Studious Hadley wants to break out of her shell this summer, soak up the sun and crush on the eye candy – the hot Taylor brothers during their annual camping trip at the sand dunes. Her best friend has her eyes set on finally seducing sexy older brother, Cameron. Only younger, goofy Conner isn’t so little anymore and he has ideas of his own about how this summer will go. When flirting turns to boy swapping and then backstabbing, these two BFFs are soon conspiring against each other. This is all out war. But is summer love worth losing your best friend over?
Themes: First love, summer romance, and enduring friendship.
This was a cute, easy YA contemporary romance that I read in 1 sitting for a pick me up.
Hadley goes camping with her best friend Nikki and her family every year where they spend time with another family with two boys Cameron and Conner (oh, and the pointless character Josh who honestly, I can’t even remember if he spoke) - romance ensues.
The story was nice, it avoided a lot of irritating tropes and quirks that YA romance usually has. Although the girls both like the same boy, we don’t have a lame love triangle. There’s some drama that’s not boy related which is nice. It’s not over dramatic in a painstakingly, pull my eyes out way that LOTS of YA is but there’s enough angst to feed my guilty pleasure of YA.
Annoyingly, there were some typical irritations that come with YA that hadn’t been fought off. The main character described herself as plain - euhhhhhh - and then proceeded to point out how quirky and sarcastic and different she was (vom). And we had the magical romantic eye changing colour.. why in books do girls have to say that boys eyes change colour based off their mood and then say that they’re cloudy or some smouldering description. You are not a mystical being, go to get your eyes tested.
However, in hindsight, only 2 irritations is a stellar performance for a YA romance and I really did enjoy about 90% of it. There were quite a few issues with sentence structure and missing words, but I’m not too picky so that didn’t affect my feelings of the novel. If YA romance is your thing, then so is this.
Kindled this book and started reading it thinking it was another with the same title, it wasn't until I was about a third of the way in, when I'd realised what I'd done - dah!! As I'd started I had to finish. It turned out to be a pleasant, sweet and funny read. Not really aimed at my demographic but wouldn't hesitate in suggesting it to my mid-teen nieces.
So I was thinking a 3 star rating but really I think it deserves closer to a 3.5... So feeling generous I gave it a 4!! Lol. I did enjoy this one... It was quick and light and had some humor! It was fairly clean as well... Could use a little bit of editing...
Cute teen story about growing up, friendship, and love. I liked the growth of each character and think there is potential for a cute series here. I stumbled upon this book and gave it a shot and am glad I did. I wished it was a bit longer though.
Simply, I didn't like it. I didn't know what the point of this story was!!! There were a few cute moments between Hadley & Cam, but besides those moments, really, there was nothing I found special about this book. But of course, that's just my opinion.
This book is a cute read. It's not steamy but not overly dramatic. Makes you wanna go camping and take pictures... And wear LOTS and LOTS sunscreen! Lol I'm an Eliza reader fan now.
This was a cute short book about love and friendship. It was a simply told story of summer and first loves. I thought it was cute and the storyline was set out well. It was a good read.
