Hell House

Rate this book
Everyone is invited to come inside, but only a chosen few have been selected to move into a house that may or may not unite them all. Whatever happens, the last person standing will have bragging rights, but they also may have lifetime scars to go along with it.

For three months, living in one bedroom, using one bathroom, dining at the same kitchen table, sharing one TV and having no access to family or cell phones, this may be a serious problem for the most controversial characters you’ve grown to love or possibly hate.

Roc Dawson from Full Figured, Chase Jenkins from Don’t Even Go There, Sylvia McMillan from SLICK, Jada Mahoney from How Can I Be Down?, Jamal “Prince” Perkins from Street Soldier and Jaylin Rogers from the Naughty Series will attempt to put their overwhelming differences aside and calm their unique personalities. Without supervision, though, anything inside of this house is bound to happen, and nothing or no one is off limits. Drama will be the main course, and it will be served by cutthroat individuals determined to have it all. Topped with a hint of raunchiness and manipulation, some may not be able to resist temptation. But survival by any means necessary will remain the primary motive. Who will be the last woman/man standing or who will walk out, slamming the door behind them screaming…damn!

This is my first time to reading the reality tv drama book. Brenda Hamptons did a good job. Hell House Reality TV Drama is a good read. I'm happy that she's bring the Jaylin Rogers and the rest of character back in this book but I haven't read Slick, Don't Even Go There and Street Soldiers. I'm on my way to reading part 2 of this book because I want to know who went home from this book.

This was so funny. I was glad to hear back from Jaylin. Yes I LOVE YOU JAYLIN!!!

The story was set up like the many reality shows that we love. It also had just as much drama. On to Hell House 2

Good Job Brenda Hampton.

The reality is...

This was a good read that I would recommend to others. There were some parts that seemed a little slow to me. However, I was still interested in the book overall. I will be moving on to the next book.

Um...Just so not for me. The woman are skanks, and the men are unfaithful pigs. While I can see the humor--mostly in the form of Jada (she's the only one I like, but the other characters think she's insane), the downright nastiness of the people in general put me off.

One girl flashes her cooch and wants to have sex with darn near every man there. (It wasn't lost on me how she is constantly correcting another chick's grammar too, while at the same time not saying a word to the man she wants to diddle and he can't speak English) The very first night they're in the house, two people almost do--no condoms or nothing. Gross. I mean, obviously these people really get around. To not practice some caution--are all these people ignorant?

One guy almost chokes Jada in the closet. And women find this man sexy????

And while at first I was hooked... It's like driving past a bad car wreck. You know it's bad but you can't help but look, I bailed at 40% after everyone nearly had sex. Why? There isn't even any challenges! The whole TV show is just...IDK...survive living in the same house? No challenges, contests...

Eh.

This book is about a reality TV game where three guys and three girls are playing to be the last person to leave the "Hell house" in order to win 100 000$. What a motivation! I liked the idea of this game, it reminds me a little of some reality TV shows that I can usually found annoying because of all the fake drama, though.

I was a little scared to have too much drama in this book and get annoyed with the characters. There was a little of that but it was mostly a good read for me. It changes from other books. About the girls, ... where do I start? The only one that I liked was Chase. The point of view of the two others made me jealous for the main character, and that's not a feeling I enjoy. Chase managed finally to stand up for herself and I was glad about that.

***I wanted to thank the author and publisher for letting me read and review a digital copy of this book.***

This is certainly a very creative and oh so interesting concept from Brenda Hampton. I am only familiar with Jaylin's character, but I didn't feel lost at all not knowing the others. As an avid watcher of reality tv, this book read just like a reality show. It didn't feel like a book at all. Everyone was something else. I'm especially enjoying Roc and of course Jaylin so far. Prince is my least favorite and I'd be happy to see him leave the house. Can't wait to read the next installment.

This book had me shaking my head at the stupidity and cockiness of some of the characters to laughing out loud and the stupidity and cockiness of those same characters. This was seriously a non-stop page-turner. I have already started Hell House 2.

This is definitely a book that will be loved by the readers who read the novels that all characters were in. For me it wasn't what I was anticipating it to be until the last few chs. It took me a month to read b/c it was hard to stay focused. Thru most of it it seemed like each character did more of "look at me" instead of "here's the plot to get you out." Some of the events were a trip. Although it was not a 5 star I can't help but wonder what happens next so I'll be getting HH2.

This was not bad. I did not move on to the next installment, though. I guess if I had already read the books the characters had previously been in, I would have been a little more invested in the outcome of who would win. It was entertaining enough to finish book one and one day I may go back and finish the series.

This book was a great read. I love that the author took a risk and kept the characters independently strong and funny

Hilarious!

Hell House was a funny read. It is my first read by Brenda Hampton but certainly won't be my last. It was well written and left me wanting more.

The story takes place on the set of a reality show, called Hell House. Six people who don't know each spend 3 months together in a house. They can't leave the house and can't have cell phones. The last person standing gets $100,000.00. The first person to arrive is Roc. Roc has found the love of his life in Dessa Rae. Can he stay true to her living amongst 3 beautiful women. Then arrives Chase. Chase is self proclaimed woman on the move when it comes to men. If she wants a man, she will go after him married or not. She wants to appear to have it all together but it's apparent that she doesn't. Jaylin, Mr. Fine but Bourgeoisie. But don't get it twisted, he is not the pretty boy he seems to be and will quickly take it to the streets. Jada can cook her but off. She is plus size and confident. She comes across as not too intelligent, but don't sleep on her. Sylvia and Jaylin have a mutual friend that causes them to try to keep things cool between them. She seems to be the good girl at first, but not so much. Lastly, we have Prince. The young "street soldier". He comes from the streets, but is still trying to find his way in the legit world. Who will be the last one standing?

This was a light and comical read. There was not a real strong plot other than the competition. It was intended to be funny and kept us on our toes. My favorite character was Jada. She was hysterical to me. What she lacked in intelligence she made up with her quick sense of humor. My least favorite character was Sylvia. I did not dislike her, but she was my least favorite. She was too wishy washy. I loved when Jada faked the heart attack when she saw Jaylin naked. It was hilarious. Jaylin's attempt to revive her showed a soft spot under all that male hardness. I developed a crush on Jaylin. I loved the playful banter between he and Jada and hopes he would have taken care of her instead of Sylvia. There is still time or is there? We were left hanging at the end.
If you want an easy, funny and sexy read, you will enjoy it. I give it 4 stars.

Hell House brings together some of the most controversial characters Brenda Hampton has ever written. Jaylin, Roc, Prince, Jada, Sylivia and Chase have been thrown into one house where anything is bound to happen. Hate em or love em, you can't deny that they leave you with the gift of gab. When the plot thickens and plans are set, the house really seems too crowded for comfort.

Ohhhhh I loved it! I wish it was longer!!! I enjoyed catching up on some of my favs..especially Jaylin and Roc. Glad to see everyone is still the same and the interaction between the characters was dynamic..and funny as hell. I could not stop laughing at some scenes..or lusting from others..whew! This house is a trip!

To gain background info on some characters I read their stories first:

Jaylin- The Naughty series
Roc- Full Figured 1, 3 and 5
Chase- Don't even go there
Prince- Street Soldier 1 & 2
Jada- How can I be down & No Justice no Peace
Sylivia- Slick

You can follow without reading their stories but I enjoyed getting to know each character and the reason why they are the way they are. Seems like a lot buttttt these were some good reads; you will NOT be disappointed!!!

Some People Really Need a Hell House/Reality Experience!

Imagine finding out there is a novel with some of the characters from previous Brenda Hampton novels all thrown together in a house for 3 months with $100,000 at stake. Who will survive, who will get kicked out, who will ultimately be the last one standing in this reality show drama filled book?

“Hell House” was very engaging. Some of the characters were still behaving as they had in the past as old habits die hard. There was deceit, mind games, attitudes, and personality clashes. Jaylin, Roc, Prince, Sylvia, Jada and Chase were all determined to be the last man/woman standing.

Readers will really love to hate some of the characters and find themselves cheering for some of them as well as cursing others. Readers get to experience each of these characters and find out just how far they are willing to go to win this challenge.

I really did enjoy the novel. Hate that the sequel will not be out until next year but I will be anticipating it and waiting patiently. Brenda Hampton, you did your thing as usual. Keep up the great work!

Brenda Hampton has taken the characters from several of her previous novels and incorporated them into a reality TV setting similar to that of Big Brother. Three men and three women are asked to participate in a competition to see who can survive for a $100,000 prize. The backgrounds of each of the participants is very diverse and causes conflict as they attempt to live in close quarters with no outside contact to the outside world. Sexual tensions and animosity runs high as each individual takes on a competitive stance.

HELL HOUSE is the first in a series of book that is centered on the reality television scene. Although I am familiar with the characters from the previous novels penned by Hampton, there is very little character development. Therefore, new readers to Hampton’s work will not understand their background if they haven’t read the other books. What is lacking as far as character development is more than made up for in the drama that unfolds. The ending is a cliffhanger that will have readers anxiously awaiting the next book.

This book pulled me in and made me feel like I was in the Hell House with them! It definitely has me wanting to go back and read the books that these characters were originally in. They were on my "to-read" list and had I known this book was going to include characters from past stories I may have read them first. I have a love/hate relationship with hot head Jaylin; Roc seems like a reformed thug with a heart; Prince seems a little lost. Chase was the most annoying to me but she proved she wasn't such a pushover; Jada, oh Jada lol, that mouth of hers was too funny, both the smartness and her use of improper grammar; Sylvia seemed to be the most down to earth, choosing to be in the house to hopefully help heal... I don't think I'd choose any place with the word "Hell" in it to try to heal. I'm going to have to read part 2 soon because the end of the book left you hanging in a major way! I know one thing, I would not sign up to be apart of a reality show at the Hell House.

This was like one of the most interesting books I have ever read. My favorite character was Jada because she was always so blunt and outspoken, like you couldn't tell her anything about herself that she didn't want to hear or else it was an issue.

A part in this story that really caught my attention was when Prince went inside of Jaylin's coat pocket, tore up his letter from his wife and daughter, and didn't even fess up to the issue. Instead Sylvia, the quite and innocent girl, stood up for him and said that it was her just to save Prince from getting "The Business". That part was my favorite because Jaylin seriously seemed like he didn't trust Sylvia and didn't notice that there was something fishy about the fact that Sylvia said that she touched his stuff when they had "business" going on between themselves.
Whoops,spoiler alert!!

Overall this book was a blast to read, and I just can't wait to get my hands on "Hell House 2"!!

Wow...I went in thinking I may hate this book but ended up LOVING it. I believe this is my first Brenda Hampton book so I wasn't familiar with the characters but I was able to follow right along and the flashbacks for each person helped me understand why they were acting the way they were. My favorite character would have to be hands down that damn Jada!!! She was hilarious.I've never read a book that was set on a reality show and I love reality tv. This was a really cool way for Brenda to bring characters of her novels together. I hated that damn Chase and I can't wait to start reading the older novels because that heffa sounds like a handful. Brenda Hampton has just made a new fan. :) I really can't wait for part 2 of Hell House to come out because this one left us hanging just before the first person kicked out of the house was announced. I hope it was Chase or Prince.

What the fuck..........
This book is a total waste of time and ink.
I chose this book because of the title. I found it interesting unfortunately it is one of the two things that I found interesting about this book.
I regret to say that there are to more books to this story.
The only other book I hated as much as this book is fifty shades of gray which was porn without a story where as I can't even say that about this story.
This story didn't only have no story it had no end.
This is an adult book.
It was filled with stereo types and I don't like stereo types. It was a reality show but in book form.
I don't like reality shows.
Which brings me to the second thing that I liked about the book and that was at the beginning of every chapter there was a tv set.

OMG, what did I just read.

Honestly this book was LOL horrible. The writing wasn't to bad, but the plot and complete concept of it? It was rubbish.

Did it hold my attention? No.
Did I struggle to finish it? Yep.

What was supposed to be an ingenious and gritty novel turned out to be well for me anyway a really bad laughable comedy. Because all i did throughout this was laugh at the the characters. Even the fighting scenes were terrible.

I dont even know what to recommend to make it better because to me, its a lost cause. I would not read any of the sequels and probably anything by Hampton again. Unless I wanted a good laugh anyway.

I don't know what made me want to read this book, especially since I have no interest in watching reality television, but it did peak my interest. It did actually feel like I was watching a show so kudos to the author for the authentic writing. The characters however I found to be some of the most arrogant, self serving, ungrateful people but I guess that was the cast she was going for in the book since they were on a reality TV show. There were some shocking moments and some laugh out loud funny moments. Not to spoil the ending of the first book but I couldn't wait to see who was voted off first so I did return to my library for book 2.

The premise of the story is not as far from reality as one would think. As a reality TV watcher, I found the characters in this novel, though flawed, richly interesting. I can not say that I liked one any more than any other, but I did become emotionally involved in the outcome of the story. The pacing was fast, the dialogue appropriate to the characters and the situations, the story well plotted, and the ease of immersion strong. It is a raw look at human nature not in its finest hour, but well worth the read.

I really enjoyed this novel. Although I wasn't familiar with the characters that were taken from other novels, the concept was great. The execution was a tad bit slow. When I think about reality survivor shows, I'm used to challenges and head honchos. I didn't get this from Hell House and was a little disappointed. However, I laughed so much at the characters ever clashing personalities. I will have to get the second one to find out what is going to happen next!

Disclaimer: I received a copy from Simon and Schuster (publicist) to provide a review.

However, I read the first few pages and no longer read this genre. Therefore, I alerted the publicist already on this since last year. I do not want to give a 1 star because I do not like it due to change in reading interests.

I will pay it forward by putting this Urban fiction read in a Goodie Box to give to an avid/voracious reader who loves to read these type of book reads.

I loved the descriptive writing from the first page of the book. It is definitely a page turner and a quick read. I hated to get to the last page as there are many questions still unanswered to the characters in the house. You could actually envision being there as the women fight for the men and the scene where they were in the pool making out. I would definitely read this book again and can't wait to get my hands on part #2.

couldn't really get over the introductions. It sounded like a typical reality show, which was good, but it didn't hold my attention just like a typical reality show. No problem with the reading but the book, but it not my genre. I guess the fact that all the characters are from previous books, and i have not read them so i really do not know their background. Maybe i'll give it a second try if i read more Brenda Hampton books, but for now, i give it a two out of five.

Excellent storyline. Many of the characters from the previous novels appear in the house and literally all Hell breaks loose. You will love to hate most of the characters and will be left hanging at the end saying what! I really loved this novel and I am now on the part 2 to see who left the house first. Great job Brenda! Keep writing I will keep reading!

The story started off kind of slow basically a introduction of the characters.... I was waiting for someone type of competition to begin. the women spent their time lusting after the men and fighting among themselves first eliminate .I'm curious as to how part 2is gonna pick up. and who will be eliminated.

Good read filled with drama and a little comedy. The book is written to have a reality show feel. The characters have been brought together to see who can be the last man or woman standing to win $100,000. They are only given rules to follow but they create their own drama. I'm headed to book 2 to see what happens next!!
