We’ve all read books about how to be successful. Basically, they all say the same thing. Define your goals and work towards them. Nothing could be easier or so it seems… that is until we fall flat on our faces. Then, we pick up yet another self help or how to book.

The Secret Code of Success is the first book that I’ve read that is right on the money. The problem isn’t that we don’t know what to do to be successful. We’ve all read enough books that we are quite competent at making and achieving goals. The problem is at the subconscious level. Simply put, in our subconscious minds we’ve got certain beliefs and stories to back up those notions. The central theme of which is why becoming successful would be a bad thing to do.

Trying to push through these roadblocks is an exercise in futility. Affirmations don’t work because our subconscious minds don’t believe them. Something entirely new is needed. The Secret Code of Success teaches us what to do. What’s more is you’ll notice a difference in your life after reading the forth chapter.

This book is one you have to prepare yourself for "this is the answer to your success", although it claims to be different from all the other success books. Once you can get past that, however, there are some very useful and interesting techniques described. The one which will stick with me is "Afformations", which is the idea of replacing subconcious negative statements you are telling yourself (e.g. You're not good enough, you're not clever enough, you're not experienced enough) which are holding you back with concious positive questions (e.g. Why am I good enough? Why am I clever enough? Why am I experienced enough). Once you start asking yourself these positive questions, your mind then goes ahead and "solves" the questions. Noah claims that this is what the successful people are doing without realising it, and gives this reason for their own books not being able to really make a difference. An interesting read, I would like to keep coming back to this one from time to time.

I was very disappointed with this book.

I had heard the author, Noah St. John, on a call on the net and heard him talk about afformations, which I found very exciting.

He asserted that affirmations don’t work, but that when you turn them into questions in the way he suggests, then they become very effective, and in fact dissolve your subconscious blocks. He called these questions afformations.

For instance, instead of reciting “I am rich” you need to say “Why am I so rich?”. Instead of “I am getting healthier and healthier” you should state “Why have I become healthier and healthier?” And so on.

But, unfortunately, I found this book so boring that I could hardly get through it. It had something to do with the author’s style of writing. The only thing I got out of it apart from the afformations was that he told us we can’t achieve anything by working on our own because we don’t really believe in ourselves, and it is therefore essential for us to find others who do so and will support us. There are chapters on “Loving Mirrors and Safe Havens” and “Systems of Support”.

I don’t know whether Noah St. John (cool name by the way) is correct in this assumption or not. Perhaps he is. I do much appreciate his afformations and have begun to use them.

I think his system may well work, if only you can manage to get through the book and find out what the system actually consists of.

But I can’t recommend the book. Perhaps the author’s little books on afformations are more readable. I would hope so.

I enjoy reading Noah St. John's material. His best contribution to the world of self-help and development would have to be his book entitled "The Great Little Book of Afformations". This book is packed with info. that will help you to grow your potential for appreciating life and all that is around us. Afformations, -- asking questions in the form of affirmations -- is a novel concept that I feel is just now starting to take root in people's thinking.

This book provides unique insight into why we do the things we do (or don't). It provides a way to look more carefully at your "why to's" and "why not to's". This is a book that requires careful study to really delve deep into your mind and your experiences to help you shift your mindset and help you discover and achieve your true passions. I would recommend reading this book as part of a study group as the discussions will help motivate and encourage you as you work through each of the issues discussed in the book.

Amazing step by step book to really get out of the way and let yourself succeed. Even if all you do are a few of the steps, you will see the difference in your life. The steps aren't the easiest to complete, but as you work your way through them you will see more and more change for the better.

This is one of the most profound books that I have ever read on personal development, simply because it tells you why other personal development has not worked for you. A much needed spin on how to take your foot off the brake and make REAL changes in your life.

Excellent book! Highly recommended if only for the "afformations", which are just presupposition questions, questions that presuppose you have what you want.

The idea is, instead of affirming, because some people's brains say, "hey, that's not true, liar!" when they try to affirm something they want, "afform" it or presuppose that you already have it.

So instead of saying, "I am happy" , you ask, "why am I happy? " and your brain searches for the evidence. The beautiful part is you can then go and manufacture evidence or create evidence to reverse engineer those desires easily and without any internal resistance.

So that was a key takeaway: his goal setting process.
1) determine all the things you want
2) create presupposition questions assuming its already true (afformations)
3) "give yourself to the questions", which basically means to meditate and think on the questions and the answers by writing about the afformations, speaking them aloud, and listening to them
4) take (new) actions to get what you want, manufacture evidence for having what you want

There was a ton of gold in this book.

The 7 steps to success the author recommends is:
1) use the afformations goal setting process described above
2) be a loving mirror to others and cultivate loving mirrors in your life, as well as "safe havens" , which is the business version of loving mirrors
3) develop systems for your life- people systems, activities/task/productivity systems, environment systems (inner and outer), and an introspection system
4) consciously use goal free zones so you don't work yourself to death and make sure all of your goals are yours alone
5) get out of your subconscious who you may be trying to protect from your success, who you may be trying to punish by not being successful, and who you may be trying to please by being or not being successful
6) learn to say no to your own bad desires and no to other people who would (probably unwittingly) take you off the path to achieving your goals
7) find your purpose in life and live it every day!

Highly recommended, once again. The "afformations" alone are worth the price of the book, much less all the other gold in it. The afformations goal setting method is the epitome of "getting your mind right."

1.5 stars. I give it an extra .5 because I think the very basic premise of the book is an interesting one. Instead of practicing affirmations - positive statements you tell yourself - the author suggests you make them "afformations" and phrase them as a question so that your brain will subconsciously come up with the answer. I find this at its core an interesting thought.

Everything else in the book felt icky, shystery, skeesy. It wasn't at all cohesive, bouncing all over the place, and every time he would throw out an example of someone trying afformations and just one week later: he met the woman of his dreams! or, he made as much money in one week as he usually made in a month, no wait, in a year! The author said he himself landed a job he wanted after years of struggle by simply refraining from stealing office supplies, and voila, God promptly rewarded him with good karma and a better job. Tada! I mean ... what the what?

He also mentioned "uplines" multiple times, which made me wonder if he is some kind of a guru for Amway or another MLM company? Because that would actually explain a lot.

And if all of that wasn't enough, the author concluded his book by saying everyone who had read it now needs to tell 100 (100!) of their friends about it. Yes, like a creepy chain letter.

This book left me feeling queasy, much like the book The Secret did during its heydey. Do. Not. Recommend.

Americans spend more than $11 billion a year on self-help products—everything from books to diet pills to career coaches to seminars. So why—with all this time, money, and energy being spent—are so few people living the life they really want? Why are millions of smart, talented, motivated people still going through life with one foot on the brake?

Here's the real Secret: You don't need any more how-to-succeed information to reach your full potential.

The problem isn't lack of motivation or lack of information. The real problem is that most people focus on the "how-to" aspects of success taught by traditional self-help programs, without coming to terms with what productivity expert Noah St. John calls your "head trash"—the subconscious, emotional roadblocks that prevent people from acting on their real hopes, dreams, and ambitions. In this groundbreaking book, based on work with thousands of clients around the world, Noah St. John has created a remarkable, step-by-step approach that helps you achieve long-term happiness, success, and wealth.

I am so glad I picked this up! This has totally changed the way I think about life and how to go about getting what I want out of it. I will definitely be reading this several more times because there is so much in here!

I was hesitant at first cause "secret codes" sound like a scam, but wow! I have never been more pleasantly surprised! Noah really goes into what holds people back which really resonated with me. I have been trying so hard to succeed at writing, coaching, ect. since my early teens and nothing has stuck--now I know why!

Please, please, please pick this book up and give it a try. Parts of it are uncomfortable, but it's worth it. Besides, if a self help book doesn't make you uncomfortable, it's probably not that good of a book.

That's all the gushing I have for today folks!

PS The audio for the first chapter/forward isn't very good. Don't worry, the rest of the book is read by someone else and has great sound quality.

I started this book over our summer Holiday. I have heard such a great report and success from others using Noah St John's idea and Afformations. {That is with a registered trademark}

He has a wonderful way of explaining how he, a man who trained as a Ballet dancer, ended up in a self help lecture which led his mind to wonder, how can I help others?

This is not just his story, this is a guide, with a great number of pre created Afformations for you to use.

This is not his only book, but what was great was that my Mother and I talked over his ideas and both of us loved how is mind created this way to bring forward more joy, health and happiness into your life.

It's time to play Jedi mind tricks, to make your life better, and it starts here!

This is a great book with an incredible "AHA" and then how to put it to practice in each area of your life. If you tried other methods of getting around your self-sabotage and had no success, this is a great book for you. I'm already starting to see changes in areas of my life from putting the technique to use. "You have not because you ask not" (James 4:2) becomes more significant than even imagined before.

I'm looking up his other books. It's helpful to have a journal or utilize one while going through this book.

Great book to get on track

This book makes some great points and even gives little assignments to do that will help you with not only your future wealth but happiness overall. All the money in the world still cannot buy happiness. I suggest this book to anyone stuck in a rut and needs some advice in getting out of it. Noah does not sugar coat anything and this isn’t like a life coach but a book on thinking differently in life.

If it was possible to give a negative star, this book would receive one. Words cannot express the loathing I reserve for people who not only espouse the idea that wealth is a virtue given by God, but sustain such falacies. The overly familiar speaking style and the word play, examples of which include modifying Self help to Shelf help, are cloying rather than clever.

It's a self-grooming book.
Many things are repeated again and again, overall it helps you to maintain your mental health and changes your way to look at things.
There are many chapters 4th, and 6th and some others, that I want to read again.

I appreciate his principles, and actually agree with most of them--I just struggle with the old, "but my ideas are different, they actually work," approach which he uses throughout. I just don't see much difference in, "positive thinking about being rich" and asking yourself, "Why am I so rich?"

If you've read any of Noah's work, the old "this happened to me in the shower" starts getting too repetitive with the same storylines and afformations bit. But, despite this fact, I also learned something new.
