This book is less about the process and how-tos of homeschooling (although it does briefly touch upon that in a few well written vignettes) and more about locating the homeschooling supplies. Since I was looking for the first rather than the second, it didn't quite float my boat, but in terms of meeting its given purpose, it certainly achieved that affect. I did enjoy the reviews provided with the various products, and it certainly extended my "to read" list even futher (now what will I do?). But someone wanting more homeschooling nut-and-bolt information should look in one of the books that were recommended rather than in this one.

This edition is 10 years old and desperately needs an update. It is compiled by the authors of "Practical Homeschooling" magazine and they heavily promote it within the book, along with other selected resources. This book did cover some different methodologies well, like Classical and Principle approaches. I liked having the information tables for comparison within those chapters. I learned of a few other methods like Robinson I had never heard of before. This book reviews a few curriculum companies in depth, but Vol. 2 is the more detailed reviews of curriculum, which I plan to peruse.

This is a book full of resources. With a 1981 publish date some of the resources may be out of date. I'm still planning to search for those that interest me online. There was not an extensive discussion about homeschool principles, how-to, philosophies, etc. but I found that what is included is short sweet and full of great tidbits!

This is a great book for getting started with homeschooling. It has a really good overview of the different homeschooling methods and theories together with further resources for beginning to plan for your homeschool.
