Kate Stewart has the weight of the world on her shoulders. As the first female President of the United States, she's got a lot on her mind. However, it's a certain Secret Service agent named Emmy Harris whom she can't get out of her head . . . or her heart. Their searing and erotic passion for one another causes quite the stir in the White House. But will their passion be enough to survive the stresses of being in the public eye? Or will they both be left burned?
This book started out as an actual fan fiction for Grey's Anatomy w/ Callie Torrez as the fbi agent and Arizona as the president. At first I did not realize it of course so I'll give you my impression of the first chapter or so. It's pretty amateurish. The conversations are drab and predictable and .. it's just not that great. One of the BIGGEST issues of this story is that it DOES come from a fanfiction. The point of a fanfiction is that the audience already knows the characters. They know perky blonde arizona. It steals someone else's characters, already established personalities and looks so that there is really no reason to describe them. That's a HUGE problem in this story. There is no real description of what these characters really look like, why they are the way they are, etc. I don't condemn a fanfiction writer from making a little money, hell i'm alll for it. But at least realize that these are not your own characters and you'll need to do a bit more work to give the reader a picture of the characters you are taking out of their element. It's lazy and disastrous.
Totally absurd in terms of believability(secret service agents and presidents would never break protocol as many times as both these women do nor would the situations that allow them to probably ever arise), I'll Cover You requires a huge amount of suspension of disbelief. Other negatives include the constant use of the words "adorable," "smirk" and "amazing." The writer might have wanted to consult a thesaurus at some point because the constant use of the same words can be a bit jarring.
Even so, the novel has four things going for it if you can look past the obvious reasons it shouldn't work: it's adorable (there's that word again!), endearing, sincere and kind of romantic.
The cover is sort of tacky (call me old-fashioned, but I have to wonder at the use of the American flag here) but if you can get past that and a few other things, this is often quite the charmer!:)
About the only good thing I found here was the warm and fuzzy of a happy ending. There wasn't a whole lot of substance to this story. The characters (on a good page) are two dimensional and the plot jumps around too much; it tries packing a lot into a few pages and next to nothing in the rest. With a vivid imagination the reader could easily "fill in the blanks " as they go but the storyline is one that's repeated over and over again in every genre of romance so there isn't a whole lot left to imagine...
An amazing romance, two women that you are going to love. The beautiful development of love between strong women, the sex scenes, hot and steamy, the plot, all that makes this book a page turner. No heavy political issues except the issue marriage equality. And this topic became very important. The story is well crafted and highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this book! Yes, it did feel like a well-written fan fiction at the beginning... but honestly, I've read many fan fiction stories that are better than many of the published books out there. Anyway, I loved this story!
