As far as anyone could tell, Charlotte was the last Byndian witch left alive, and only one wizard knew the secrets to the magic of her nearly extinct race. That wizard was Ashcroft the Archivist, one of the hardest working wizards in existence… which was really too bad, because Charlotte was probably the laziest witch in the universe.
When a handsome, smooth-talking wizard by the name of Lachlan presents Charlotte with an opportunity to sidestep centuries of study under Ashcroft, she gladly takes it… without telling Ashcroft of course. She quickly regrets her bargain as she learns more about Lachlan, and discovers that he is a mortal enemy of Ashcroft.
Even aside from the fact that she signed a contract with a dark wizard without reading it, she regrets her decision because she has slowly come to love learning under Ashcroft’s firm guidance, even though that firm guidance is often applied via his hard hand on her bare bottom. For his part, Ashcroft has cast propriety to the winds and fallen in love with his beautiful, feisty student.
When Lachlan returns to collect what he is owed under the contract, Charlotte learns that the price she unwittingly agreed to pay for her ill-gained knowledge is far higher than she could have ever imagined, and her world is turned upside down. Will Ashcroft find a way to save Charlotte so that he can someday scandalize the Wizard’s Circle by marrying his apprentice, or will he lose her forever?

★ Nicely paced paranormal romancing ★
—>>> This story centers around Charlotte, the last of her Byndian witch line, saved as a baby and kept safe by foster witches who have been quite lax with her upbringing, who is taken in as a ward by a very austere, literally a by-the-book wizard Ashcroft and charged with her development as an apprentice to learn as much as she can of the Byndian craft from him. As you can imagine, they are like oil and water, his sense of control warring with her own. But another thing they have in common is their unspoken attraction for each other, which will come to light soon enough. Ashcroft’s loyal servant of more than seven hundred years knows exactly how his master feels for Charlotte, and his role in this story will become apparent later to the reader. Nicely paced paranormal romancing, with good twists as well as a cliffhanger which will be the continuation point for the next exciting stage in these characters’ lives.

Great Fantasy Romance
This is the story of Charlotte and Ashcroft, as well as the story of Alice and Moriarity; two couples, two loves... but how many happy endings? I loved how intricately woven this story was, with multiple well defined characters, plenty of conflict, and an abundance of real emotion. The build- up to the ending is redolent with palpable dread that something will go wrong. A fabulous book that kept me up past my bedtime!

A decent read
I did enjoy the book overall but it felt a bit longer and drawn out than it needed to be. A decent enough story and I will look forward to the next instalment.

I wanted to like this book as it had spankings and sex from two separate couples, but I really (really) hated the main female charater.

I loved this book when it was released the first time and I love it just as much now. If you like a fantasy world, wizards, witches and all the fun stuff that goes along with it, then this is the book for you. The book is very well written with a fast moving plot and offers danger, suspense, fantasy, romance, and love. The characters are strong and believable and will draw you in and you will find yourself, as I did, turning page after page to discover what happens next. I sincerely hope there will be a book two! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.

This was an incredible full length book! Korey Mae Johnson's writing style is impeccable! I was captivated from the very first sentence. Her character's are rich. The story line is multi-tiered and full of adventure and mis-adventure. This goes down as one of my absolute all time favorite novels! Book two cannot be published fast enough!

I read this book on Stormy Night Publications' website. I'm not usually into books with witches and wizards, but this one was really good. It was really well written and the characters were really well developed. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
