Human Being Human Doing is a book by David C. Russell that features six stories with historical fiction at their base. They include a telling about Marium as a follower of Jesus, David’s faith and decisions after he was anointed by Samuel, Moses’s rescue in the reeds as orchestrated by his mother and sister and told by his mother, Jesus’s teachings and crucifixion from Nicodemus’s perspective, modern discussion of Judaism, Catholicism, and Christianity at a modern-day symposium, and a particular case on Judgement Day. The main characters in his stories answer a question by using experiences and events from their lives, encouraging others to follow their example or learn from their mistakes.

David C. Russell has written a collection that deserves serious thought! The works are entertaining, enlightening, and useful, and readers can easily relate them to their lives. Using his knowledge of scripture, Russell gives a glimpse into the historical atmosphere surrounding pivotal times and builds the reader’s senses with heightened descriptions. Each character has a different voice, even though the narratives are told from a first-person point of view. The last two stories are set closer to modern times, and the author shows that humans will sin, even though they have strong beliefs, but it doesn’t make them bad people. Due to the information in his author biography, in the final story, it seems the author has imagined what it would be like to be judged at his death, and it may make others watch their actions around others more closely. Human Being Human Doing would be at home on the shelves of public libraries or in the hands of readers who enjoy fiction with a scriptural foundation.
