Chasing Leah by C.A. Williams

So let me tell you about this great book. First off we learn about Leah and her upbringing. She's a 16 year old girl who is pretty much left to raise herself. Her mother is out with a different guy every night. Drinking and partying.

She comes in one day and blurts out that shes pregnant. Of course she has no clue who the dad is just like with Leah.

They don't have much money let alone anything else. so a new baby will be hard. Leah's mom actually stops the partying and drinking for the 9 months she's pregnant but she's still smoking. After the baby Leah's mom says they are going on a road trip. They stop at Leah's grandmothers house. Leah's grandma and mom haven't spoken in years so when her mom says she's taking off Leah is pretty much dumb struck.. She's now left alone with a newborn baby brother and a grandmother she doesn't know. I was so upset at this. I understand how things can get rough but as a mother I can't imagine being away from my kids let a lone abandoning a newborn and your 16 year old you were supposed to be close to. Uhh.. frustrating.

That was a long time ago and here we are now as Leah is in college with her best friend Ally and Caleb at 3 Years old.

Leah has legal guardianship of Caleb now. Her grandmother really never warmed up to them and as soon as she could she took over the responsibility for him. She's raised him all his life anyway. Leah is a pretty hard worker and i have so much respect and admiration for this young girl who's taken on so much. too much and she's left no time for fun for herself. That is until she meets her across the way neighbor Chase. He's tall, handsome, smart, and a guitar payer in a band who sings like an angel.

Leah is a hard cookie to crack though and Chase has to work darn hard to get Leah to let loose and have some fun.

Such a fun read, i laughed i cried and i wanted to poke out Leah's moms eyes out for deserting her kids.

Oh and did i mention that ending? Yeah i seriously read a kindle and kept tapping on blank pages over and over again. Um.. not nice C.A. Williams. All i have to say is that their better be a second book coming out pretty darn soon or there is going to be an angry mom at your door demanding to know what happens next. I'd be the first in line. :)

If you haven't read Chasing Leah yet you really need to. you will fall in love with all of them just like i did.

I feel like there is a good potential storyline in here somewhere, it just didn't go anywhere! The writing style was a bit off too which really puts me off! The drama that happens in this book just felt forced, to make something happen, no one in real life would jump to the conclusions leah did, it didn't make sense to me. Took me a few days to finish this book, I got very bored with it and was ready for the end then there isn't really an end. Its a series I think, one that shouldn't really be, there doesn't seem anywhere for this story to go, other than more drama with leah jumping to more conclusions about chase. Feels like the author just missed off the last few lines of the book rather than any sort of cliffhanger, it could have easily ended after a few more sentences. This book wasn't for me, I probably should of stopped after a few chapters but I hate not finishing a book in case it gets better. You may like it but either way I think after a few chapters you will get the feel of the book and can make that decision for yourself. 2 stars because there was some potential...

"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life, that word is love."

Leah, was forced to grow up quickly all thanks to her mom, who couldn't get away fast enough from her responsibilities, hopping on the back of a bike.
"Oh yeah, that's me the luckiest girl around, not sure where my next meal would come from sometimes or scrounging around thrift stores trying to find something to wear that will make me fit in a little bit. But hey, lucky girl right here."

Leah finds herself in college renting a two bedroom apartment with her best friend Ally, with sole custody of her three year old brother Caleb. She has a plan, work, school and Caleb, that is all she needs, no time for dating, no time for fun...until Chase comes along
"Okay soon to be high school teacher, tattoos, good with kids, hot body AND he's in a band. Isn't that like every girls dream type rolled into one?"

Luckily, on top of all that, Chase is the most patient guy ever ... he is there every step of the way with Leah, never rushing her, never demanding more that what she is prepared to give. Leah is so caught up in her responsibilities that she is oblivious to what is right in front of her
"Leah, seriously do I need to spell it our for you? That girl would be you. Ever since I met you that first night. Trust me there's no other girl that compares to you. I just wish you would see that."

I loved Chase, how he was with Leah and Caleb, he did everything he could fill that missing piece in their life. It is never easy when your girl is too damned independent for her own good.
"I know baby, trust me everyone knows you're a strong ass woman. You could probably beat my ass with a broken leg."

Little by little we saw Leah grow and begin to trust and welcome others in her life, but at times it was like pulling teeth. Leah was a runner, if she doesn't want to deal with it, she would run and hide. She may be strong but deep down where it counts she was scared, granted she was young, it still was a bit annoying. There were just a few typos, but nothing too bad.

WARNING: This does end in a cliffhanger, but lucky for me book 2 was already out. I probably would be in a foul ass mood if I had to wait...lol

This was a cute love story. Chase was a great hero - totally steadfast in his love and devotion to Leah. Leah was a prickly heroine, not that she didn't have good reason to be cautious about leaning on someone else. This was a unique story line - and as a single mom, I couldn't help be admire Leah for her devotion to her brother. That said, the realities and book version of taking care of a three year old by yourself seemed worlds apart. I did like the story, and the charters, but I just didn't feel the chemistry between them. As seems to be the case all to often thee days, the book ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not sure I connected enough with the characters to get the next installment of the story (although my curiosity about Ally's new beau might push me over the edge)

I really liked this book.
The story development kept you reading and you soon fell in love with each of the characters.
Not wanting to have any spoilers I'll try my best to not go into any "details".
Leah is a young women with a tough upbringing. At a young age she held the responsibility that most young ladies or adults for that matter would ever dream of. She's independent and doesn't like to lean on anyone. She cares for her 3 yr old brother without a second thought. Her love and devotion is breathtaking.
Chase is a man that knew what he wanted out of life. Tattoos, band member, tongue ring. Yummy! He had quite the opposite upbringing. Being the only male out of 7 children it gave him the kind of perspective that most women crave their man would have.
I like all the other supporting characters as well and thought they added that extra spice.
Why did this book didn't get the full 5 Stars?? Editing could have been much better. The spelling and grammar at times was very frustrating. Some sentences left words out or didn't make sense at all. I really liked this book and would like others to see this story as what it is and not get hung up on all the typos.
The ending left a cliffhanger and I can't wait to continue to read about Leah & Chase!

The writing style did not work for me. Very amateurish.
I paid $.99 and in my opinion it was not even worth that. I got the sample and thought (hoped) that the writing would get better, but it didn't. I loved the premise, but the story was poorly executed.
There was not build-up. The "drama" that happened was so predictable. Leah was annoying.
There was the party-girl BFF (shocking). It could have been so good.

Leah is left to take care of her baby brother after he mother runs off with a man and leaves her children with the grandmother. Leah goes to college, works as a waitress, and takes of her brother when she meets Chase.

Was it with every story told in dual POVs. Not a fan.

My opinion. Reading is subjective. You may love it.

This book has amazingly well developed characters. I almost wish I was an editor because I can see as clear as an untouched snow globe how close this book is to a 5 star, but it is really a 3.5. I rounded up to 4 because of the fact that these characters were freaking amazing! However, it is a wee bit slllloooowww and I got a little bored with Leah temper tantrums and saintly Chase just chillaxin for weeks at a time while she grew up. Don't get me wrong, the poor child had no frame of reference and it was realistic that she had these issues, but it didn't make for a very stimulating read at times.

Now, please allow me a rant. I get that books don't always "scan" or transfer into e-books very easily and that typos happen. I even saw on Amazon that some petty reviewer didn't almost didn't finish this book because of the grammar and typos "on every page" i just sort of rolled my eyes and took a chance on this book. Well, I gritted my teeth through more "your" vs. "you're" issues but the final straw that almost had me googling C.A. Williams' phone number to freaking go ballistic was the fact that at some point every freaking ass person in this books not only says, but starts a sentence with "'Kay" WTF is that!?!?!?!? Unreal. Is it contagious in Bloomington, IN? Is that why every last mother effing person did that??? i almost want to read the book again to count them or highlight each of them because I know the good people of Guinness World Book of Records would want to know about 'Kay being used so much!

Ok...rant over. I enjoyed the overall story. I loved the supporting characters (of course there was a band involved, so I'm in!). I love that Leah found her older more centered loving man and I absolutely love her BFF Ally for being such a supportive force in her life and Caleb's life. I know this series will have a happy ending.

'Kay, I'm off to read Limitless...'kay?

This story has a lot of potential, and I love the premise. Unfortunately, it was a very hard read for me and I felt like I sometimes rushed myself through it because it was dragging on and on and on. The editing is horrible; there are so many run on sentences and tons of missing punctuation, not to mention that there's no clear lines of dialogue between characters. One character will speak, and the next line is the next character, and it gets confusing with no separation, no lead in, no spacing. I also hate the word 'Kay all throughout the book. It's annoying and useless. The characters are pretty easy to relate to, but the whole story lacks depth that I feel would take it to the next level. There were so many things that, if the characters created more connection between themselves and the reader, would have been very powerful emotionally, but in reality, fell flat. Also, the cliffhanger at the end isn't much of a cliffhanger, and didn't really make me want to rush out and get the second book. All in all, a major rewrite could do wonders for this story, but until then, it leaves me felling...blah...and I really wouldn't recommend it.

This was a great story of strength and love between Leah, Caleb and Chase.

Leah is in college trying to hold down a job and take care of her 3-year old brother Caleb, left in her care after her drunk mother takes off. She is making things work and doing a bang up job of it alone, until she meets Chase.

Chase is the resident hottie that lives across the hall, full of tattoos and plays in a band. Leah has no time for Chase in her busy life, but he doesn't take no for an answer.

You can't help but pull for Chase to break through to Leah and win her heart. He is the epitome of bad boy on the outside, but a mush ball on the inside. She has such a wall around her heart, it takes a lot of work for somebody to get to it.

This was a good story, some typos, I usually don't let that distract me too much from reading it. There is a bit of a cliffhanger ending, but the second book is out already so I didn't mind that either.

:O :O :O :O What a way to end the book, sheer torture!!

I enjoyed the book the story and the characters.
One thing totally set me off was that when they were staying the dialogues or talking in the head.. It was like the sentence was over stretched or unless words were added making it seem BLAH to me.

Chasing Leah was a exceptional novel about a college freshman, Leah, who has more responsibility than most and struggles dealing with life, caring for her young brother and falling in love for the first time.

My first thought with this story is, "Ahhhh, damn spelling errors." Granted, I had read this once before and this time the numerous spelling and word errors just kept catching my eye and slowing me down. The story is great but so many errors really takes away from whats happening.

That being said, I loved Chasing Leah, it's like everything you love about typical YA college novels with a little extra ingredients added in. There's Chase the hot next door neighbor and Leah's love interest (though she fights it every chance she can.) Ally her most awesome and flamboyant friend who rocks neon fashion and rainbow duck tape. And Caleb her three year old brother she is raising on her own. Not easy for a college freshman but Leah proves what a strong character she is. When she starts school she's about half way done having taken many of prerequisites beforehand and has a job as a waitress in order to support Caleb.

One great moment in the story is when Chase and Caleb meet. Though he is flirting with Leah at the moment, once he learns Caleb is there he doesn't miss a beat and immediately engages him in conversation and does not assume the worst of Leah's character, like some other guy we meet.

Chase (swoon) is an English major and in a band. Doesn't get much better and boy, he is the sweetest guy ever. Some of the guys in the band, Teddy mostly, portrays his role perfectly. Has a different girl every five minutes and is just very unlikable even as Chase's friend. He never even watches his mouth around lil Caleb.

"Being an English major I love to write poetry, but if I were to confess that to any of the guys that would definitely make me a pussy," Chase.

It was enjoyable when Ally decided to go full Vegan and kept trying to use Caleb as her mini-taste-tester. For a three year-old he has a more daring side than me.

Throughout most of the book, Leah is denying any feelings between her and Chase. Once she gives in, she keeps looking for something bad to happen and often jumps to conclusion because of that fear. She could get a bit annoying at times, but considering Chase is her first real anything, her behavior can be excused. Aside from all that, Leah is an extremely strong character. She has no family to speak of, aside from a grandma who could care less about her and Caleb and really out does herself trying to make a better life for Caleb than she had and she herself is only 18.

Great read and though the ending leaves you with an unanswered question, have no fear part two is here.

I went into this one knowing that it was self-published, but I have read some really good books that were. So I gave it a fair shot at making me a fan. I wish that I could burn it for having wasted my time, but it's an e-copy and Kindles are expensive devices!!! I loved the idea of the story, a college aged girl caring for her little brother and struggling to trust anyone after being screwed over by her Mom. A hot, tattooed musician looking to break through her shell and true love that blossoms between them (I'm a cheesy romantic at heart still!). What I got was a meandering plot, mediocre writing that bordered on torture for my eyes, which are already bad and the butchering of yet another good idea someone else should have had. Or at least this author should have hired a professional editor. The sloppiness of the sentence structures, word choice and over usage of certain phrases had me cringing and rolling my eyes in disgust. How many times could Chase actually freaking smirk??? A lot apparently! And Leah was one of those Mary-Sue heroines that is the obvious case of an author writing herself into her book, a la Stephanie Meyer with Twilight. A heroine with no real faults except an annoying inability to be consistent in her beliefs is annoying at best and revolting at worst. This fell somewhere between the two, due to the adorable presence of her brother Caleb. Even he didn't manage to be very realistic though and I have never met a toddler as well behaved as that kid. Not a single tantrum? No one is that mature at the age of three!!! The accident that she was in only had me wishing that Leah would just die already, so maybe someone more interesting could become the main character or something would finally, effing HAPPEN!!! (but with Allie, an obvious Twilight rip off of Alice as the BFF, this never would have happened anyways). Overall a huge disappointment and I will NOT be reading anything more by this author unless she is picked up by a major publishing house and severely edited. I don't know how I made it to the end - it was a freaking, modern miracle! :()

VERDICT: 1/5 Stars

I really wanted to give this a better rating, but a few things prevented that for me.
*length - I felt it was a bit rushed, Leah and Chase were both Characters that I felt I could get really attached too, but I just fell short of the story in the down times.

*Rush - Because you jump from encounter to encounter you don't get to see the details that lead them to fall in love and it went from zero to 60 MPH so quickly.

That being said, the edit issues in these books are rarely an issue for me. Most of us can miss them while reading without it affecting the story one bit. I have to really seek out issues, but I typically don't. I have seen the ebook versions have issues that the paperbacks don't; even for published authors so it can sometimes just be an issue with the uploading.

But to the story. Leah is struggling to raise her 3 year old brother after her mother ditches her. At college with her brother and her best friend she is not looking for a man in her life, she already has one; Caleb. But then she meets Chase. Chase is a guitarist in a local band and her neighbor - but he is not you typical heart-breaking-hot-as-hell-bad-boy. Raised with 6 sisters, Chase has a good heart and instantly falls for Leah and Caleb.

This one ends on a cliffhanger, but book 2 is out (and it appears to be just a bit shorter) - I did really enjoy the theme of this book and wanted to bump my rating up just a bit....I hope book 2 gives me that little bit more I needed to really fall in love with this series.

SEMI-SPOILER!!
I liked the premise, and I liked the characters at first.. Leah kind of annoyed me a bit.. She sort of sent out mixed signals.. But she is an 18 yr old so I guess that's a maturity thing.. I liked chase a lot until the whole Ashley thing... So much for being hopelessly in love with Leah! "I'll just have a quickie with Ashley...." Annnnnnnd you lost my vote. I know that's a fairly normal guy thought process, but the whole point of chase was that he wasn't a normal guy! Boooo! And then when she stays at his house. Across the hall. She even has to sleep in his shirt?! First of all how easy would it be for her to run across the hall for her own pjs.. Or stay at her own place for that matter.. if he'll be on the couch anyway!!
Not sure if I'll continue reading.. I'm too irritated. (After her accident I couldn't take it anymore.. So boring and enough with the cheesy ass dialogue.) I give up.

There were a lot of typos in this book, enough to be constantly distracted by them. The writing style didn't quite work. The dialogue seemed kind of stilted to me.

Leah was pretty annoying. A drama queen who constantly overreacted. She was always running away when something happened. When she mentioned that she was more mature than most girls her age I LOL'd! Not true at all.

Chase was completely perfect to the point of being unbelievable. I really think any 22 year old guy would cut his losses over all the girlfriend drama. Especially when that girlfriend comes with a kid in tow.

It seemed rather convenient that Leah always had an available babysitter, and it made Caleb seem more like a plot point than an actual character.

It seemed rather rushed and some important parts were kind of glossed over, like the situation with Leah's mom.

It does end on a cliffhanger, but the sequel is out.

Leah has never had an easy life. When she was little she was always taking care of herself because her mom cared more about drinking and hooking up with men then being there for her daughter. One day her mom comes home and tells her that life is going to be changing what she meant is life was going to be changing for Leah. Her mom gets pregnant and doesn't take care of her baby brother any more than she took care of her. So Leah is determined to make sure her brother's childhood is better than hers ever was. During this time Leah meets Allie the woman who will become her best friend and the person who tries to push her to have more in her life. Allie is constantly trying to get Leah and Chase to meet but this only happens in their own time. This is a great story about the love of family, the strength to fight for something more than you ever have before, and never to give up on the chance for true love. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

After reading The Crush I thought I would give another one of the authors books ago so we have Chasing Leah which I enjoyed more than The Crush. I loved the premise girl raising her brother meets hot Inked up guy and let the love/swooning begin. Chase and Leah are cute and so are the side characters. I hate cliff hangers and this is what we got. Plus I read the teaser for book #2 and I'm excited and worried for it. I really enjoy C A Williams books but I think if the author doesn't have a critic partner and a couple of beta readers they should get them as I think it would give her books that extra something special and with the tiny editing issues. Also would love for the novel to be a bit more steamy a be more New Adult instead of YA'ish.

I did consider going with 3 stars but felt generous... I'm thinking 3.5 stars... The lower rating isn't because of the storyline... This book is in serious need of some editing. But otherwise I did like the book.
WTH was with that ending!!! If anyone knows my reviews, I absolutely DISLIKE cliffhangers!! If you feel the same, wait til there is another book for this series!! lol. I really did enjoy reading this one... A little unrealistic, quick paced and seemed like it was on fast forward, but hey... It's a fictional book what do you expect?! I loved the characters and the storyline and just overall enjoyed it... BUT I WANT THAT SEQUEL YESTERDAY!!

I make a point of finishing the books I start but this one is SO painful to read. The story does have a glimmer of potential but that's where it ends. Pardon my French, but from start to finish, it's one convoluted cluster f**k. Bad writing, poor technique, absolute disregard for any kind of attention to detail. Sometimes it's easy to forgive poor writing skills if the story grabs you, if you see at least some attempt at thinking about what the author was writing. This one even lacks spirit. Waste of time. But feel free to make up your own mind, though I'm still angry with myself for making myself finish this.

Oh, WOW! So glad I waited to read this til book 2 came out. I don't think I would have lived if I had to wait with and ending like that. Tears flowing down my face after an emotional book...that ending would kill me without knowing I could dive right into the next book. Love the friendships and bonds between all these characters. Leah is an AMAZING young woman to still be as solid and determined to have a good life after what she's been through. Chase is a dream! Hot, sweet, sincere and full of love. I can't wait to see the next part of their story! Hoping that we'll get stories for Aly and Remy as well!

* spoilers *.... Thought I could get into it but I just couldn't.. I was kinda excited that it was in Indiana since that is where I am from. It was fun reading about places I know or have been but Leah and Chase's story was just kinda blah.. Hot rocker, tattooed god that writes poems and is a nice guy?? Wasn't the bad boy I was looking for. Not to mention I couldn't stop laughing when he took her for relaxation to basically what is a sex hotel ( anyone from Indiana knows you go to the Oasis to do more than enjoy their themed rooms and hot tubs ) I really tried to ignore the negative reviews but the story just didn't flow for me. Had great potential but it was never quite there :(

Chasing Leah was an adorable book that featured the most perfect guy, Chase and a not so perfect girl Leah. Leah has a 3 year old brother Caleb whom she cares for after their mother left them with their grandmother when Caleb was just a baby. She places him as the number one man in her life, that is until Chase comes along. Chase is everything a girl could want in a guy, he is gorgeous, sweet, plays the guitar, sings, writes poetry and loves children, including Caleb. Throughout the book we watch as Chase and Leah battle to remain together fighting real dangers and mental ones. Their ending is a cute one and a very happy one too.

I would give this 3.5/5 but it balances more towards the 3 than the 4
The story isnt bad, and i mean Chase sounds like a character from my dreams, but there was somthing missing. Thank god there werent any twists, i wouldnt have been able to deal with that. I was almost half expecting Gage to pop out at any moment and attack her. So i guess that was good. But there were holes in the story- what did the letter say, why did Ally dump Sky? Stuff like that.
It wasnt a bad read, just not the best ive read.

Leah had so much on her plate from raising her brother to her college degree. Leah experience so much heartache that you wished something would go right. Chase was "sex on a stick" as her bff Ally calls him and knew they would be "soul mates". Who can resist chase he is the sentimental guitarist who screams bad boy but truly is a good one! You fall for Chase and hope him and Leah make it! Super quick read and glad I didn't have to wait forever for the second installment of this story!

Just ok

This isn't the worst thing I've ever read but it's close. It was just so booooooorrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggg. There was no excitement or build-up. The love scenes were very stale. The whole book was so cliche. Very predictable. No spikes or peaks what do ever. I will not read another book by this author again. And yes the book was filled to capacity with grammatical errors and the word 'kay.
