Second time reading Hamlet. I really enjoyed the Norton Critical edition. Excellent notes and essays. The focus on the views on death, the departed, and the afterlife stuck out this time. The ghost who may have been in purgatory (depending on who in the audience is interpreting. The essay on purgatory was helpful in understanding these common questions as England was still replacing the medieval Roman Catholic rites and views with the Anglican rites and views)? Obviously a tragic tale of vengeance and a great study in emotions, suffering, and death.
