If Ivory’s fellow flight attendants whisper that she has ice in her veins, they’d be right. She’s spent years ruthlessly suppressing her dangerous ice powers, pretending she didn’t grow up wild on the tundra.
Her legendary coolness has held solid—until a crazed attacker snaps her composure, unleashing her ice beast and blowing her cover. And she’s not sure if the man who defuses the situation is any less dangerous.
When Panther’s trans-Atlantic catnap is interrupted by Ivory’s ice spear through his mark’s gut, he doesn’t hesitate to claim her as one of the Manhattan Ten. It’s the only way to shield her from prosecution. It doesn’t hurt that the Nordic beauty puts his inner cat on the prowl.
Panther tempts Ivory in every smoldering way, but to let him melt her resistance is a risk she can’t afford. But when her past rises up to claim her, Pan is caught in the crossfire…and the only way to save him is to let the beast claim her, body and soul.
Product Warnings: Contains one smoldering ice vixen and the sexy beast man who wants to get his claws all over her. Make sure your icemaker is in tip-top shape before reading. Mukluks optional.
Ivory was originally book #2 in the Manhattan Ten series; but with the 2019 re-release for the books, the author moved it to be book #1 in the series.
If Elsa from Frozen and a Wolverine-Jaguar-like X-Men character had a book baby for adults, it would be this one. It's full of heroes with super powers, that have some of the same problems than us so it would make them human-like, full of action and with a build-up steamy romance... it's short, so you can read it really fast and you will want to read more from Ivory, trust me.
Many thanks to the INscribe Digital for the complimentary e-copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Lola Dodge kicks off a new series of superhero romance novellas with Ivory, the story of a Scandinavian goddess (maybe? it's never quite clear on this point?) who finds herself mixed up with a superhero team. It's 80% romance and 20% superhero fiction, if that's relevant to you.
This book didn't work for me, for a lot of reasons. I liked the premise: super-powered flight attendant kills someone on her flight and ends up having to lie low with a team of supers who are investigating a serial killer focused on supers. So far, so good.
The execution, however, was not my style.
We can start with Valdís, our heroine. I know that she's trying to lay low to avoid detection after having left her tribe of hunters in some undefined Arctic-ish part of the world. She talks about it a lot, without ever really explaining what that situation is. Is she immortal? How long has she been gone? Why would her people hunt her down if she's been sent into exile? Or did she just run away? Her mother will do what if she's captured? Val's backstory is never more than her desire to stay out of the public eye, and it's weird.
Then there's our hero, Jag. The author intends for this to be short for Jaguar--he's a shifter and that's his animal form--but it may be more accurate to think of it as short for "jag off" because he's a complete tool. I don't love aggressive, possessive heroes in romance: this guy *literally* growls when another man makes neutral contact with Val. For her part, Val shuts down his flirting on several occasions, but Jag will not be deterred. This is one of those stories where the heroine says no with her words, but yes with her body.
The final straw was that the turning point for her affections is when she witnesses Jag's transformation to his animal form. She fixates on petting him, and that rubbed me the wrong way. Not here for the aggressive brown hero who wins the standoffish Nordic lady when he purrs at her feet. She's not here for the caveman behavior until she can pet him? Please, no, thank you.
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in order to facilitate this review.
I should start by explaining that this book has been published before in 2013, but it was bk 2 in the series then. The books have been switched around a little and it is now bk 1 in the Manhattan Series. I’ll be honest normally I would read “super heroes” and scrunch up my nose and think no immediately but the cover of this book really caught my attention enough to make me read the blurb and in turn interested in reading the book. I really love the cover in the neon-esque ice blue writing on the midnight blue background. Then with the Manhattan skyline at the top of the book, the jaguar head to represent Jag and the masquerade mask that symbolise the fact Valdis is in hiding at the beginning of the story. Then of course there’s the snowflake and ice spears that characterise Valdis.
At the beginning of the novella length story, Valdis or Val as her colleagues call her is working as an air stewardess, as she has been doing for quite some time. Today is only slightly different as the air craft is so hot which is causing the passengers to overheat and become more irritable than usual. It seems the more elite passenger in first class are wanting more attention and Val is moved up to offer help to the stewardess already there.
When Val is attacked which puts both her life and those on the plane’s lives in danger her cool façade and determination to hide what she truly is slips and she automatically takes her assailant down. There’s a mixture of shock, horror and gratitude from the passengers. Val is devastated as she had worked hard to remain off the radar. She had run away from her tribe and their way of life and wanted to fit in with normal society, and now it would all have been for nothing. There would be reporters, and meetings with the authorities, and maybe even people from her tribe sent to kill her now they knew where she was! Then along comes Jag, a “hot in the handsome sense” guy who says he is from the Manhattan Ten and they can help and protect Val.
Of course, there is much more to tell, Val the super heroes is renamed Ivory by the press and the name seems to be sticking. Then there’s the hot and cold relationship between Ivory and Jag. We also learn more about what the Manhattan Ten do and in this novella, they are trying to track down a man or group intent on killing those with super hero powers of any sort. We are also briefly introduced to the other members in the Manhattan Ten. The leader is Tank, the organiser of the group is Angel, and there is the super-fast Jet.
I felt quickly pulled into the novella, wanting to know who Val/Ivory was hiding from and why. I immediately fell in love with the lovable, Jag even though he is a dangerous animal when he shifts. Jag is so laid back, yet at the same time gives off such a tough guy image. Yet he shows a softer, perhaps more vulnerable side when with Ivory. I also adored the banter between Jag and Ivory. It was kind of sweet how quickly Jag became so possessive over the woman he had just met on a plane, though took a while to realise that his animal side that was claiming her too. I thought the mixture of kick ass tough female crossed with the vulnerability of not wanting to hurt anyone around her made Ivory a complex, interesting and lovable character. I think there is a great mix of characters and am looking forward to reading much more of this series. I am particularly looking forward to learning more about both Tank and Angel.
I should point out due to certain language and content I would agree with the categorisation of the book being 18+ Adult fiction. Don’t think all the super heroes are shifters though as they are not, they have different powers.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing the novella were that I really did enjoy reading this one and am looking forward to reading more of this potentially great series.
To sum up super heroes aren't what I would usually choose to read, but the cover (the new ink monster version) initially caught my eye and I fancied reading something a little different and I have to say I really enjoyed reading it. I will be looking out for the rest of the series being released as I definitely want to read more!
This superhero romance novella is entertaining from start to finish. We are introduced to The Manhattan Ten, a group of supers who use their powers openly to protect the people, and Ivory is their latest (reluctant) recruit.
The story moves admittedly quick as it is just a novella, but it wasn't as shallow or lacking as many novella romances tend to be. I got a sense of character, world, and plot despite the swift pacing and although I might've wished for more time and depth, it was still a fun read with a beginning, middle, and end.
The Manhattan Ten is a novella series worth exploring. Exciting, fast-paced, steamy, unique, and a perfect bite-sized package of entertainment. I'm so thrilled that Dodge regained the rights to her series so she can do this re-release and finally introduce these characters to her readers!

Val is a flight attendant hiding from her family and her power of controlling ice. After she uses her powers on a flight she’s approached by a jaguar shifter and asked to join a group of superhero’s. She becomes part of the team and her name changes to Ivory.
I liked the mysterious element with the serial killer targeting supers. It added tension to the plot. A also liked that Ivory was a tall, powerful capable woman. The chemistry between jag and ivory was hot and even though the book was short it didn’t feel rushed. I liked the way Jag got under Ivory’s cool exterior, they complimented each other very well. I’m also interested in Tank, his superpower of reading people’s minds is fascinating and I can’t wait to hear more when it’s his story.
This was like a cross between x-men and an urban fantasy shifter novel with some romance. It was enjoyable maybe a bit on the short side, but it just made me want to read more.
Thank you to netgalley and Ink Monster publishing for sending me this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts off with a literal bang as Valdis (soon to be known as Ivory) fights off an attack on a plane with her secret powers. In order to avoid trouble, she then reluctantly joins the Manhattan 10, a group of superheroes who openly protect people.
This was a short fun read that was steamy in the right places and also had a few surprises up its sleeve. The author has a tendency to use short sentences and it mostly worked for me as it relayed a sense of urgency but from time to time it made the flow a bit choppy.
I received a copy of this through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
3.5 stars.
This has actually been re-branded as the first book in the Manhattan Ten novella series.
A sexually charged superhero short story from start to finish. If you want something that doesn't require a lot of depth but has some really great sexual chemistry with it's characters then look no further. A very quick read, action packed from start to finish.
This wasn’t my cup of tea at all. Everything went way too fast for my liking. I like a slow, well explained story. But this book just kept throwing information at me. I also expected more superheroe stuff.
I really wanted to like it. Because of some reviews that put it as Elsa and Wolverine had a book baby. And it seemed amazing...But meh, the characters were okay, but i just disliked the chemistry, sadly.
This is a re-release of a superhero-romance series (The Manhattan Ten) in which this was previously book 2. It's now book 1 and it's utterly fantastic.
Ivory is an ice-elemental super who's been hiding among humanity for years. When a surprise attack "outs" her powers, she's forced to seek refuge with super-hotty Jag and the Manhattan 10, a superhero conglomerate that puts Lola Dodge about 6 years ahead of her time, since the original Ivory came out that long before Amazon Prime's The Boys.
Fans of The Boys who love romance will adore this story.
Ivory is not as dark (or as cynical) as the Amazon Prime blockbuster, but it's just as grown-up. And the romance element is handled brilliantly. The book contains some explicit sex, but there's enough of a ramp-up to make the romance angle highly satisfying.
One of my pet peeves as a reader is when romance books start out sweetly innocent and then turn explicit in the middle with no real warning. If I'm going to enjoy a romance (and this is just my personal preference), there needs to be some burn leading up to it, and there needs to be a layered story around it.
Ivory has both, with a crew of bad guys who are out there killing supers (again, ahead of its time), and a troubled past that has Ivory herself terrified by her sudden publicity. I loved the story, and I only wish the next book in the series were also about Ivory and Jag because I love them together and I want to read more!!!
Still, there's nothing wrong with having more than one favorite super couple. If I fall in love with them all this hard, I'll be begging for a book 5 that brings them all together!!!
Bottom Line: A 5-star superhero-romance with a layered plot, juicy heat, and a healthy dose of action in a quick page-turner!
Thank you to the author and Net Galley for providing a review copy, which in no way affected my opinion of the book.
While Ivory is the second book in the series, its events actually take place before Temptress. However, each book reads like a standalone, so you can read them in whichever order you prefer. I am glad that I read Ivory second though, because it’s even better than the first book! Again, we’re following a woman with super powers who’s attempting to stay under the rader. Valdis aka Ivory (as the public names her when they discover her) is an airline attendant running from her past. On a flight from Aukerland to Los Angeles, the air conditioning goes out, so she uses her ice powers to help keep passengers cool. Of course there’s a bad guy on board who takes notice, and Val has no choice but to take him out.
Someone else takes notice of Val on that flight. One of the Manhattan Ten, Panther, is on board tracking the guy who attacked her. He was sleeping though, hence Val taking the situation into her own hands. The fight thrusts her into the lime light and the only way to avoid jail time was to join the league of superheros. Not what she wants at all. However, Ivory is now working closely with Panther, and he’s the first man to get her icey blood stirring. Unlike Temptress, there is a pretty detailed and hot sex scene. Those two just cannot keep their hands and lips off of each other!
Fans of Paranormal Romance will likely enjoy this superhero twist on the genre. I also think that shifter lovers can appreciate it too, since one of Panther’s powers is to turn into a panther, obviously. There’s plenty of action so there’s some Urban Fantasy crossover, too. I just really enjoyed Ivory. It’s fun, fast moving, and sexy. I cannot wait for more of these superhero romances!
I'm rounding up on this rating, because there's a lot of unanswered questions by the end of it, and most of it has to do with the lack of world building. First off, where does this book fit in the timeline? It doesn't seem like Tank has met Temptress yet, but nor was there any real mention of Ivory in Temptress' book. Also, who exactly are Ivory's people? Where does she come from? For that matter, where does Panther come from? I really would enjoy the series more if there was more info like that in these books. I understand that they're supposed to be novellas, but they're good! I think readers could handle a little more world building.
Ignoring these questions, you're left with a decent beach read that has some action and very steamy bedroom scenes. I really like that these books, while showcasing the bedroom's steamy side, also has a plot that engages the reader. I'm still going to keep up with the series, and would recommend them to those that like superhero romances, but the lack of world building is getting very frustrating for this reader.
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This was a very quick read and a pretty good story as well. I really liked Ivory and Jag. They are both strong willed and determined to do things their way, so to see them butt heads over and over was entertaining. Plus the attraction between the two was crazy explosive.
I'm intrigued about this world with supers and how they have deemed them as heroes. It reminds me of X-Men and The Incrdibles. I may have to seek out some other books in this series to see what other mysteries they uncover and how they save the day.
An effective genre cross, this Superhero Romance Novella is enthralling from start to finish. The Manhattan Ten, are a group of superhero's who openly use their powers for protection (gasp, yes openly).
Within a few chapters, the author had effectively woven together the plot-line, world and characters into a dynamically altered narrative that left the reader wanting more. Whilst this may have been too quickly, leaving room for depth and development, this is something easily justified by being the first book in the series - plenty of room for growth.
This is the second book in the Manhattan Ten series, and I loooooove it. Lola's face paced writing makes it a quick and easy read. It's got just enough action and romance to make this girl happy. Can't get enough of it! Read Temptress first, and then read this one!!! :)
Liked this one better that than the first one! But I noticed Continuity Errors. !!! Because it was short, I feel like some steps were cut out in the character development, but it was still great!
A sexually charged superhero short story from start to finish. If you want something that doesn't require a lot of depth but has some really great sexual chemistry with it's characters then look no further. A very quick read, action packed from start to finish.
This was an interesting and exciting novella with multiple positive aspects: romance, superheroes, shifters, and bad-asses. The story flowed well and the ending follows a consistent plot.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and INscribe Digital for offering me the chance to read and review this e-arc. All opinions are my own. ---- ALL THE STARS. I was immediately gripped into this story and found myself staying up into the late hours of the night to get my fill of this amazing, page-turning romance. Needless to say, I had to sleep at some point, but as soon as I was awake (and even during parts of my work day) I squeezed in as much reading as I could until I finished this book and I am absolutely speechless. The perfect amount of romance, intimacy, adventure, mysterious thrill, and happily ever after was all in this tiny little novella-sized book. This book felt so much longer than the 30k words that were written, and I'm craving more of this fiery couple!
I'm honestly ashamed it took me so long to read this, considering I'm now going through the kindle store and trying to find every 'superhero romance' I can get my hands on. I didn't know I needed this until it was handed to me on a silver platter and I am hungry for more!
In fact, I'm immediately going and preordering the sequel because I'm so excited for the next book!
Review: 3.5 Stars I received this book from NetGalley for review.
This was a very enjoyable, albeit it short, read. I kind of wish it had been longer. Kind of the only reason I didn't give it a higher rating.
I really liked the characters and the setting. But I would have liked to have more information on both the world and the characters. With this being a novella, things felt kind of rushed. There wasn't as much character development for me to buy the romance the way I would have liked.
There was also kind of a lack of worldbuilding in the sense that I don't really understand where the Superpowered people come from. If this is a world where supers always existed, or if an event happened that created them.
I look forward to reading more from this series, and I hope more is explained in later books.
This was a fun introduction to the Manhattan Ten, a group of superheroes that work together in New York.
I really loved this book, it was short and to the point, with an excellent plot, sizzling chemistry and a good few witty one liners. I’m not usually a fan of possessive men, but Ivory more than meets Jag in terms of power, so the balance is there in their relationship by the end of the book.
I love the set up of the world, I love the various powers of the ten (which I look forward to discovering more about in the future), I love the pacing (exciting action, but not too stressful for me). The author has really got this spot on, and I’ll certainly be reading future volumes!
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
ONE EXCITING ADVENTURE!!! Ah snap! Lola breaks the chain, charters the course and conquers the passage. Imparting well rounded scenario's, ramping up the excitement and adrenaline with such intensity and skill, melding this gem together flawlessly. Bucking the odds, blazing the playing field, propelling this baby into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, throwing it into a tailspin with stunning results. The chemistry is intense, sizzling and palpable. The personalities are well matched and blended. The characters and scenes are written with such realism and depth it makes for one outstanding experience. Remarkable job Lola, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Lola Dodge has a fun new series about Ivory ( ebook from INscribe Digital,) a member of a tribe that uses ice abilities to hunt in the Polar regions. She’s found her way to civilization, working as a flight attendant and hiding her abilities. Unfortunately her flight loses air-conditioning and a passenger who hates people with powers tries to kill her. That brings her to the attention of Jag, a Jaguar changer and member of New York’s Manhattan Ten. Jag recruits her and soon she has to deal with someone who is killing people with powers. This is a fun beginning of a series that is fun, but a bit heavy on the romance.
An ice princess. A jaguar shifter. She’s a flight attendant who wants nothing to do with super heroes. Hiding her ice powers. Hiding from her family. Hiding is a full-time job, but Ivory can only suppress her inner warrior if she wants to keep the normal life she’s built from nothing. He’s a career hero and a member of the legendary Manhattan Ten. Tall, dark, and shifter, the concrete jungle is his playground. Jag takes nothing seriously until Ivory tempts his inner predator. This was a decent read. It was a pretty quick to read. The characters were likable and the overall plot was good. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Ivory and Jay. She's an ice princess who literally can throw ice spears. Jag is a shifter that turns into a Jaguar. They meet on a plane when she takes down an antisuper. Now she's thrust into the spotlight that only the Manhatten ten, a team is supers that fight the bad guys. But when someone from her past shows up all bets are off. Lots of action.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A superhero origin story. Ivory, a combination of Elsa and Thor, is outed from her civilian existence and unwillingly joins a team of superheroes.
It was a very quick read, and folks who are really into superhero novels and comics might enjoy this. I am so over superheroes right now though. After 10+ years of Marvel movies, we are long overdue for creative works to really play with the genre and do something new, such as HBO's new Watchmen series. To contrast, I didn't think Ivory added anything substantive to the genre.
I’ve never read a superhero romance before and I tell you what - I’m hooked! At least by Lola Dodge. Really enjoyed this novella. A great length and a good mix of action, romance, steam and world building. This book definitely drops you right Into the action but I enjoyed the fast paced start and with a little patience you will learn everything you need to know throughout the course of the book. Can’t wait to continue this series!

Ivory is the first book in the new Manhattan Ten series by Lola Dodge. I've read several books published by Ink Monster and never been disappointed but this is my first Lola Dodge book. She had me hooked right out of the gate. Her original twist on superheroes captured my attention and left me sleep-deprived. Ivory, the ice princess finds her perfect match in her hot partner Jag. I'm even more excited to see the next book in the series will arrive soon, check it out!
That cover, wow. This cover is completely eye catching! It was the first thing I noticed when browsing books and after reading the description I had to put in a request.
Superhero type erotic romance it has everything I enjoy in a book. Quick, easy to follow and loveable characters. It was easy get captivated in the story. Nice flow and the romance was hot. I'll be picking up the rest of the series!
Thanks for the opportunity to read this book, I really enjoyed it.
