Bestselling author Jim Benton is back, continuing a new spin on a favorite series! Dear Dumb Diary, Just when I was pretty sure we could let the Student Awareness Committee quietly die a dignified death like some majestic old elephant or the Square Dancing Club, Angeline has to be aware of something. Great. And, of course, it couldn't be something interesting like nail polish or why maybe there should be a special class in nail polish and how to get it out of your beagle's ear. (Mom, if you're reading this, I'm not admitting anything. Somebody else could have painted a heart in his ear.)Angeline just had to be aware of one of those THINGS THAT ADULTS LIKE.
Benton began his career in a custom design t-shirt shop where he started designing his own characters. At the same time, Jim did illustrations and artwork for magazines and newspapers. People magazine named him "the most visible cartoonist in America" .
Benton also created greeting cards and worked in the magazine and publishing industry. In 1998, his SpyDogs characters became an animated series, The Secret Files of the Spy Dogs, that aired on Fox Kids. Licensing his own creations brought them widespread attention on products, such as It's Happy Bunny, The Misters, Just Jimmy and more.
Benton currently lives in Michigan, where he operates out of his own studio.
This is my favorite book of the 4 that I've read in this series. It is VERY funny, I laughed aloud like a crazy person many times. It is witty, smart, a page-turner, awesomely-illustrated, loads of fun, and with a great message. I am eager to purchase and read the other books in this nerdy/awesome series :)
One final Dear Dumb Diary in the Cycle that has inspired millions around the world! (and yes, folks, Stinker and his Dogg Pound are back! Insert Handel's Hallelujah Chorus here!) Jamie and Isabella are as close as friends should be without the need for knuckle sandwiches at close proximity.....sometimes. Isabella is as tough as they come, and when they DO COME....well, let's put it this way: expect your city block to become a war zone when SHE struts in your radius! But THEN: the most horrid THING has come to Mackerel Middle to change things forever--Dicky, a little boy with a face even Gilbert Gottfried wouldn't wake up to if HE had a facial like Dicky! He's so ugly--he's CUTE! He's a Stinker kinda cute! That is why the school's resident bully and general nuisance in absentia likes to pick on him from time to time. Angeline, the Princess of all things Blonde and Saccharine-sweet, feels the responsibility upon her to right things for victims of bully-related justifiable homicide (But then so does Hayden Panettiere, but that's another story) by putting up posters focusing on peaceful negotiations and Care Bear-like Love, ehich I would instantly go for but "real" people don't for some reason. This rankles with Jamie, really rankles with Isabella BIG TIME. Worse horror is still to come: Izzy's brothers, both older and dumber, have moved on to bigger and brighter things (and bigger and brighter people, I hope) and now Izzy is actually nicer, and not so J. Law-esque. She can't even beat the hell out of the bully at school! She even has seen Dicky's parents--who are even NICERER! The mom and DAD make Bradys look like, well, Bradys are supposed to look! THAT'S IT! It's Jamie time! This book could be the last of this great series (until the next one) so please enjoy by all means necessary! And COME BACK STINKER!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE dear dumb dairy books! Basically all my life I've been reading these books first the pictures and now the actual words. I absolutely love story, it's funny and ridiculous at the same time of being ridiculous I recommend this book 4th-6th graders because it's easier to relate, but really anyone could read it , I bet grown ups will have just as fun as kids. Basically in this book Angeline, Isabella and Jamie will try to get first place in something. You should totally read this book for fun it's hilariously ridiculous I love it! I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as me! Go on READ IT!
Even though these books are geared towards kids, I really enjoy them. I just love Jim Benton's sense of humor, it is a lot like mine. I'll read anything he writes. And these books are so funny, I always laugh out loud when I read them. If you like a good laugh, lots of sarcasm, and hilarious drawings, you'll enjoy these. Or your children might, either way I recommend them :)
I hold a special place for Dear Dumb Diaries because I have to get some humor somewhere. I liked this one more than I thought I would, mainly the change-ups in Jamie's mom and Isabella. It's weird when I grow up but book characters never do.... Never much to say about Dear Dumb Diary. They are hilarious in brilliant and horrible ways. Happy Friday!
Jamie wanted the Cuisine Club to win the school Membership Drive (cash prize!) but Angeline and Isabella wanted their clubs to win too. So they all fight for the only person with Wednesday open. Then, the person has to choose between the three clubs. Dear Dumb Diary Year Two #4 is a story about friendship and greed.
I have always loved this series because of the number of books in the series you would think that it would get boring after awhile and that the author couldn't bring anything new to the table. But no, Jim Benton somehow manages to make this series, book after book, even more funny and interesting than the last.
This was surpringly funny! Loved the characters and the MC's voice but the plot could've been better. I wasn't exactly sure where the story was going and the stakes weren't high enough for me. That being said, I still really enjoyed this book. The author has an excellent sense of humour and comedic timing.
