave me the impression that Detective Joe Capistrano was a bit sleazy... but his actions didn't convey that at all! And the voice of Roxann made her seem kind of flat and at times totally uncaring. I don't believe that was the intention of the author. It made me wish I had "read" the book instead of listened to it.

This was an action packed story starting out with Roxann getting fired from her job as a waitress. The waitress job was just a cover job. Her REAL job was helping women who were victims of domestic abuse escape to establish themselves in a new environment. That got her into a bit of trouble as one of those husbands came after Roxann for information on where his wife had run off to. Detective Capistrano wants to find the wife also because she was a witness to her husband shooting Detective Capistrano's partner.

Getting away for awhile, Roxann decides to go back home where her cousin, Angora, is getting married. But then poor Angora gets left at the alter when hubby-to-be decides he wants to rekindle the flame with his old girlfriend. Wanting to get away, Angora talks Roxann into taking her on a road trip (with ex-fiance's American Express gold card) to their college homecoming. That's when things really start getting crazy! Old crushes on a college professor, old murders, new murders, old loves and new loves! A crazy, domineering mother/aunt, and a soybean farmer attorney add more craziness to this mix.

Stephanie Bond brings together romance, mystery, intrigue, and family chaos... all rolled together with a heavy dose of humor.

The day is certainly going wrong for Roxanne. First, a “rescue” took longer than expected so she was late for her waitress job. Second, a cop from Biloxi came to the restaurant and wanted her to tell him the location of Melissa Cape, one of her “rescue” clients. When Detective Capistrano grabbed her arm and wouldn’t let her go she poured hot coffee in his lap. Her boss fired her! Then when she gets home she finds someone was in her house and ransacked her things and left a message on her computer screen “I’ve got your number. You FAKE!”

She heads for her cousin’s wedding planning to hide away after. But that doesn’t stop the bad from continuing.

A fun and humorous story with lots happening. Clues abound but I didn’t see the ending coming. I enjoyed this mystery, murder, and romance written by a good storyteller.

I enjoyed the book for what it is, a quick easy read that doesn’t require much thought. It’s an excellent beach read. The lower rating was only because it’s slightly predictable and there’s no burning urge to continue reading or pick it back up. That’s not the book’s fault, though. It’s not that genre.

This is a great book. Crazy characters, madcap capers, crooks, mysteries, it’s got it all. Angora and Roxanne are lovable and irritating in all the right places and this adds to the charm of the book. There were enough twists, turns and dead bodies for any cozy mystery officionado and the ending was satisfying g and surprising. Can highly recommend.

A murder mystery halfway romance book. Not as well written as her other books. Ok premise of two cousins going back to homecoming week to revisit the past. Caught up in scandals and a "secret" they share that's finally revealed at the end of the book was a huge letdown. Some dead end chapters & not really worth reading. I recommend Bond's "Bodymover" series.

Fluffy, easy and entertaining - which was what I needed - but the plot needed some depth and clarity in my opinion. Lots of details revealed in the end which I could not have guessed and it had an impossibly happy ending with all loose ends neatly tied and then some.

Not sure if this is teenage book with tiaras and school crashes; or detective book : “who’s done it“ or romantic comedy with 2 friend fulfilling dreams... It has been all mixed into one book not very successfully.

I like Stephanie Bond, I’ve read almost all of her cozy mysteries but this one is when I threw in the towel on my Bond binge. I forced myself to get about a third of the way through this book before I gave up. It was so hard to follow and just so uneventful.

Fantastical, light tale of a woman on the run from an irate husband of an abused client. She hits the road with her beauty queen cousin, who was jilted at the altar. Of course, she falls for the gruff PI who is tailing her. Nice twists and turns.
