poor characterization, tell not show and little world building

Too many authors of this type of book don’t bother to create all the classes and what the students are learning in them. They seem to think putting ‘Academy’ or ’School’ in the title and occasionally mentioning classes, uniforms, roommates, etc. in the text are enough to create an entire world. Ms. Ashta is definitely one of them. She describes one School Assembly and one Beginning Shifting class, then has her characters complain a lot that the werewolf teacher is boring. That’s it for actual world building, and that’s not enough to make the school real for the reader. In her Magical Creatures Academy, what matters is not schoolwork, it’s people’s social lives and being afraid of the bad guys, because that’s what most of the book is about.

The book also suffered from poor characterization. It starts off with this girl, Rina, who’s about to turn 18. We’re told she’s spent her whole life longing to go to the Magical Creatures Academy, but then we hear that she’s never bothered to ask her brother anything about it. He’s been a student there for several years and somehow she’s never asked him a single question about what it’s like? Ashta explains this by having Rina say that her brother was too busy with his friends and she didn’t want to bother him. Then her father is the author of The Compendium of Magical Creatures, the accepted authority throughout the magical world, but Rina’s never read it, and never asked her dad a single question about his work. Rina thinks it’s all too boring so she didn’t bother even trying. Okay, so now she’s a bad sister and a bad daughter!

On top of that, in the last 17 years, Rina’s managed to learn absolutely nothing about supernatural creatures or how magical society works. Even if she were going to stay simply human, her father and brother are part of the magical world, but she still sees no reason to learn anything about their lives? I’m sorry, but that’s ridiculous and pathetic—a bad choice on Ms. Ashta’s part because it makes her heroine profoundly unsympathetic.

Apparently Ms. Ashta wanted an excuse to explain things to the reader by letting us listen in while other characters explain them to Rina—-there’s lots of tell, not show in this book. It just makes Rina look stupid and/or uncaring.

The rest of the characters are almost as badly drawn, and typical of too many teen fantasy books. Not funny snark? check. Crude pseudo-teen dialect? check. Preoccupation with the hotness of other characters to the point of idiocy? check. For example, Rina’s friend Jaz drools constantly over Ky, Rina’s brother. And Rina’s no better. Not only is she infatuated with Prince Leander the elf, she’s also incapable of ignoring the Pygmy Trolls’ butts. Every single time she encounters a Pygmy Troll, we hear about their little round naked butts and her fascination with them. Why is that even a thing? And how can anyone feel sympathy for a character who is so easily distracted by them?

I began to wonder if Ms. Ashta really had a clear idea of who Rina is. It doesn’t seem like it, as some of Rina’s weak points make her later actions unbelievable. For example, at the beginning of the book, Rina is very easily frightened. She’s afraid of the school entrance, she’s terrified of the rabbit who guards the gates, she’s horrified by the Pygmy Trolls, she hides behind people when the bad guys show up . . . Rina spends so much of the book quaking in her shoes that it’s hard to believe her as a warrior in the last few chapters when she has to fight for herself.

I don’t want to think about this book any, ore, so I’ll stop there. It’s run of the mill bad teen fantasy and

Let me just say… the cover drew me in, but everything else tossed me to the curb (this is a review for both book 1 & 2)

I don’t like the MC or Leander… Especially Leander. I really expected the MC to end up falling for a different love interest so the fact she remained with him left me stumbling cluelessly.

This all to summarize, the book didn’t really work for me. But that’s not to say others won’t like it. Just that I didn’t.

Awful

Lots of people adore this author so I thought I'd give a series a shot. If you enjoy being gut punched and left that way, this is the book for you. I don't.

3 stars is as low as I go unless I'm super annoyed or offended. Indie author? I usually just don't review if I can't leave a 4 or 5 star review. But this book has just about every burned out trope that I've come to really abhor.

...The clueless, dithering FMC that monologues self doubt long enough to invite defeat whenever possible.
...Feckless teachers and experts that don't teach functional abilities.
...Secure compounds that are anything but secure and totally devoid of active surveillance.
...Protectors and "professional" security teams that are total FAILS. (This is one of the absolute worst tropes that has become a staple in way too many genres.)

The FMC wasn't even taught enough to know that breaking a circle, scooting outside of it, or kicking a guy enough to break his contact would have interrupted the casting? And those who were entrusted with her care just say too bad, so sad, hope you don't get kicked out of school and abandoned? And there's no relationship or sentience to her lion? It's just an energy commodity? YUCK!

Now, I am still not sure if this is written before or after in the timeline after the Sirangle series.
This was a little better than book one. But I cringe at some things they say. why I don't know...guess they sound like a 13 year old, instead of 18, difference being by 18 you should of leant to describe people with less judgement...I don't know, just cringe at some things.

The story itself gets more intense in this book. I was disappointed the book starts after their summer break. Feel like more character and world linking build could if been done if we got the away story. Anyway, this book focuses back on the academy and still low burn, slow burn, PG spice, okay action scenes, loss, turmoil, and teen mean girls, vamps.

The introduction of Sadie is a positive for me, her character for some reason is stronger than the our FMCs side friends...okay I've forgotten the FMCs name...and the love interest I think is called lo...okay I forgot his too.

Enough rambling. To sum up, it's an easy YA read, not fantastic or strong in character, but enough premises for an easy, simple background read.

But I'm hoping book 3 will be better as book 2 was better than book 1.

I raced through this book almost as much as the first. Still loving the character's although rina seems a little niave. I do like her two friends although they are very different. And her brother he seems like the dream guy, and the dream big brother.

The story line moved well. I liked the action and the descriptions of shifting are really well done. Her relationships with the prince is interesting, seems like he is teasing her though, stringing her along for some reason. Only time will tell though.

The ending, was not to my liking, mainly because I like everything ends well for the good guys ending, not realistic at all, so I really cannot fault authors who let put in some challenges for their characters and show readers that it is possible to overcome obstacles.

Overall I really enjoyed this book.

Why haven't I read book 3 yet? It's not out. :(

This was a really good book! I was happy to read about Rina again, and we met some new characters. Sadie is my favorite character after Rina now! I thought Jas and Wren were pushed to the side a bit in this book. Although it looks like something might be paying off for Jas with Ky now! Speaking of romance, Leander is a dream, and I completely ship him with Rina. I wish we could have read about their summer break, but I guess not as these do follow everyone's semesters at the academy. I feel awful for Rina; she goes through a real tragedy in this one, and Overall, this was a pretty exciting book, with lots of action, magic, and shifters! 4 stars. I will be reading book 3.

I'm really conflicted

So after reading the first book I came away not sure. Don't get me wrong absolutely love the story but the leading lady really frustrates me she's winey, immature and comes across as weak. However I did fall in love with everyone else and after finishing was actually looking forward to this book and even though she's still weak and scared at the beginning of the book after a horrible thing she goes through that actually brought a tear to my eyes she seems to be hopefully becoming stronger emotionally and physically. I would recommend this series because the storyline is brilliant I love the academy and the other characters and I'll definitely be reading the next book and hope the romance picks up. If you like steam and passion in your books you'll be a little disappointed as it's a really slow burn but fingers crossed it picks up in the next book xxx

Great characters

Another enjoyable read by this author. The story and characters are great. Love the trolls and their craziness and a host of other characters. Sometimes I wished Rina was stronger. Glad the romance further developed as well. Looking forward to the next book in the series and would recommend it. Hopefully we will see some magic in the next one....I would also be interested in reading about her break with the prince.

Twists and turns

This book contains full-on actions from the first few pages til the end. It’s got a twist that I would never have anticipated; a little sad, but also interesting.

I’m so looking forward to book 3 and hopefully the end of Rage and Fury. I wish it would be released sooner than August though :(

So, I gave the first book 4 stars. In part this was because it had the excitement of a new series with new ideas and an author with the talent and imagination of Lucia Ashta always makes me quite desperate to know how the story will play out. I go in prepared to and wanting to love each book.
The 1-star deduction was because I had some frustration with how slowly I felt the book progressed, as well as the fact that Rina is not my favorite MC – which is irksome considering that she's supposed to be the heroine of her own story.
So, the bulk of my stars were thanks to the other characters in the book who were entirely too fantastic for words; the incredible world building and the plot that tends to twist and tease.
Faced with book 2, I am sad to say that I'm still facing the same frustrations - Rina has shown no growth in her magical or personal development and zero commitment to really learning anything (knowledge being power). I struggle to relate to her and I find myself more interested in other characters in the book.
There’s no self-awareness, no kick-assery in any form - she's still hiding behind people and eating lunch based on the path of least resistance. I unfortunately sometimes seem to enjoy her thoughts and her mental dialogue more than I enjoy her actual speech and actions. And I am always the person who needs to enjoy the MC…
I found, even though I finished it, that the book felt incredibly slow and I got quite exhausted with my need for more than I was getting. I could deal with this in the first instalment of the series but I struggled with it so much more in this second one.
The saving grace for me was the introduction of additional secondary characters who I become quite interested and invested in. And I found that one such character had all the depth and personality that I really wanted to see in Rina. I was totally invested in and rooting for the other characters – And it wasn’t even just the fairies this time!
There was also a huge plot twist and a growing mystery floating on the periphery and so even though Lion Shifter frustrated me in large parts, and I was tempted to skip some parts due to said frustration, I am still invested enough to want to know what happens next and so I am truly hoping for great things in the third installment.

Lion Shifter is the second novel in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy and is another fun and enchanting chapter of Rina’s journey.

Rina Nelle Mont is finally realising her dream of being a part of the paranormal world. As a student at the Magical Creatures Academy, Rina is training to embrace her shifter powers and learning all about the magical world of vampires, shifters, fae, trolls and other creatures that call the Academy home. She’s also trying her hardest to stay away from Leander Version, a fae prince who is sexy as hell but very much off limits. Too bad Leander seems as drawn to her as she is to him. Staying away from Leander isn’t Rina’s only problem; two shifter brothers have big plans for Rina’s powers and they’ll stop at nothing to get them, even if it means invading the school to do so.

Quick and easy reading, Lion Shifter continues to follow protagonist Rina as she embarks on her second year at the Magical Creatures Academy. Author Lucia Ashta continues to see Rina fight to find her place in the supernatural world she lives in as dangerous forces continue to hunt her. For the most part, I do really enjoy this series; it’s easy to read and the novels are each quick with enough magical aspects, characterisation and romance to entertain me.

I’m still not completely sold on Rina however. I find her too whiney for my tastes and weak-willed, although I can see that the author is trying to build Rina up and give her fire. Being told a person is exceptional and full of potential is one thing and seeing it is another. I just don’t think it translates well to paper in this instance. That being said, I am hopeful she’ll continue to grow and will continue to overlook the issues I have with her.

I enjoy the romance between Leander and Rina in this series and feel it is building well. There’s a bit of back and forth in this novel as Leander especially struggles with the weight of his responsibilities against his growing feelings for Rina. I do feel that they’re in a good place by the end of Lion Shifter and fairly secure in their relationship.

Sometimes I feel that the overall storyline of this series is not quite up to par. Ashta spends a lot of time focusing on how great Rina is and that the Academy is under threat from a rebel faction of shifters and paranormal creatures but so far we haven’t had a lot of movement other than attacks on the school. I’m just waiting for that something more to really propel the storyline forward. Hopefully we’ll see that in the next novel.

Good fight scenes and plot development, but could have been better overall.
Why Lion Shifter should be called Return of the Troll Butts:
Nope. Too much butts.
Another thing about this book that was irritating was how it wasn't fully fleshed out. In the end of book one, there's Rina follows Leo into Fairyland. At the start of book two, they step out of Fairyland into the school via portal. There's barely anything about their stay. They had been in the palace, so describe it! How did it look? What were the surroundings? How did Rina feel about going to Leo's place? Talk about the king! Talk about Fae customs! The book would have been more detailed.
Furthermore, the academics of the school were not talked about much, despite it being the main point of attending Magical Creatures Academy. No, mentioning troll butts were more important. Apparently, twoers only had three classes Monday to Friday. These are: Defensive Creature Magic (fighting with other shifters), Basic Shifting, and Beginning Creature History. It sounds so...unrealistic. Even if they don't have to study English and Math and Science, surely they must have PE, right? It would keep their form up and improve their performance in Defensive Creature Magic. Before you ask why they would need PE when they already have Defensive Creature Magic, PE could train them with teamwork and other types of sports too, not just shifting and fighting. Shouldn't they have classes to study The Compendium too? And subjects to study other shifters beyond themselves and their own classmates?

Okay, now to the good stuff about Lion Shifter.
To be honest, this book is better than the last one -- at least the title makes more sense. There are also more fight scenes , and the romance between Rina and Leo progresses. We have new characters like Sadie and Wendi and Damon.
Maybe I will read the third book, maybe I won't. We'll see.

Rating: 3/5

I'm not happy🙄

I did enjoyed the first book, I loved the loll's and sarcasm, especially loved laughing at Rina's nervous behaviour, its what made the book for me, though if I'm being honest I really didn't get a lot more from the second in the series. This book was slow moving and not very fluid, big chunks of time were jumped simply because there was nothing interesting was actually going on inbetween the "I like my brothers BFF and I'm scared for my life" nonsense. Never mind the fact that the enimies and where they were coming from could be seen from a mile away.

I'd previously read the first Sirangle book and I've noticed in both stories the plot/characters development are slow and weak in comparison to other books of a similar-"I'm a Hybrid and people want to use me"-genre. I'm not sure if it's because it's set specifically to a younger target market? But it's not mentally challenging.
I actually found myself wanting to strangle Rina more than once. I was especially frustrated with how she held herself and delt with situations, she had no Fire and was always hiding behind the 'Bigger Badder' boys-#Pathetic. In my opinion she lacks the real Strength to be the leading role of the story. She let's people walk all over her and couldn't find her back bone if it hit her over the head.

SPOILERS-kinda-

She literally just allowed her lion to be taken from her? And what was up with the brain spasm that lasted almost Two Chapters? She kept repeating she was a dual mage-shifter but didn't think to use that magic to save herself and her brother? Even after she obviously saw she'd hurt Rage with the 'mind attack' thing-like REALLY!? And what happened to disrupting the magics flow with, I don't know, Your Magic?? Let me not get started on the procrastination that eventually led to her losing her other form, I ended up scanning the pages as it was just repitative inner dialogue repeating things we already knew in a time where she really could've been doing something useful like saving her animal form! But nooo she waited till "Times Up" to start acting💀 What nonsense. Tbh I'm not reading another book from this series or the Sirangle one, they both frustrated me. Good enough for a quick read if you're bored but I wouldn't expect fireworks.

‘Lion Shifter’ is book two in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy.

After spending the Summer break at the Golden Forest (Fae’s World) Rina is ready to start her second semester at the Menagerie. The threat of Rage and Fury still out for Rina and her brother Ky, being a normal student isn’t going to be easy. Security is amped up and an extra class is made to help train the students for the possible upcoming war. She needs to work harder on her shifting abilities, and being distracted by a Fae Prince is something she can’t afford to be doing.

I still love this world and all the mystical creatures and beings in this series. But I still believe there is something that is missing. I’m having mixed feelings and emotions about it, in one half I want to continue reading to see what is going to have with Rina but also what’s going to happen between Rina and Leander. But then the other half I feel as this has come to an end and it’s time to say goodbye as I’m having a trouble connecting with the characters.

I know it’s an academy and Rina is only recently turned 18, but I get the vibe that’s she seems more like 15 instead. One minute she strong, independent, and ready to kick butt, then next she’s hiding, frightened and timid.
Ja’s character at first was cool she was what was need to help bring both Rina and Wren out of their shells of the uncertainty of the world of MCA. But now I find her irritating, annoying and at times a bit of a b*tch.
Wren, Dave, Boone and Adalia are still such wonderful and great characters, they are the perfect people to have on your side. Each with their own quirks and uniqueness. The two new additions Sadie and Damon are excellent with their own spunk.
Leander, you sweet naive Prince. You are gorgeous, sexy as sin, and very very distracting. Full of mystery and surprises.

Now don’t think I did not like this book cause on the contrary I did enjoy it. I was intrigued and curious as to how things were going to turn out. It’s just I’ve read other books by this author and I know how fantastic you writing and story’s are, I just think this may have missed its mark a little. But don’t fret I’m going to give book three ‘Mage Shifter’ a try. Hopefully it can help me make up my mind whether to continue on the rest of the series.

I liked this book a lot better than i liked the first one in this series. It was a little more engaging in the terms of excitement than the first book was. I will however say that I was a little pissed off when i first started reading this, because I was expecting from the end of this first book where Rina and KY went off to spend the summer with the Prince, that we were going to get to experience that world. That we would at least get a small glimpse into the events that took place over summer break. But we essentially just come back to school in the second book, and the only tidbit we get about what happened in the Elfin realm is that nothing happened...Rina and Leander got to spend no time together. That's it. All that happened in the Elfin realm.

This book Focuses on Rina trying to master her new ability to shift into her Mountain Lion more efficiently. After the attacks on the school, she is assigned some bodyguards, and her brother and his friends Boone, and Leander take to teaching and training her after her normal lessons, how to shift, and how to fight to protect herself.

There is your typical yearning after the hot prince by Rina. Should I shouldn't I pursue him. No I shouldn't he's my brothers best friend. Oh but he's so hot I have to have him. These two characters to me are just blah. There is absolutely nothing there but what seems like physical attraction. They have very awkward and stilted interactions together. It all just seems weird and forced to me.

But anyway, it eventually comes to the end of the book where the brothers get a hold of Rina and her brother KY with the purpose to steal their powers for the one brother who was essentially mutilated when he willingly gave his brother his powers. So now he needs KY's or Rinas powers to restore himself to a powerful mountain lion shifter again. The siblings are kidnapped and shit hits the fan again. I won't spoil the ending. but i must say this book was more engaging towards the end than the first book was. I enjoyed this book a a lot more than the previous book in the series.

The Details:
- Upper YA/NA
- 2nd in a series
- Fantasy/Urban Fantasy Academy genre
- Bring Tissues!

I read this book in a single day and it had me jonesing (yes, it's a word, it means insatiably desperate, and on the verge of breakdown if you don't get it immediately - think Lorelei Gilmore when she needs coffee!), on the edge of my seat, hungry, mouth drooling, (I know, not a pretty picture, but that's how I felt), absolutely heart-hurting desperate for the next book and the conclusion of Rina's story.
From the first page to the last, I was cheering Rina on and delighting as the character grew from strength to strength and by the end of the book, I felt as though I was going to have a heart attack if I didn't get the next book asap!
Luckily, I didn't have too long to wait.
In this book, readers will see Rina and her crush, Leander grow closer together, see both friendships and romances grow stronger.
I don't want to spoil anything for future readers so I'm not going to say too much about the events of the book, however, I will say that there were a number of ugly tears shed in the reading of this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading this book.

I was a little disappointed that the sequel didn't start off as strong as the first book did. I was hoping it would start with a glimpse into the "summer break" since Rina would get some time with Leo, but no. It just says she hardly saw him. Yes, it sets up a sort of blockade between them, and stops the forward progress in their relationship as a part of story development but it was a bit of a letdown as a reader. As with book 1, the story is still a little choppy in that it focuses on short glimpses into the students' daily lives as the days progress. It could use more fluidity and connection between scenes.

I loved the relationship development between Rina and Leo even though it goes through its ups and downs (as in any teenage relationship). The addition of enforcers as protection for Rina and her brother is a nice tough. I absolutely loved Sadie. The fact that she's a witch instead of a shifter is refreshing since it shows the other part of the magical world outside the Creatures Academy. Especially since Rina has shown she has the potential to exhibit mage qualities as well. It gives a sense of foreshadowing which sets up for book three quite well. The challenges the students face with the threat to Rina and her brother Ky added a sense of urgency to the story. There were predictable parts, but in a good way. The ending is just so sad which is surprising to come from the second story in I'm presuming a trilogy.

Shifter Rina Is Put In So Much Peril!!💔😭🐆✨💥
Burgeoning Romance Is Crushed.😢💘💔👎
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Lion Shifter (Magical Creatures Academy #2)

Rina & co return for more education in Creature Arts. Their start is immediately rocky when they're greeted by Voice members who are after her & Ky still.😡 Enforcers arrive & take the members into custody.🙏 Once inside the mountain they're told that enforced will be staying tell to help protect them all better & that Rina & Ky will have personal ones!😳

Leander makes moves to show his interest in Rina, she's over the moon as she's crushing hard on him still. Her brother doesn't seem to happy about it. Then after an amazing date Leander admits that his Dad, the Elf King, will never let them be together because she's not a Fae let alone an Elf, he doesn't want to mess her around!💔 As hurt as she is she tries to move on.😔 She trains hard with her mountain lion & learning to fight with her brother, they're determined they'll be prepared if Dave & Fury come for them again. Will they be successful??🙏

This book has a better pace than the first one. I'd really like Rina to stop cowering from everything & everyone though. She needs to dig deep & find her strength of character so she's not so wimpy!!🙈

A good follow up to the first book

This was a decent follow up for the first book in the series. I like all the characters and the introduction of Sadie was great. There are only two real issues I have that stopped me from giving it 5 stars.

The first is that I really want Rena to be a bit of a stronger character. I know this is aimed at a teenage audience and she is probably very relatable to them but I would like to see her as a warrior in training rather then the victim she comes accross as.

The second issue I have is that the book moves at odd paces. You get large bits where 30% of the book is equivalent to 2 days, then the book seems to fast forward with little indication of what is going on untill the next big scene. It just doesn't flow as nicely as I feel it could and doesn't allow for much character development.

Other then those two issues, both books are very good and though I may have a little issue with those things others may prefer those choices the author made. The book isn't a long or difficult read, neither is the first one, and I would recomend it as a quick summer read.

I can’t decide if this was worse than book 1? Yet I couldn’t put it down. Easy read and yet so frustrating.
Rina is a terrible main character, I cannot understand the appeal of her as she’s boring and has no substance. She keeps saying how much she wanted to be at the academy but does nothing to actually learn about magic or her own abilities. Her lack of learning about her own abilities means when she finds herself in trouble she does nothing. She has an inner monologue of self doubt until it’s too late and looses her lion. 2 books down and yet to see her “loads of magical” abilities.
The other characters kept me going. I can’t help but like them. Although as much as I like Leander I do not understand his attraction to Rina. Actually their attraction at the beginning of book felt so awkward.
The storyline has little snippets of information that kept me intrigued to continue reading to find out more, yet still waiting on that more.

The kicker; there is a part of me that wants to read book 3 just to find out what happens. But I don’t think I can do another book of clueless Rina and her lack of interest in wanting to learn about her magic and save herself.

This book was better than the first in my opinion. Though it does have a fair amount of disappointing features to it and overall it was just an okay book.

The world is very much telling not shown, so there are a ton of monologues and explaining that is done rather than being able to witness and experience it through reading about it. The characters had a bit more development in this book so I like them just a bit more. But for the main character it really just feels like she's watching everything that is happening rather than really experiencing it, she sorta just sits there being like "wow my brother is getting pummeled!" or "OMG look at all the stuff that is happening around me while I sit here and watch!" Honestly, the brother would have been a better main character just because he is actually heavily involved in the plot. Yes, the main character is hunted but it really just creates a bit damsel in distress type of situation, she's just a sitting duck waiting for others to do the fighting and solving.

It was really just an okay book as I said before, nothing too special and a few things bothered me.

Disgruntled

Hmm. Not happy at all. Anyone else think Wendis entance into the story seem off? I was on to her immediately and surprised the ever tough enforcers didn't double or triple check her story. I liked that Leo finally asked her out. A little disappointed their whole "thing" is moving so slow though. Seriously let's get this moving. I'm wondering if she is some kind of princess since the vampires called her that, she never knew her mom, both her and Ky are or were cougar and she's a dual mage. I'm thinking there's more to it.
I'm so flipping mad Rinas cougar was stolen! I'm even more mad at Rina for brain farting at that moment when she could have dialed in and fought with her mage magic. Nope. She blips out like always. She kind of deserves it but she better get her cougar back! I'm going to have to skim through the rest of this series to get closure. I hate it when there isn't a happy ending and I don't like wasting my time on books only to be let down when I finish it. Yeah.... I gotta know.

I was far more entertained by this second instalment in the series and liked Rina a lot more. She wasn’t anywhere near as annoying as in the previous book and I only rolled my eyes twice at some of her less than stellar moments. The plot also picked up and came with a few unexpected twists that I appreciated because they’re the kind of thing that’s less commonly done in YA, so made ging’s more interesting.

Unfortunately, the romance is a total dud for me. The first book set up the love interest and there’s been no deviation from that set up. The author hasn’t played around with tropes either, so it’s very flat and teenage crush material, but not properly believable love interest. I hope things pick up.

Once again, this novel can’t seem to decide if it’s YA or NA. While there’s no on-page spice, some of the banter and asides are a little more explicit than would be appropriate for YA.

GET TO STEPPING!!!
Hominy, hominy, hominy! Talk about down and out. All the twists and turns, ins and outs, along with a few glitches and grinds make for an outstanding experience. Lucia really brought the magic and then some in this tough as iron 100% true to life form fascinating page turning delight while frozen on a razors edge. Lucia writes with such passion that weaves through every page thoroughly. All the drama, determination and suspense keeps you focused on the pages from start to finish. The characters are authentic, believable and so realistic with such depth and individuality its easy to relate. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive there's no problem picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Amazing job Lucia, thanks for sharing this little sweety with us.
