Really good book, it motivates you to follow your journey, give awesome tips to be aware in how to be a profesional artist and share experiences of great failures and success.
I really recommend this book to those artist that want to follow the artistic journey on their fullest potential.

This is a short audiobook that Bobby Chiu has released for free on his YouTube channel. Like usual, Bobby is an incredible source of inspiration and motivation! He talks about how he got to a point in his art career where he is doing jobs that he loves. The book is divided into topics - skills, motivation, exposure, employer bait and financial security - and he shares his thoughts on what is important in each. His personality and drive to help others is admirable too. Will definitely be revisiting this!

I listened to this audio book on Bobby's YouTube channel and against my assumptions was very impressed. Bobby recognizes there are different stories to different artists, that some struggle with things he never had to endure, and he is still able to talk about those hardships thanks to numerous interviews he's conducted over the years with his favourite artists. It is a very short and motivational read. I recommend to everybody who is struggling with motivation or lack of self belief.

If I had read this a few years ago, I probably would have been able to taken more out of it than when I read it this week. Regardless, the information in here is vital and should be read by everybody starting off on their artistic journey in the professional world. Despite the first sentence I wrote there were a lot of insights and encouraging words that Bobby was willing to put down on paper for all of us to learn from.

3.5 - Has some good moments that will stick with me, especially "the perfect bait" in context. There are a few phrases that float in my head as a creative; Nathan Fowke's "the heart of the image" being one of them, and now this feels like one of those.

The Perfect Bait é um audiobook e ebook do artista Bobby Chiu, publicado em 2011. Na altura era preciso comprar o livro num dos seus formatos para aceder à informação, mas desde então Bobby disponibilizou o audiobook completo no Youtube!

Costumo ouvir bastantes entrevistas e talks de artistas e o trabalho do Bobby Chiu não era novo para mim, mas a iniciativa de ouvir este audiobook em particular partiu da Maratona de Leitura #ml122dias que me desafiou a “ler um livro cujo protagonista tenha uma profissão que admires ou que gostarias de ter”. Bem, fui muito pouco original, mas prática. Sou ilustradora, que é a profissão que gostaria de ter, e escolhi um livro de um ilustrador.

Não especulei sobre novas profissões, mas aprendi dicas úteis sobre a profissão que já exerço, pois trata-se de um livro técnico, com concelhos para artistas definidos a partir da viagem pessoal do Bobby como ilustrador.

Bobby Chiu, que além de ser ilustrador e character designer freelancer para jogos, cinema e animação, também exerce bastante a função de professor e mentor através da sua escola online Schoolism, já tem muita experiência a explicar as coisas de maneira sucinta e certeira. O próprio título do livro resume o conselho mais importante de todos.

O conceito de que para conseguir trabalho como ilustrador devemos tornar-nos, a nós próprios e à nossa arte, no isco perfeito. Muito mais eficaz do que procurar projectos, é atraí-los. E todos os conselhos, mais ou menos técnicos, se focam nesta ideia.

É muito interessante de ouvir e penso que possa ter utilidade para o público no geral, não apenas para artistas. Experimentem!
