Hexed Nights #1

Wickedly Good

Rate this book

It’s wrong. Wicked. As coven priest, Aston should know better. But he can’t help his feelings for Gemma. Too bad she likes his brother Drew—his no-good, cheating, engaged brother, who takes what he wants regardless of who gets hurt. Aston intends to warn Gemma, but when he steps into his brother’s room and the lights go out, and she presses herself against him…

Air witch Gemma has lusted after Drew for years. When she gets her chance to spend a steamy night with him, she takes it. As he makes love to her in the darkness, as he makes her come again and again, she can’t help but think he’s different somehow—taller, more thoughtful. And that facial hair that abrades her skin in some seriously naughty places…how did he grow that so fast?

By day, Aston seems dark and frightening. By night, he rocks Gemma’s world. If he could only convince her to see the truth—he may not be his brother, but he loves her more than Drew ever could.

I liked the premise of this, I liked the characters (mostly) and the set up of the story right up until the 70% mark.

Then it got really formulaic with Gemma saying she'd always actually liked Aston more than Drew but had been afraid to admit it herself and some other stuff that was very disappointing.

It should have, could have been so much better.

Great Read

I loved the witchy world built into or world. Aston and Gemma were opposites yet somehow fated to be together.

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-r...

Air witch Gemma Erjon has lusted after Drew Haizea for years. Now back from London, grown up and a few pounds lighter, Gemma is determined to seduce the man who never saw her as more than the housekeeper’s daughter. And seduce him she does. When the lights go out, things get seriously naughty. However, there’s something she doesn’t know…

Aston Haizea is sick of his engaged younger brother’s lying, cheating ways. He’s not about to let Gemma fall into Drew’s trap, so he sets out to confront her. The only problem is, Gemma has never seen him as more than the scary coven priest. When he goes to confront Gemma, things go a bit awry. The lights are out before he can reveal his identity and when Gemma presses against him, Aston can’t help but give in to his desire for her. It’s a tricky game Aston is playing, and the harder he falls for Gemma, the more he wonders what will happen when she learns which Haizea is her lover.

Sabrina gets a paranormal twist with Wickedly Good. I loved the premise of the book and the paranormal politics author Anya Breton brings to the story are interesting. However, the story fizzled in the second half. To say something positive, the sex scenes are erotic and the paranormal elements are interesting (if a bit underdeveloped). However, while Aston does some less-than-honorable things, he’s generally a likeable, interesting hero. Unfortunately, Gemma goes from being a decent — if unbelievably naïve — heroine to being downright frustrating. Though I won’t spoil the book, some of the things she does near the end of the story are, in my opinion, unforgiveable, vindictive, and childish. Because I finished Wickedly Good not liking the heroine or understanding how Aston could be in love with her, the story left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Wickedly Good is the first book of Ms. Breton’s I’ve read and while I don’t think I’ll be reading it again, I would pick up another of her stories.

Gemma has finally returned home after an extended visit to England. The young air witch may have left a chubby carrot top but she returns a stunning temptress. The sexy witch is ecstatic when she catches the eye of her childhood crush, Drew. Never mind that the he is engaged to another woman. Gemma plans to seduce him anyway.

Aston is a powerful coven priest who’s on the verge of the biggest promotion in his political career. He’ll do anything to make sure that his younger brother’s marriage, sealing an important alliance, takes place. After his plan to bribe Gemma fails, Aston takes his brother’s place when the witchy seductress sneaks into Drew’s bedroom for some planned sex-capades. Gemma mistakes Aston for Drew and the heat is on. Now, maybe the dude should have fought her off when she jumped his bones….but since when does a man pass up some free smexy? Aston does feel guilty after their mind blowing sex ….but still sets up a rendezvous for the next night where he once again impersonates his little brother.

Now, I might have seen his actions as a betrayal if Gemma hadn’t deserved exactly what she got. After all, she did plan to have sex with a man that was already taken. This was the point where I thought: “She must know which brother she’s having all that hot sex with”. The two guys looked nothing alike, with Aston having a goatee while his brother was baby faced, for gods sakes. The real trick was for Aston to convince Gemma that she knew all along.

This was a short book but the quality of writing was excellent and the story flowed nicely. The characters were vibrant and the chemistry between Aston and Gemma was high voltage. This book was well worth the reading and I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a sweet romance that develops completely unbeknownst to the main character, Gemma. She thinks it's another man she's spending her steamy nights with... or does she? Under the cover of darkness she sneaks into the bed of her life-long crush. Knowing there must be a good man beneath the womanizer, she gives him far more credit than is due. The problem is, he disappears in the light of day, leaving only his controlling, slightly frightening older brother to chaperon her.

I loved the reluctant way the two main characters came together as well as the sparks between them both in and out of the dark. I hope the author has plans to write about the witches in the future because I would love to read more.

This was a enjoyable Sunday read for me.
The story line is basically "Sabrina". Which is a movie I really liked when I was younger.
Although Gemma is young and somewhat naive, she stands up for herself most of the time.
The sex scenes are reasonably hot. The first two don't seem to use any condoms or other protection but the third scene implies that they did.
The POV swaps between characters, which I liked.
There is a lot of talk about using their air witch powers to search out others and to muffle sound.
My curiosity was aroused about the histories of secondary characters that where touched on but not fully explained.
The cover is gorgeous.
