August 1979. What should have been a bank holiday weekend for a group of teenagers, celebrating their A-level success, turns out to be a weekend of hell.
Four eighteen-year-olds, on their way to a music festival, are driven to an isolated lake, somewhere in the North York moors, where they are told a folktale about a demon that haunts the site.
Afterwards, the van won’t start; and feeling stranded in the middle of nowhere, the teens have no alternative, but to camp for the night. Their friend, who brought them there, however, harbours a sinister agenda that involves the lake’s legend.
No one can hear their screams!
The novelette also includes bonus short stories:
THE FIGURE IN WHITE THE COFFIN THE LAST TRAIN A FIELD OF NIGHTMARES

Did this novella scare me? You bet it did. Real-life human killers PLUS some kind of spooky, scary, you-can’t-look-straight-at-it for fear you’ll turn to stone entity? Yes-it scared me. So of course I’ll read it again. Four college kids go camping with Ed, who is already kind of a jerk. I gather none of them really know him; and they certainly don’t suspect Ed is trolling for victims, but it’s not his fault: Somebody told him he had to and delivers excruciating pain when he doesn’t hurry up. If you enjoy the kind of implacable horror that runs you over like a Juggernaut and ensures “there is no escape,” you’ll love this one!
I reviewed an e-book copy provided by the author in return for my fair and impartial review.
Four teenagers are on their way to a music festival, at least they thought. Edward, the guy driving them, brings them to a lake and that's when weird stuff starts to happen. I really liked this book and how it was written. It was thrilling and suspenseful. The short stories at the end of the book were intriguing. I liked "The Figure in White" and "Field of Nightmares" were my favorites.
Four eighteen-year olds, are on their way to a music concert wanting to enjoy a weekend get a way. On their way there the van breaks down. They come across a lake and are told a legend about a demon that haunts the North York Moors.
They decide the best thing to do is camp there, all agree accept Hazel, she seems hesitant and something just does not feel right to her. Then one of the young boys ends up missing, as they hear spooky sounds, they begin to wonder if he walked off, or something more sinister has happened to him.
Hazel is frighten and thinks she sees a lady in black appear about the lake. The others find her a bore. She sets off to her own tent to be alone. As she hears noises in the night, she realizes she is not alone and they are all in danger.
Fast paced, nail-biting page turner. Horror lovers will delight in this short story. Also included are four more short stories: THE FIGURE IN WHITE, THE COFFIN, THE LAST TRAIN & A FIELD OF NIGHTMARES
I enjoyed this! It's the classic tale of getting lost on the way to a concert, getting trapped with no way out, and having a horrifying monster picking them off one by one. Frightening stuff! Being a Novelette however, it was short enough to read in one sitting. I think that it had the potential to be a much longer piece! Looking forward to reading more from this author.
